  1. the one with the black gas key bolts is the Aero. They are actually both well staked. The Aero is better than it looks in the pic, it's kind of at a weird angle
  2. I just got a new AIM BCG in the mail so I thought I would post on the similarities and differences as well as a few pictures They are obviously not identical, but I think it's safe to say the major parts are made by the same folks. The finish is bright and shiny on the AIM and dull and modeled on the Aero ( the Aero uses the Fail Zero coating which I guess is not your standard NiB treatment). They are staked different, are using different gas key screws but I can't tell any physical differences between the bolt components. They both seem to be nicely made. I suspect the Fail Zero coating is better even though it's not as pretty but I think after seeing both it would be hard to justify an extra $90 for the Aero I have not shot either yet, I have a set of Go/No-Go gauges coming and after they show I'll check headspace on both and report back. I don't expect any issues with either.
  3. Its a .750 gas block, The barrel is not a lightweight, but its not a heavy profile either. Kind of in the middle. The UBR weighs like 1.5 pounds on its own, so Its no lightweight but it does not account for a 12 pound rifle. The bipod probably weighs a pound . I probably need to check my scale. It feels heavy but I was shocked when it read 12.5. I have a HK91 clone that is about 9 pounds though and it does feel considerably heavier than that.
  4. Well, I bought one of the Aero upper/rail combo deals on sale for $235, I picked up one of those $175 BCG from AIM surplus. I got a ACS-L stock, MOE grip another CMC trigger. I got a buffer tube, gas tube, pivot and takedown pins. so I need a barrel, gas block, flash hider, lower, buffer and spring, So another $500-$600 I should have a second rifle kicking around. Two is one, one is none <thumbsup>
  5. Over all I am pretty happy with this. I spent a little more money than I planed on but I think it was well spent. My biggest gripe with it so far is just its weight. She is a tank. With a empty magazine and the bi-pod she clocks in at 12.5 lbs With a optic and loaded mag its gonna be 16 pounds! And this is a relatively light 16" barrel. Cant imagine what it it would weigh with a 22" bull barrel! I am hoping this weekend I'll get a chance to see if it goes bang. It is mostly Aero Areo 16" 1/10 Stainless bead blasted barrel Fortis Stainless gas bock. Spikes nitrided gas tube AAC comp/flash hider Aero enhanced upper and keymod rail Aero M5 lower GGG folding sights Magpul UBR stock CMC 3.5lb flat trigger BAD-ASS Ambi saftey AXTS/Raptor ambi charging handle Aero/Fail Zero BGC So know I want to build another one. I suppose that is the way it always works. You learn something and then you want to do the next thing. I think I might try and build a much lighter version of this same rifle. Find a pencil barrel and put on a Magpul ACS-L See if I can get down in the 7-8 pound range. Anyway She is not a Si-Defense or one of the Rainer branded Mega rifles but as she sits with the used UBR stock I am into it about $1350 without sights or a magazine. Right at about half what one of those "fancy" rifles would cost. If it will put 5 rounds in a 2" circle at 100 yards I am gonna call it a win.
  6. Boy, Looks a lot like the Aero Precision BCG dont you think? I have two NIB Aero ones on order and I just ordered two from AIM. If they ever show up I'll give a report.
  7. Personally I think that is asking if a guy would like to drive a Ferrari or a Lamborgini

    jail time

Ive got a 40, 40C 9 and 9C Great pistols man. Next one will be the 45 :))
  9. Yeah Extra uppers have a way of turning into guns. I used to have half a dozen "extra" AR15 uppers but eventually they all ended up complete rifles ::) I can tell you its a bit more stressful at this point trying to sort out the big bore stuff. I'll feel better when I have a rifle that works and a better idea what I am doing. I own 15 or so AR15's and built over half of them from scratch so I thought I had a pretty good grasp of what would be entailed with its big brother. Not so much ^-^
  10. Cool, $10 is a easy sell. I ordred one off eBay.
  11. So a little further reading leads me to believe that the DPMS .308 LPK comes with a AR15 mag catch. After 10 minutes of searching I found a AR10 mag catch in stock at Delta Three Tactical and ordered one.
  12. Not only did I see it, I had to buy one. Which kind of irritates me because now I am commited to a second rifle which I cant really afford or need. But too good of deal to pass up.
  13. So on Midways parts page they list a AR15/ LR308 Mag catch http://www.midwayusa.com/product/327344/dpms-magazine-release-ar-15-lr-308-matte So am I to make the assumption that all the parts for the Aero are DPMS patten except for the mag catch which is AR10? If that is the case where can I buy the AR10 mag catch as a stand alone part?
  14. So I got a few parts this week and have my lower mostly put together but I have a question. So I did not buy a LPK, I had a CMC trigger to use and a good supply of AR bits so I just ordered a mag catch and the pivot and takedown pins. Everything seems good other than the mag catch. It seems like the rod is too short to let the button stick out far enough on the other side. It works but there is only like 3/32" of the button sticking proud of the receiver. Is there a .308 specific mag catch? Other than that I feel pretty good. I got the notice that my upper and rail shipped, still no word on the BCG or barrel.
