I am guessing it is a broached barrel.. if memory serves, Pac-Nor was offering broached polygonal rifle barrels. Though, I forgot if they are the ones. Tactical Machine as a whole is very sketchy to me. I avoided them after some short sighted experiences on the 1911's. Their products were not rated well and the customer response was horrid. A one sentence response email for a series of six questions left me wanting. Know nothing about them now, I last interacted with the Nate fellow about two years ago. Guess maybe it was just the billybob machinists not getting their zero properly indexed. *shrug* Total bummer about the barrel.. possibly, he dropped the 14" in the mail? Or.. read this thread and had a change of heart! Try chatting up Pacnor and see if they will cut a barrel and extension for you in 16" poly. I however was informed by most benchrest shooters that poly rifling was prone to throwing or stringing. Perhaps it was just some hype about them pulling a shot. Though, I have also heard true poly barrels by HK tend to live forever... or close enough.

Thank you everyone. Oh, Survivalshop ... We just hit four pages and.. I am likely decided on a receiver set. So long as it remains in inventory. Hoping to hear good news tomorrow.
-
Yea. I just noticed. JSE is in SE missouri. I live about 50 miles west of columbia. Tomorrow on lunch I am calling them. Saturday, I may be making a retail store visit to pick up that mega ambi set. I have that much cash in my hand. Thank you all for the heads up. Hopefully, they do not sell out before Saturday.

survivalshop, thanks! It is more like... I work on commission pay to fix real world broken automobiles. We get payed 'by the book' on 'flagged hours'. So, when I decide to spend money.. I think about how many transmissions, differentials and engines I rebuild. Or.. How many frame swaps I do for a fleet line vehicle contract. Which, for simple ideas.. the one frame swap I am doing this week pays 35 hours of labor. Not 'simple' by any means. Comparatively.. a standard brake job pays 1.0 to 1.5 hours of labor. Think of it like this.. I am that really fat kid who got a nickel for his birthday, standing at the counter of the candy store. Stop rushing me damnit! If I want to mouthbreath a misty fog all over the glass counter... I will. The one I buy is the only one I get. So, it better be right. Hahahahahaha.. Jokes aside.. There is nothing much in stock. I do not mind the Mega. Just.. I am counting my pennies and thinking a lot about how to invest. I am part Jewish.. not really, but very frugal/thrifty/spendwise. The worst part is, a lot of those handguards get expensive. I want a long length tube with minimal weight. Them SLR ultra-lite tubes are $$$. Everything just takes money. =X

Thank you survivalshop!! Washguy, I tried calling - their phone service is bunk. I posted a link a bit up about another forum having a thread on those issues. apparently, a new owner is in place.. a lot of problems. I agree - they sure did look good. Who knows. I saw rainer was out, so was matrix, falkor is on backorder. almost everyone. Have yet to contact mega.. May have to try them in a few days. Seems like everything is sold off the shelves. Appreciate everyone's help and standing support. I am going to sit on my funds a few more weeks and see what becomes available.. or more likely what else sells out. That way, I can have a bigger option(or less choices and an easier pick). Falkor said two to three weeks before they are resupplied on the shelf. Matrix never returned my call. saltworks seems neat but.. I hear the new owner is waiting for FFL paperwork and struggling with all of the cluster-bombed mess he inherited. Allegedly the original clientele are being given priority and taken care of. That Aero unclemoak showed really was good looking. Only thing I would complain about - COLOR! *wink* I am not a flat earth fan. Olive wins with both hands down. HAHAHAHAHA, but seriously - it was a sharp looker. Well, I will leave it at what it is for a while.
-
right on. I think matrix is out of stock also? I checked their webpage.. dunno. What are some good flat side (non forward assist) receiver sets? I like the falkor but.. i mean.. it has some proprietary stuff and is pricey. Sure it is nice. dunno. My thing right now is actual worth versus investment. Is a 'pretty'(easily debated) ambi receiver set going to be worth the investment price? Yea.. It is good for the 45* safety and easy to use controls. Eh... I just want a quality, tight fight that is reasonable in cost that works well with the hiperfire trigger and blah blah blah. I am starting to look at costs like "important/necessary" and "lavish/excess" That aero carbine looks nice. I almost opted for the vltor tube/stock with the ar15 heavy buffer like slash recommends. Except.. issues of being in stock. Everything seems to be out of stock right now. driving the supply/demand chain. vicious

