It was July 25th, 2017 and since we got it back, we have put at least 1000 rounds thru it. Go ahead and read the thread. It does have some helpful info on ejection.

My hunting partner had the exact same problem, 3 years ago, with a POF. We sent it back to them for repair as this was totally screwing up our weekends of shooting. It took a while to get it back. About 2 months, but whatever they did fixed the problem. Facts - It didn't matter what grain or type of ammo we put through it. I run all of my AR's wet and that didn't matter either. They didn't actually tell me what they did, but it started out with shell casings just dribbling out of the ejection port. Now, they eject like clockwork and about four feet, going slightly forward from perpendicular. It would be my recommendation, to send something that looks that new back to them for assessment. Messing around with it, without grinding and polishing, was just frustrating. Especially on a new rifle. About 200 rounds after purchase. Edge might remember the post I had from a couple of years ago (3). I would ask for a detailed report of the repairs though, Coy. I sent mine back through the shop I bought it from and while they did their part, they are no longer in business. My opinion, wet will not cure your problem.

The conservation club I belong to has 50, 100 and 200. There is a 600 yard range 30 miles from me, but the one I love most is the 600 yard range in the U.P of Michigan. We've been going there for 5 years now and it is a blast. They have every kind of range distance and various targets imaginable. A wonderful 8 to 10 hours of banging steel or paper. Do you guys know how far that 600 yard walk is back and forth on a sand trail, getting attacked by black flies and whatever else, along the way? I take a crap load of targets down there, so the action doesn't have to stop. I'll let other shooters have some fun at my expense. Great times every year!

Under what thread, heading or forum, do I look for rifle maintenance and shop talk? Repairs and such. Typing in "Repairs" "Maintenance" "Service" in the search box brings no useful results. And thanks Edge, for the info.

Had ordered a complete BCG replacement and a maintenance kit of springs for the trigger and lower and now have them. I did not order a new buffer tube spring. Was that a mistake on my part? I sure don't want to have to turn my rifle into a baseball bat when I want it most. Am I looking for problems that are not even there yet, after 1,000 rounds? What say you maintenance gurus? By the way, why is DPMS only offering these types of parts for G II rifles and not my LR308 any longer? Brownells sent them in DPMS packaging.

Well, I hope the factory can resolve this. All of the ones that were bent, are the same brand. PMC 147. That is why I gave credibility to the ammo issue. BUT, all of the weights we threw got stuck. The other cartridges did manage to make it into the chamber, without getting turned sideways and getting destroyed. Still, the bolt lodged against the spent case in the port and didn't lock on to the new cartridge yet. Those cartridges slid in and out of the chamber and rolling them on the bench, didn't show any distortion, so we reloaded the magazine and fired those rounds. It was so annoying to have this happening so often. In 6 hours of shooting, 6 got bent like this and another 10 got stuck. This never happened on the last round, by the way. We were loading 3 or 4 rounds in our mags at a time. Group shots.

Here are 3 pics from this weekend of fun. Lonely walk was taken through a 17 X spotting scope, from the 70's. Once I got that long range stuff figured out, the silhouette pic makes me feel good about 600 yard shots. Thats when banging the gong started. Her POF was the first one we adjusted and she was banging the steel before I got mine adjusted. We had a very knowledgeable guy on the range to help us that day and we kept ammo waste to a minimum. Damn, good shooters are good people to learn from!

Since they are going to take care of it, I won't be tearing it apart Dews. I'd love to answer all of these questions with facts. I hope that they will inform me of what they found.

These all sound like what I am experiencing. Bolt does lock back every time. Spent shell casings literally would fall into a bowl, next to the rifle. It is suppressed. Rifle is going back to Arizona for checking. They can clean the sombitch too! Selling agent is sending back for me. Says the POF's have been flawless for them and it might be an ammo issue. Wait a minute here. I have thrown everything I've got down the barrel. 147, 149, 168 and 175 match grade. All will fail to eject. We were banging 9" steel gongs at 600 yards with ALL of that ammo. Hers just kept jamming. Such a thrill killer. The selling agent said that his, throws the spent shells 4 to 5 feet over his shoulder. This one never did. Always dropped them on the table. I thought it was normal, until the frequency became worse for the jams. Thanks guys.