  15. I can vouch for Aero building their own and they build many products that are rebranded for other companies. Aero is an actual manufacture and even has their own proprietary forging dies I am also pretty sure that Rainer builds nothing, they put their name on other peoples products. Rainer is right up the road from me, I am in their shop at least once a month. They are kind of like the Ferrari dealership, Everything is beautiful and expensive and you’re scared to touch it (and many of the salesman are a bit snobby, Not all though, there are some really helpful guys too) You would think having Rainer three miles away would be great, But I feel like a cheapskate every time I go in there. They have the best and baddest of everything but most of the time I am hoping to spend the smallest amount of money I can and make it work. Last week I was in there asking about .308 BCG working with their select barrel and asking if they had ever had a PSA in for headspace, He looked at me like I was a filthy bum brining up such garbage. :))
  16. What are the thoughts on a adjustable gas block? I was thinking of using a Syrac?
  17. I ordered a Aero BCG and barrel, Not cheap but I'll pretty much have an Aero rifle. Still should only have around $1200 in it which is better than the $1499 they ask and mine will have a better trigger and stock. I ordred a tubbs buffer spring and a DPMS buffer, I have a ACC 51T comp for it. Midway had takedown and pivot pins so I ordered a set of those as well. The only major thing I need is a charging handle. I'll probably just pop into Rainer and pick up a Raptor for it.
  18. So the Shadow Ops BCG's are both on backorder, So is the Aero NIB which is what I would like to have. You have three choices with PSA but you guys got me scared of them. I own lots of 5.56 PSA stuff and have been happy with all of it so far (probably 6 complete uppers, several BCG and at least 10 LPK's) But the .308 stuff spooks me since I have no experiance with it. The PSA NIB is $189 and in stock, Shoot they have a Black Nitride one for $149
  19. So is the Axts Raptor good to go in the Aero upper?
  20. And you guys are awesome by the way. I have accomplished more this morning than in a week of fumbleing around on my own. Thanks!
  21. No pin at Schuyler but they had a complete aero upper for $545! Considering I had to pay $340 with tax on just a upper and rail that would have been a smokin deal. Too late now
  22. Cool, so E1 upper and rail ordered along with the mag catch and the front pin, need to figure out where to source a rear pin if you guys think the PSA is a no go. Not sure why I could not find the E1 stuff on their page, they only had the 12" in stock, I would have preferred the 15" but I'll get over it.
  23. I went into Rainer this morning and tried to buy takedown pins and a mag catch, no dice, full LPK only. I had my M5 lower with me though and put a Rainer Arms full upper on it to see how it fit. It did not look bad at all, a few lines that don't match up but would certainly be passable. Of course the Mega/Rainer is more money so I don't know why you would buy one over the Aero. I would consider the M5E1 upper and Aero rail but it is not listed on thier website. They show them on complete rifles? I ask the guy at SAA about the E1 and he shrugged and said maybe they discontinued it. How about just buying the long takedown pin from PSA? It's twice the money of the Aero but atleast they have one to buy?
  24. Hey this is a first post here, I actually posted this post over at Northwest Firearms where I am actually a contributor. I just signed up for here this morning. Doing some google looking I found this forum so I figured it was more likely I would get good info from you guys. I am headed out to work this morning so I didn’t really have time to dig and search for answers to these questions so I apologize in advance because I know they have most likely already been answered in other threads. Anyway, Glad to be here Well I took the plunge, went down to Surplus Arms & Ammo and bought a Aero M5 lower. I have never owned a .308 AR let alone built one. I kind of expected it to be like building a AR15 but I can say so far its been nothing like that. So I bought the lower, I plan on using a CMC trigger so I really dont want to buy a entire LPK for the thing since all I really need are the takedown pins and mag release. Aero sells those separate but the long pin is out of stock. I plan on using a Aero upper, I figured at least having those two match would alleviate any worries about compatibility. I was told that the standard DPMS pins will work but the rear is a little short, It does not seem like anyone but Aero sells the Aero pins. I started looking around at BCG and barrels, Which If I can I would like to buy from the same manufacture (that way if there is a headspace issue I know they will take care of it) It seems like BCG vary wildly in price for comparable features. A PSA Nitride BCG is $149 VS a DPMS phosphate @ $289 both made from 9310 I might opt for a Rainer Arms barrel, They are 3 miles from my shop and I hear they will check headspace with one of their barrels free of charge when you buy the barrel. The 18" Black Select is $279 and instock. I hate to buy there BCG though as it is twice what the PSA one is and is made from the same stuff. Aero's Buffer, spring and tube set is not in stock. I am leaning towards using a PWS enhanced buffer tube I have but will still need to source a buffer and spring. A rail seems to be the hardest thing to determine if it will work The Aero says it is a DPMS High (.210) profile. I would like a slim Keymod rail something like the KMR The only one I have found is the Odinworks but they list two options 2.0 and 2.06 and the Aero says 2.10 so I am assuming they will not work, They 15" is out of stock anyway. Anyway now that I have taken the plunge it seems like its a little stressful trying to determine what's what and if all the bits will work together. I am in no real hurry but I would like to get some parts coming to at least get the lower together and start figuring out the rest of the bits. Anyone have some insight or suggestions ?
