  1. Main Tube Size: 34 mm XTR II 2-10x42mm I like looks of the ADM. I was guessing that was american defense after my post. The UBR seems like most heavy buttstock minus the PRS class! Woah. I bet it IS PRS weight, when the aluminum strike pad is installed. Anyone around here using one of thos UBR's? I also like how magpul mentions on their webpage that a custom buffer and spring may be required for the 7.62nato chambered AR.
  2. eh, hate to double post - who has experience with the american defense? was checking out that manufacturer's recon-h 34mm ring mount. says from top of rail to centerline of optic is 2.010". While holding slide mic over the flattop on dpms, felt decent. I like where it sat. tipping chin down some more will allow getting on the backups reasonably well i think. plus, providing ~.25" of space between the bottom of lens and folded iron sight if my mathtimations are near correct. Shame burris does not offer a more clear diagram of their dimensions. I am hoping the 2" offset will work reasonably well with this optic and the backups. would be grateful to hear more from an experienced owner of american defense mounts, or burris optics. thank you!
  3. I got out the slide micrometer.. dpms shows 1.35" from flat top to centerline of match aperture. Top of carry handle was ~1.5" I was thinking 1.835" over the flat top would be about ideal for me. Anyone know of a mount in that range of height? The pepr mount seems... nifty, just - I was to go low mass as possible while retaining the one piece base.
  4. Ok, so.. Which mount to choose? Want to use the LMT 308 BUIS set. Was looking at the Leupold mark 6/trijicon vcog.. However, I am starting to consider the burris XTR II 2-10power FFP lens instead. Was looking at a few of the larue tactical QD mounts. The LMT BUIS says it is .8" tall when collapsed, approximately. I believe the actual measurement is .75", though I would rather have a bit of airgap versus contact. The Burris XTR says ~45mm of ocular lens diameter. Which, I think equates to ~1.78" across. Half this comes down to .89" This lends me to estimate that with .9" and .8" I need my lens centerline to be a rough 1.7" above the rail? Looking for a sturdy mount that quick disconnects, while being fairly low mass. Trying to keep from adding more than two pounds to rifle when mounting lens. Glass weighs in at ~1.5lbs Finally, to all of you with experience mounting glass.. What tends to be an ideal centerline height off of the flat rail, before needing a cheek riser? For an idea, am average sized American. 5ft 10. Thinking anything under two inches from my cheek bone shouldn't be bad. It feels like on the DPMS carbine and A2 sights/handle.. That is roughly 2" over the flat top.
  5. No offense to Clint , but he is selling a system & the Tubb's spring would contradict his system he is selling , direct competition . Nothing wrong with Heavy Buffers or the system he sells, just two different ways to accomplish the same thing . Good point. Thank you guys!
  6. not looking for less weight. asking how the weights compare. The DPMS carbine rattles a bit.. I only am interested in the heavy buffer for recoil reasons. When opting to stay non-adjustable gas system, the additional weight is reported to help control thump by spreading it over a slightly longer duration. As much as I hate that 'tacticool' look.. I may opt for the BCM a5 buffer tube, XH ar15 carbine buffer and the tubb spring. The ACS stock seems reasonable. Simply put - ease of clambering around. Not to mention I notice it stretches a bit longer than the A2 stock when at max length. Weight is not so much the issue of being light/heavy, just where said weight resides. Steel barrel + aluminum and plastic controls = nose heavy. Flinging wrenches all day may make me resilient to some weight out front but still. For the USPSA multi-gun days, it will make a difference when running and gunning. Need some way to add more mass for the rear end. Guess.. increasing my double A battery count from two to six and stuffing it in a buttstock hole would be better than my ASKhole, when it comes to balancing acts.
  7. Why put a carbine stock with 18" barrel? Would not all the additional moving parts add weight? Not only that, but... those two AA batteries may give my colon a shocking cleanse. I drink a special tea for that. =\ I actually had looked for the vltor tube/stock and considered such a build.. but, I could not find one inventoried. Do not find one for me either, the next part on my build is a barrel. ;-) I understand and agree that the carbine stocks do increase mobility when slung or traversing rougher terrain. How much weight do they add? Also, the last few I had experience with rattled pretty annoyingly. However, that may have just been my own ears. Not really on subject here though. I was just curious about the part stack up. Clint spoke fairly... despairingly for the Tubb spring. ASKHole AWAY!!
  8. Turns out, they changed from chrome silicon buffer springs to stainless steel "to meet MILSPEC requirements." Customer service guy claims 80% of chrome silicon lifespan. Change to endure saltwater tests. *shrug* sounds like they reduced production costs for profit margin. Closing the question about the nomenclature issues of threads from two and three years back versus current storefront marketing. If anyone else is running this combination, please chime in. The ASKHOLE man
  9. How many people run this setup? Robocop#### posted about it, I believe.. when I used the search feature. Also, everyone calls the tubb spring CS. The webpage says it is stainless. What does the CS mean?
