  1. To be clear, the very round in that picture was rechambered and fired, and it fired fine. The all rounds fired seemed to have good primer strikes.
  2. I just fired my dpms platform ar308 today that was built by some bozo. I guess im the bozo for buying it. Anyways, I just replaced the entire buffer assembly, and I haven't been able to tighten the castle nut all the way. But out of 20 rounds of walmart zq1 Turkish ammo, 2 hailed to fire due to light primer strikes. Do I need a heavier hammer spring, or is the headspace off? Any advice is appreciated!
  3. Well I forgot to order a wrench for that buffer tube castle nut, so I tried to tighten it with a wood dowl and a hammer... :/ Ill give a range report tomorrow. I dont have the for end I want yet, or front sight, so i just mounted a cheesy truglo red dot for a one day deal.
  4. Alright here we go. It looks like the buffer tube needs one more turn, but I want to make sure before I tighten anything down. You can see here that the damage done by the original owner was from the detent scraping the tube. Its a crappy picture, but it looks like the original spring was slightly longer. The original buffer, to me, felt slightly lighter (although it was not measured, and my wife said the opposite) The original builder did not have the washer between the lower receiver and the castle nut installed. The new buffer has the moving weights in it, whereas the old one didn't. The new detent spring is slightly shorter than the one used by the original builder. I used shotgun choke lube on the threads, and nothing has been tightened yet. Now im just waiting to hear from yall about what I need to fix! Thanks!
  5. It seems to me that a muzzle brake doesn't require the amount a precision of a barrel, bcg, etc etc, so I figured this might be alright. Now im just dying with anticipation!
  6. I know you get what you pay for, but it is my hopes that a compensator is straightforward enough, and tolerances are laxed enough for this to be a good deal. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00EQITMSI/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1389934827&sr=8-3&pi=SX200_QL40 I will let yall know how it effects things when i get it. I heard it referenced to as the titan with a different finish, ill have to look into it. But it is about the third of the price of other similar compensation, so I hope it performs alot better than 1/3rd as well. Also, I am going to try my absolute best to find out if it is indeed made in the USA, because that is important to me. If it says "made in the USA" and is sold by some global retailer only on Amazon... you would be crazy not to be wary. Anyways, like I said, ill let yall know!
  7. I do that ALL the time... even when i promise before and after results, I always forget lol
  8. Did you weigh the barrel? I am surprised its 3.9lbs... thats seems heavier than what I would expect. In front of the gas block is .750 I believe, and its spiral fluted (for like 6", probably saving my 3 oz lol)
  9. That barrel is half the weight of my barrel... I haven't seen another 16" rifle length barrel. I guess because Im still new to this. That is very very cool.
  10. haha... yeah... she just laughed at me... its only been 4 months and she knows :/
  11. I should be getting my parts in tomorrow, and shooting saturday. Once I have installed the buffer assembly, I will post pictures. Since I will be testing the rifle for the first time, I was thinking to load one round into the magazine the first time to make sure the bolt locks back, to see how it is gassed. Then hand load 4 more rounds without magazine, cleaning the bore after each shot, and checking the buffer tube for damage. Then 5 rounds at a time, and doing the same. Is this about the procedure that is recommended? Seems like common sense to me, am I missing anything?
  12. haha good point! And my birthday is pretty far away as well... but you know what is coming up!? Valentines day! Ill just tell her how romantic it would be... And Ill promise not to instal it till the day after ;-)
  13. That second amendment one is pretty cool... Thats a good stocking stuffer item to put on the list for the wifey :-)
  14. Hey, what general part of ky are you from? I am from down in south central ky.

  15. thats what I was figuring. If I were to do a 3 gun I would expect some stringing, but for a normal day at the range or hunting I figured I wouldn't have any issues. That is, if you local gunsmith does a good job lol
  16. I might consider that after everything is working properly. I have to weight my options between what it will cost for me to get this rifle to where I want it, and what it would cost to get another rifle to where I want it lol But I wont sell it unless everything is working perfectly... I don't know why I seem to attract other peoples problems, fix them, and sell them at no profit, but there it is lol
  17. Hi, I have a black rain ordnance 18" barrel, and I couldn't get any information on it. I got ahold of b.r.o., and they informed me that the barrel weights 3.9lbs! (I knew it was a little heavier than I thought it should have been!) I believe the section of barrel behind the gas block is over an inch in diameter, so I talked to my local gunsmith about the possibility of turning the barrel down to maybe .8" I have heard alot of people talking about doing this, one person with a barrel lighter than mine from the factory took 13oz off his barrel. But I was looking for oppinions on the effect on the accuracy and longevity of a barrel if you have this done. Thanks in advance for any input!
  18. that is exactly the firearm I was looking at. Its a great deal I think! But I ended up deciding it would be more prudent to buy used... if you know what I mean. LOL I would sure like to see a range report! Also, if you decide you don't like your muzzle brake, let me know ;-)
  19. You can see here where I broke it, and repaired it. I have deemed it %100 functional, but i didn't want it anyways. I got an Moe. The stock also functions correctly without it, and doesn't look bad. It was repaired with jb weld lol. No secrets here.
  20. Contact Dotson firearms (Facebook). He is an ffl who's hobby is ordering people guns at cost + $25 . He quoted me 1400 for the 3g1, and there were a few in stock. That was last week.
  21. Haha, once I get her running, that is exactly what I am going to do! Im still waiting on an entire buffer assembly. Im sure I will feel alot better about it once im behind the trigger :-) Some day I would like to swap the upper. I am talking more distant future... but I just wanted to see if anybody had the lightweight upper and had pictures, and a comparo between it and the normal upper.
  22. I actually have incredible buyers remorse... probably the worst I have ever had. Between this and the windham weaponry... im pretty darn bummed.
  23. http://www.dpmsinc.com/Upper-Receiver_c_398.html This is their selection if upper receivers, and right next to each other, you will see the a3 upper, and the a3 light weight upper. Normal is $210, light is $270
  24. The 3g1 comes with their right weight upper.
  25. Sure, ill get it up in the morning, but they have the two on their website. They advertise their normal upper at 1.5lbs, and the light weight at 1lbs. I think there is a $60 difference
