Did he drive over it, for cryin out loud? That's just funny.

Okay, Mike. I thought it resembled a Pelican, more so than another brand mentioned. So, what gives?

Ok, I am not a Cabela's lackey, but here are the pics of the new travel case. Attributes are 44" long and 15" wide. Billed as a 2 gun case and pic shows what I did to customize for travel. As stated before, 3 layers of foam. The center one, you cut and trim for your weapons. I could not find a suitable one by Pelican, at the 2 retail stores I went to. The case weighs a full 25lbs as is and loaded with the 2 weapons, is damn near 50lbs. With the wheels, it does drag easily.

Power to weight ratio, for the job to be done. Extra features don't mean much, if you are not going to use them in the field. I have to carry the damned thing for a half mile to my hunting location. Change the scenario and I'll rethink my position. Oh, crap! Now I have to carry 4 extra magazines and perhaps a 30lb ammo can. Dammit!

Not 5 minutes after I posted that, I started seeing them. Ghost in the machine? It became very annoying, so I tried to sign out. It wouldn't let me do that either. wth!

Nice picture for the insurance company record though. I echo stain. No one hurt.

No problems in Michigan.

TSA approved locks, 98Z5V? You cannot use your own? What if you make that mistake? Commercial locks are available to be keyed alike. Anyone that has that kind of money invested in the contents, should be allowed to protect them with a quality lock.

Sorry about your bad experience, Edge. Care to elaborate a little more please? This should be a great place to copy and paste that law, as written, 98Z5V. I looked at the pelican cases. This particular one appears just as sturdy on the outside and 3 generous sections of foam on the inside, look like it will hold the arms fast. You have to custom cut the middle layer to place your equipment inside. It has spots for 4 locks on the opening side and looks meaty enough to place one at both ends, if you drill holes in the mating bosses. I don't know if this is a new product offering. Anyone else own this particular case yet?

I would really like to know how everyone handles travel preparations, with firearms. What type of case? How much ammunition is allowed with the weapon? TSA nightmares at the check in counter? Insurance? Baggage handlers knowing what's inside? Locks and number of them? With all of these problems in mind, how is anyone able to sleep nights, before the trip? Please share your recommendations and stories so that those of us who will be faced with this will be in the know. I want to travel with an LR 308 and another long rifle, both with scopes, in the same case. I bought a Cabela's branded case that holds both well, after cutting out the recess area for the weapons and magazines. Loaded, it weighs just shy of 50lbs. CAB-44 tactical case. Pictures are available, if the discussion takes off. Thanks!

New to the forum today. I have been reading as much as I had access to over the last few days. I hope having more access, brings more info into the world of .308 shooting. Personal info is as follows. I bought an AR at a frantic time, during this current regime. I actually went to the particular shop and had a verbal commitment to them for the only Armalite unit they had in stock. Not 20 minutes after my call, I arrived and learned someone was buying that rifle at the time I was talking to them on the phone. Anyway, I got stuck with a DPMS LR308B that they did have. The case that it came with sucked, but I was either going to sell this piece at a huge profit, without ever having fired it, or wait it out. I had been looking at various AR's for many years, but definitely made up my mind that whatever I bought, would be in .308 cal. As expected, the prices did jump temporarily as I'm sure you all know. Just not enough for me to sell it. After 6 months and the hysteria quieted down, I decided I wanted to make it truly, my own. I paid a hefty amount for steel scope mounts and put a very tried and true scope I have had for 25 years on it. (Simmons, Pro-Hunter) My first trip to the range was solo and began at 50 yards and then 100. I only took 20 rounds with me that day. Damn! I love this rifle! Cheap, military ball ammo I got from a local gun show. (.80 a round not cheap) I have never felt anything this sweet. Bench rested atop (2) 40lb bags of bird seed. I couldn't wait to go back to a range that had facilities, spotters and with a few friends. I cleaned and oiled this thing thoroughly and put it away. I can't get enough of shooting this piece! The 300 rounds of old, military stuff is now gone, plus several hundred more commercial rounds of whatever I can find and the passion grows with every shot. I did buy 3 boxes of hornady, 168 gr for hunting deer and used 4 rounds. 3 at the range and 1 at a deer. Instant knock down at about 140 yrds. I am not a competition shooter, by any means, but I want to iterate that whatever I throw into this thing so far, is dead nuts accurate out to 220 yards. 147, 149, 150, 168gr stuff just flows through and spits out like a dream. Blowing up tannerite in 1 lb containers, being the proof. I have not put any steel cased stuff through it, nor do I intend to. Since you all have way more experience than I about such things, I have some general questions. 1- Is this characteristic of this particular rifle to be this accurate with so many different loads? Not many places I can find in Michigan to shoot longer distances, without being a club member. 2- It seems some of the commercial, ball ammo makes a bigger dent in certain materials than others. I do not know much about frangible, vs other types yet. I just have enjoyed shooting. Most everything I have been shooting, goes right through 10" diameter trees. 3- I have had a few radically abused, case necks come out and do not know why. There is always some brass flakes that I have to clean away after shooting outings. 4- Is there any major maintenance that I should do, to keep the barrel tight, etc? If there is a better place for this to be posted, please let me know and I will copy and paste it. Thanks! Quote MultiQuote Edit

I've been looking for exactly this thread! Yes, the ZQ ammo has been on sale and even on double sale at Wallymart, since November. If you are lucky, you may get it for 7.97 a box. You have to ask them to "scan it" though. The regular price is often the only price shown. 17.97 Every one I have put through goes off and cycles perfectly! I am glad to see that no one has had issues with it so far as DPMS does have a thing against using much foreign ammo.

If the question is still, "Why does anyone need a AR15?", the answer is, because we can!

Michigan has also reported a 25 to 30% decline in deer kill, over all. Not so in my back yard, where we can't hunt them. So, I just take pictures.

Matt, have you checked around to see if this company has taken your prototype idea and thought it was so good from the get go, that they are trying to make this for a production item today? This is a year old thread and has me wondering........... I have been shiestered on a couple of patent ideas, almost precisely as you describe.

Searched for specific info on DPMS LR308B problems and this was the 2nd site on the list. Read lots of stuff for 3 days before joining and am hoping to learn/share as much as possible.