  10. Nice Dillon press.. I will try out that ms1, i already have a few rhody slings sitting, if do not like that magpul. Thank you survival shop.
  11. Roger Wilco. Thank you all for making things clear.
  12. If everyone is so sure.. I will try this Tubb spring and I looked at the ms1 mule thing. Will think about what everyone here is saying. Not quite sure how that ms1 doubles as a single point sling though.. What is the big issue with Clint(HeavyBuffer) and the tubb spring? Anyone ever tried using the tubb spring and heavy buffer together? I looked in to it some, asked Clint about it. He said do not waste the money. *shrug* I watched the videos that tubb manufacturer posted also. I noted two things. It was longer than the standard spring and it compressed farther. Otherwise, who knows.
  13. I appreciate all the offerings. I will get some parts and try a few different sling attachment methods. What is the call to the tubb's wire? I checked it out.. but - being able to compress farther than the buffer length does not seem much more than a selling point. Is it, because the thing is well polished? I was under the impression that.. once the buffer bottoms out.. spring compression means nothing. Also, any good chrome silicon wire should do the same - being round or flat, yes? Survivalshop - mid august starline will now be offering 308 brass. read up on it. sounds almost like lake city. thick webbing and reduced capacity. Did I mention I work in the same city starline manufacturers in? =9 For plinking, was going to throw a brass catcher attachment on the flat top. Fresh starline or once used lakecity LR brass.. either route $$$ I had considered using the QD cups for a side mount sling, but I am a bit unsure how it will all work on the buttstock. Seems like it would work better for carrying the rifle in a slung position, however - how well do they work when throwing the rifle from chest to back, or in reverse? I am a tad nervy about the 'quick' term, as a few people I know have had them pop loose while running. They were mentioning how their sling hardware would actuate the quick release button if the rifle would move specific ways. Using the angled mount built into the stock would not be too bad, however I am thinking how will it ride when muzzle down and hanging from chest or muzzle up, hanging from back. Thank you everyone for all the chiming in, support and advisory from experience! I appreciate it all. Hope everyone is able to discern my natures for being good intent and merely wrought with inquisition for self-enlightenment.
  14. *shrug* I guess I should choice term it as a 'operator's rig' instead of a limp dick tacticool webbing... Military sling is the proper term for the 'ghettodesian sling'!! Looking a bit further.. Thinking the primaryweapons.com keymod bipod attachment(designed for harris bipods) will do for the front end. Then, some uncle mike's hardware. The 7/8" 10x32 machine thread sling attachment should work in the plug hole of that MOE buttstock. I already have a carbine length dpms panther. Thank you though washguy. Appreciate the consideration and thought. survivalshop - My willie gets up and hard when we talk about leather, burning powder and a good hard run during a rainy day! So long as we are lugging around some 7.62 nato and singing songs. I will lead with 'up on cripple creek'. Good luck had just stung me... to the race track I did go... She bet on one horse to win... ... and I bet on another to show! *panting* Now the odds were in my favor.. I had her five to one!
  15. Well, I am unsure how well the leather sling will function on that goofy sling mount built in to the MOE is all. Avoid one piece-gotcha. I was told the heavy buffer would help control things and improve dwell, decreasing risk of a case blowout. Am going to be throwing hot hand loads. The A2 has a standard swivel in it. I want a traditional sling mount. Hanging the leather strap from the diagonal slot found in MOE stock may be problematic. I was considering it some this morning while headed to work. However, as stated I am uncertain how that will work. Has anyone else tried using that diagonal sling mount with good slings? Not them floppy dick, sandpaper things that look like webbing. Those are just.. well, they do not work like the Rhodesian sling for control. Though, they sure give a tacticool factor. Pardon my crass views of webbing.. I like leather. Guess I can try it on a different rifle and see how it looks in a few days. I am just not very... "thrilled" at mounting a 1913 rail and sling attachment to that is all. Which, is the best way to approach this. The whole issue has turned me away from the MOE stock. I looked in one, considering to just punch the plug out, shove in an uncle mike's machine thread mount, use stack+lock washers and nut to hold everything together. That was also when I was becoming concerned with the "strength" of that plastic. It is like 3/8" thick there. Maybe. Any input would be great. Thanks.
  16. Why skip the heavy buffer? The MOE rifle stock is nice. I agree so much, however it lacks a standard sling swivel in the bottom and requires obnoxious amounts of additional cost to mount a moe rail and 1913 sling attachment. Remember, I am using a Rhodesian sling from Andy's Leather. Any reason to skip the one piece ring? I thought they offered improved sealing.