A friend has a POF upper and barrel in .308 It ejects a spent case, just out of the chamber and in the first hundred rounds, I chalked it up to break in. Now it's almost every other round does not eject fully and the bolt slams the next round sideways and literally bend the bullet. The spent case has not fully come out and is stuck at the front of the port. After that first day, I have not cleaned it for about 200 rounds. This is very disappointing when trying to have some enjoyable range time. Anyone else have POF ejection problems? I could not find much POF info here. My DPMS was run through the same regimen and throws spent cases about 8 feet. This POF kinda dribbles the spent case onto the table. Is this the difference between direct impingement and a piston action? If there is another thread discussing this, let me know where it is please.

KFS Versa Pod quick detach model 51, 7" to 9" Back ordered but seems the right choice for me. Range use and then snap it off and throw it in my backpack or carry bag...........or not. Thanks again board!

I'm a meat and taters guy. I can do this, since I put that swivel post on there. Notice the identical post on the butt stock, in lieu of the sling/strap loop. Detailed pics of previous installs would lessen future mistakes. I hate having to make that statement, "Don't ask me how I know".

Other than it having a bull barrel, your reply makes some sense, since they don't "rail" the bottom of the gas block. I guess I will have to make a custom saddle for the vent tube. Unless there are pictured options on this board.

I would like to attach a bi pod to my DPMS LR308B wit bull barrel and solid free float hand guard. Are there others with this rifle that have had to customize the mounting hardware, to make it functional? The sling bead access is definitely going to be a problem. Are there pictures from you guys with this rifle? Maybe a barrel clamp type bi pod?

Curiosity got the better of me. Here is the end of the shell casing. I'll look inside to see if it has 1 or 2 holes that indicate Boxer VS Berdan. Some interesting history about this on the interwebs. The fact that it is brass is the most important for the wellfare of the feed ramp. The carton as you see above says non corrosive, but I will take that to mean, "Clean your weapon when through". Not a big deal as I like to do this anyway. Nothing like a well oiled machine. If Berdan, into the junk pile of brass I will not use anyway it will go. Thanks guys. I have used this before and it does fire flawlessly. I will be using some tomorrow. Now, about that damned trigger!

I did not open a package as of yet, but am told it is reloadable brass by the gun shop I purchased at. If not, back it will go. I'm not sure when the words, "Keep out of the reach of children" became the norm, but I'm sure it was later than the 70's. We weren't such idiots back then. A lot of things got sorted out naturally.

Has anyone seen these before. Under .50 per round. I can't reload for that, for plinking practice. I opened the actual box and all 200 round packages are hermetically sealed, with no evidence of moisture. I plan to use these in June and before I do, I have to get a new trigger group for my LR308B. The new Nikon scope is amazing, but this trigger makes me wonder what's wrong with me. Shooting groups of 3 at various powers, 2 will be within a half inch, but then 1 will be 2 inches off. This trigger feels like it has 3 gritty stages and other rifles fire effortlessly, in one stage. I'm sure it has a lot to do with the 7 lb pull, but damn, it's almost un-natural. I haven't taken it apart to see if there are rough edges to hone, which I can certainly do. What is best plan?

That is interesting. By the Sportsman's Guide own print, the M-308 comes "usually" 1' or 30mm tube. This is getting nuts. They don't have the specs listed right either. Not an argument, just some observations. Then, when you look at the reviews, a photo stands out with one of these scopes mounted, that would surly give the user a scope eye. The eye relief is indeed, 3.7" to 4", or you will not be able to see a damned thing. The new P-308 is a full 2.5" to 3" longer than the M-308. Again, not an argument starter. Just stating some general news about this confusing info on these 2 different models (which is really 4 different models) of scopes. One thing is clear. I have what I have and it is exactly what I wanted and ordered. There was NO surprise when I opened the box at this store and what I show in the pic above is the actual way it fits on my rifle. Notice that the eye receiver is just slightly forward and ahead of the charging handle now, for proper eye relief. The previously mounted Simmons (also pictured) was, approximately 1.75" rearward of the charging handle and made it difficult to pull that 308 spring back! Even with the single side extension. All of the things that were appealing to me, are featured. I sure don't know as much as the rest of you all on this board, but I know this has changed this rifle completely and for the better.

