  1. Also I won't pay $.84/Round anymore for 308 or 7.62 ammo. The fair market value now a days seem to be $.79 a round. If you could get a direct deal with a factory, even better:.... www.SenecaArmory.com - Last I paid $.69/Round for 1,000 rounds for my PTR in a promotion expiring in a week, www.AmmoSeek.com - Last I paid for a LC ammo was $.76/Round for a box of 250 www.CheaperThanDiret.com - Only bought 9mm from them, paid $.29/Round for 115gr RN
  2. What I've experienced is reloading 308/7.62 Nato works better for some rifles but not for PTRs/G3s etc. It depends if the gas is involved or if its a pure mechanical play like in G3s. Experts here would agree with me that you won't want to reload your brass if you have shot from a PTR. PTR is best 308 platform in my opinion though.
  3. Did you guys try Seneca Armory 7.62x51mm 147 grain ammo. When I buy from them, its shipped across the country and I pay a few cents above $35 for a box of 500 which weighs about 30 pounds. This widener guy on the other hand must be making money on his shipments. I've heard a lots of cheap ammo seller make their extra $10-$15 on shipment.
  4. I agree bro. I found LC brass to be very good. So is Seneca Armory brass. Both are thick, concentric, and 7.62x51 like. I don;t reload yet but am learning the tricks of the trade. I could not find primers for a long time but some expensive stuff is finally showing up in the gun shows.
  5. Not really. SenecaArmory are the best for plinking ammo, real accurate and stuff. For my deer hunt I use my .308 rifle with any 168 grain ammo. Difference is for plinking, range days, honing my marksmanship, I use cheap ammo from SenecaArmory ($.75 - $.85 range) which is sort of affordable. I don't smoke much, I don't drink so this is my only indulgence where my wife lets me spend my money. Ha. For my deer/elk hunting, I buy 2 or 3 boxes max. for $1.50 per and shoot some at the range to get a right feel. Then I go and get some most organic meat home cut by myself and stored in my deep freezer in the basement. Besides my love for 308, one of the things I'm learning from you guys here is bits and pieces of reloading so I could reload my expensive stuff. I still don't mind shooting cheap Berdan primed rounds but for $1.50 stuff, I wanna bring cases home and reload.
  6. Thanks for suggestions. Like I said, I email SenecaArmory guys on sales@senecaarmory,com and negotiate with them. They are a small opeartion I guess so I get to haggle a bit. Cheapest I've gone with them is $.76 a round for box of 500. All my 7.62 friends at range buy from them now and we all paid less than $.85 a round. Try them. So far they are the only reliable ammo supplier for my little new fascnation for my PTR and LeEnfiled both 308s. People play golf and make their wives mad. I shoot on the range and do the same :)
  7. Hi, I'm new to .308 rifles. I fell in love with 308s after shooting M14 on a range and immidiately sold my AR15 for a PTR in the following month. Since then have bought couple other .308 chambered rifles. Ammo wise: Seneca Armory (www.senecaarmory.com) - email them directly. My average with them has been $.82/Round so far. Great service. Buy as much as you can. Cheapest I got with them was $.75 per round. AmmoSeek (www.ammoseek.com) - pick up 7.62x51mm ammo whenever available at decent prices. Still can't buy in large quanitites like on Seneca Armory MidWayUSa (www.midwayusa.com) - have bought some. Always out of stock. So I don't try them much anymore.
  8. Since I've switched to 308, I've been buying from Seneca Armory. The sell direct so I can negotiate my prices. They would give me a steal deal on a box of 500. My average with them is $.82 a round so far. You just need to email them to get a good price. I mostly prefer to buy 7.62x51mm (not .308s) and they have been so far proven to be the best and the cheapest for me. A couple of range friends who also shoot G3/H&Ks told me their ammo is sort of 'built for 7.62x51s'.
  9. I was getting sick of my AR15 and its expensive ammo. Shooting was no fun any more. Both for the price and the airgun feel of my gun. So one day I shot a few rounds of rented M14 on a 500 yrd range. It was an instant love for 7.62s. I sold my AR15 and bought a PTR, the G3 clone. Since then I've been buying high quality but cheaper 7.62 ammo from Seneca Armory, (they sell direct, you have to email them) and MidWayUSa and living the life of bliss on my range of choice. I don't own many guns, but since my PTR, I've recently bought a LeEnfield M4 chambered 308.
  10. 500 Box of Seneca Armory 7.62x51mm 147g ammo at $.71/Round. Found it really suiting my PTR. They told me their Ammo is popular among G3, PTR, H&K owners. Two new magazines of 20 rounds. Am looking for a decent scope now. I'm new to 7.62x51mm chambered rifles, if you have any suggestions, please do let me know. So far I;m enjoying my new PTR and am bragging about it a lot :)
  11. Loving my new 91SC

  12. Ok, I'm new to this forum. I recently sold my Ruger SR 5.56 to a gun shop. Was getting tired of 5.56 ammo shortages. Besides if I were paying $1 for a .223 round, why not shoot more elegant 7.62 Nato. So I recently bought PTR91SC and saved a couple of $s from my Ruger sales. So far I've shot: 1. Seneca Armory 147g ammo which I got in a gun show for $.83/round for a box of 500. They sell direct so I keep buying from them by emailing them. 2. I've also shot some PMC 147g bought over AmmoSeek. Was ok ammo but I felt it was more of .308 then the 7.62 Ammo for PMC. 3. I got 5 boxes of 20 rounds CBC brand too. Fun ammo but would stick to my other too purchases. I'll see if I could upload one of my targets photos on the forum. Any suggestions from senior members (avid 7.62 shooters) on the cheap but quality ammo? Any thoughts, suggestions welcome.
  13. I've a newfound love for 308s. This caliber has a class, for me 308 is F350 versus the .223 being F150.. you know what I mean :) I thought to find the community to share my views, but most of all, to learn from your years of knowledge in 308s.