  17. holy hells! Shepp will consult me out of a month of spending money into this hole! That whole receiver kit is actually pretty light. Handguard... Is REAL nice. When I saw the box open... I thought "oh poop.. there goes my savings". The feel just as a receiver kit and MIAD gen 1.1 pistol grip.. feels good. Are the KNS "match grade" .154" trigger/hammer pins worth the $6 they run, over a $4 pin set from dpms? Looking so far to be a parts roster of: Dwilson bolt carrier + rubber city high pressure bolt + jp one piece gas ring Slash heavy buffer - rifle length SLR non adjustable nitride gas block + nitride rifle length gas tube Criterion hybrid contour 18" stainless nitride barrel BAD CAS short throw Hiperfire 24 3G trigger Thinking I want the LMT back up sights. They are pricey! But... Being I am going to be running heavy metal limited for a year or two before affording a good 1-6 power first focal plane lens.. Any free consultations or chime ins??
  18. Do not steal my ID or anything with that serial =X
  19. I have heard of them. Seems like life is going even better for you now! Soon, your screen name should be soapguy - outfitters gonna clean you out!
  20. That is the MATEN. I mentioned 'oh man.. sure wish you had one of these in the maten and not this poodle shooting five-five-six...' "oh, we do. I have a rifle length and an extended rifle length in the back." 'are you sure, i looked for a little while just two nights ago. saw everything was m-lok and out of stock. no single uppers and separate lowers, no kits..' "let me go check, but i am certain.. *click click* inventory says we have one here in the building" She walked off.. came back with a quite dusty arsed box. It came home with me. I think it was maybe Gwen? I could describe her physical form. Nice lady. I would say mid to late forties. Graying blonde hair. Sweet as could be. So, I broke my bank.. followed the advice and took a hit to my wallet in views of 'when will i see one of these again?' I really wanted this set when I first started getting into the AR10/308 build idea. About a year back. Brushed it off.. Saw one today and, well.. Now I am eating cans of tuna and pasta salads again for a month. Next is a non-adjustable nitride gas block and tube from SLR, nitride hybrid contour criterion barrel and a heavy buffer. Mega recommends the rubber city bolt carrier.. Thinking I am going to use the dwilson bolt carrier in nitride with the rubber city high pressure bolt and JP one piece gas ring. Will be checking headspace, hope everything comes out well. I hate the nickel boron. No judgement please. The plan is black on black with non-symmetrical urban gray cerakoting for breakup. Then, I can use a gillie style cloth wrap for matching season and have 'depth' to the breakup. Besides, I have heard nitride finish is actually pretty decent. Opting for the non-adjusting block due to simplicity and 'adaptive' nature to different loads. Compromises. *shrug* The receiver set is so darn tight, I have to really pull it apart. Can push it together and shake it hard with out the pins in place. Still will not come apart. Plus, I sure like the aesthetics; deflector pad and all. Thank you guys for riding my back side about putting up or shutting up. Even though I will be needing a belt after this tuna and pasta diet takes hold!
  21. So.. I drove four hours plus change to JSE... The staff is AMAZING there!!!!! Top tier, A++ people. Turns out, it is family owned. Well... .......... ........... Bad news.. I played with the ambi standard maten set.. then, while filing the FFL paperwork.... ............ I ask politely to fondle the 5.56 maten special upper sitting on the shelf beneath my paperwork. At this point I begin socializing with the lady checking me out. Turns out, they have this extended rifle length MKM Maten.. And.. Long story short --- Ohyea, MikedaddyH - move to a better state or stop breaking the damn law! My FFL paperwork was sub ten minutes.
  22. When I bought my colt 1911 about ten months back.. the process literally took less then fifteen minutes. Maybe you just fit the no fly classification during initial screening!! Ever lived in Chicago?
  23. Well, the lady at the phone with JSE this morning said to anticipate 15-20 minutes. Sometimes, ten. I am getting there around the time doors open. Will be damned if I drive four hours one way to get told 'come back later'. No sir. I already passed a check last year, have had zero infractions - moving violations or otherwise since. Better be no issues! Yea, you all are REAL good at spending my money. I fully intend to throw up a picture or two tomorrow. Just the receiver sets but still..
  24. Hmm. Good to know. I only had marginal experience with them. One email response, if a single sentence can be called such... Never returned my calls. Needless, I went another route. Glad someone else can vouch positively for them. If they are that busy when you visited the store front, it would lend itself to understanding postures about the customer service discrepancies. Bummer about the barrel either way.
  25. Well, JSE has my order in processing for the ambi upper/lower set. If they are quick enough, I may pick it up tomorrow. If not, I will be getting it next weekend. While not the special handguard unit.. was leaning to the SLR ultralite keymod 16" guard. I was able to get one of the last two receiver sets they had in stock. Last night at 9pm central.. they had ten. Woah! Guess the building process has begun. Eventually will have some photographs. Again, I appreciate all the help and guidance!!