A lot of this is on earlier pages of this thread. Tis why I posted the info I have. Nikon DOES have 2 versions of the P-308 scope I pictured on my rifle. This one is 4x16, 30 mm tube, 42 mm objective lens, side focus and is still hard to find. You will pay over 400.00 for a new one and I'm unaware of any refurbs yet. They just came out in June of last year. I like you, did a lot of research and it was going to be the new P-308 or Vortex Viper for me. A lot of sites had the scope advertised, but when you went to click on check out, they all said back ordered. The place I bought from said there was no deposit required for me to place my order, so I called every 4 days until it came in. (Jan 2nd to March, as I posted) I looked at both scopes in the store and decided to take the one I ordered from Nikon. I guess what I am saying is, I don't know how many of the reviews on the P-308 are truly reviewing the "new" model. I would say that any review dated prior to June 6th of 2016, is probably on the original P-308 scope. They are totally different in every way. Make note of the tube diameter. The 30 mm tube, is the newest one.

I am learning this scope as I go GRA. I'll let you know if it holds what I have it set to after next weekend, if the weather is good for me to shoot. It was a completely overcast day and 10:00 am to 12:30 pm should have provided me with the best light available. I am expecting this thing will allow ample light to pass for sunrise/set hours. Eye relief is over 3", so I do wonder what will happen in bright sunlight from different angles. So far, all I can say is that it's amazingly clear. Especially compared to my previous, 30 year old Simmons. The mounts are from Brownells and they were expensive, but in all of my searching for steel rings, these looked the most rugged. They ARE heavy. I reported on the poor machining finish earlier in this thread. I fit these things perfectly on a shaft I made to 30mm and minus .0005. That's how I found the internal bumps. Bluing ink is a wonderful thing. I would definitely recommend pre-fitting any cast or machined rings to a known shaft, before ever laying a scope tube.

This is a close up of the scope mounted. This one is far different than the P-308 that is readily available. My opinion was that the dealer did a shitty job of bore sighting as it literally took 7 shots (6- 147 grain cheap Magtech ammo and 1 with expensive ammo), before I hit a 9" plate, at 25 yards. I was not very happy. Once I knew where I was, it was easily dialed in at 25 yrds with 5 more rounds and then I went to 100 yards. It took 6 shots more, to consistently be 1" left or right and 3" high. I used 8 more 175 grain and brought it down to 1" high and left or right 1". Wind was gusty left to right and I was miserable and un-happy that I forgot more of the cheaper ammo. I packed it up and came home. I didn't even retrieve my targets. Just not a fun day (2.5 hours) I hope to put at least 20 to 50 more rounds through, before going out further to 200 yrds. The glass is amazingly clear though. No complaints about that.

It's a beautiful thing! It does however, look very thirsty for some lube oil. LOL

I should have been more kind and showed the box. It is indeed, the Nikon P-308 30mm tube, 4x16x42. The Nikon Rep as did some others, had tables and displays set up in the front of this store today. He said, "You're going to love that view". I asked him about the delivery time problems and he stated, "It was introduced last June, sold out and took a while to get more here on the boat". He had new versions of the M in 1" tube and Prostaff series scopes, among other out of my league types there on the table. He did give me a tee shirt! Oh, happy day. Yay! I am more than smiling that I purchased my own rings ahead of time and had measured them out. While they had 2 rows of rings, they didn't have suitable ones for this application. That would have been a disaster to go buy a new scope and have nothing suitable for mounting in the store. Notice the eye relief difference, from old to new. No one will ever make the mistake and get scope eye with this. I know I went to the right store now. They listened to my story about the old scope and were more than happy to have it assessed for me. $ 5.00 shipping fee. That's customer service.

I won't be able to try it for 2 weeks, but it's finally ready. Amazing glass! The top one is the original scope I had on it.

My new scope is in! My new scope is in! I pick it up on March 4th or 5th, as time permits from a minimum of 200 miles or 300 miles away. But it will be mine, ALL mine! Newest and latest P-308 by Nikon. Been on order since Jan 2nd.