hey, unclemoak!! Nice rifle. Tell me more about your bolt carrier group. it is good for high pressure stuff? Really hot 168/175gr hollow points mainly. Also, why the fluted carrier?

I messaged a fellow named Modo on this forum. he has one. been using the search features.
-
So, what can you tell me about them? Did this Wash fellow take any more interest? The page does not even offer much of an insight about this company.
-
Anyone ever heard of this group? https://www.saltworksrifles.com/SWR-M5-Builder-Kit-p/50101.htm
-
They started as SI defense? I really like it.. just.. Hmm. the falkor requires the 45* safety. Who makes a good one, other than BAD?Is the HPerfire trigger any good? I like the carbine looks a lot.. just, are they all that good for stretching out? The optic I am intending to throw on is a 1-6power lens so.. I was leaning at the VCOG however, the mark 6 by leupold really has me thinking twice. Thank you everyone!

some more custom barrel manufacturers will broach polygonal style rifling.. but single point cutting is like a kreiger barrel. it does not mean 'one groove'. it means a single point was used to cut the entire pattern. which - i call malarkey. Unless that barrel is in the $500 range.. Would have to be one unique cutting bit.
-
I agree - looks good. However.. Aero m5's - out of stock most everywhere. I have not seen one in stock from the time i began looking to build. next runner up? Seems matrix is out of stock. CFA is wayside - now they have their own stuff as livefreearmory. Hmmm...
-
ok, so I have been watching the news and.. all the crazy people are getting to me. a lot. Was considering jumping on the matrix bandwagon.. BUT - central florida firearms is no more? They became live free armory. the receivers are claimed to be the same.. but now it says goofy stuff on the side, versus matrix. *shrug* Who can chime in on all this? The continuous media stream is making me worried about changes to the firearms law for us law abiding citizens.. because restricting us is going to fix the problem. -_- anyways.. I still really like the falkor defense, just.. It was a matter of 'hmm.. this is a bit cheaper'. though, i seem to know little about the change over. The gentleman i spoke with said they did some name change when moving locations, blah blah blah, they receive the upper/lower set in the white, degrease, sandblast then cerakote/bake. I am unsure.. The URL says matrix aerospace receivers on the livefreearmory.com page. What does everyone chime in as? My thoughts were simple - Maybe a compromise will be best.. Seeing as.. time is running short before all the crookback politicians midnight sign some malarkey..
-
is that not the truth... all the crazy business..

I guess it is time to change my tam-poon... Sorry guys, it was just that time of the month you see. Going to run a non-adjustable low-pro gas block with the xh 10oz heavy buffer. Going to throw the JP high pressure bolt carrier in. My build slot has really changed. Falkor 308 ambi receivers w/ 16" tranny handguard criterion hybrid contour 18" rifle gas nitride SS barrel tacops charge handle mecharmor back up sights MOE rifle stock trijicon vcog optic Should do the ticket. Agile enough to swing around reasonably with a high velocity for 800 yards hit/miss placement. Thank you everyone! oh yea... I much prefer the broiled steak over a padded brassiere, simply because - that extra thick material may retain sweat and cause rashes. The steak however is a nice protein boost during an all day run/gun affair.
-
Wait.. pre-op or post op? WOOOAH!! Needed that laugh before work. Have a great day guys.

So.. I emailed Falkor yesterday.. This morning, I had this email response: ------------------------- You shouldn't have to ever put a tensioning screw in our receivers but there is a threaded hole near the pistol grip if a guy wanted to. I'll tell you that our receiver sets are extremely tight... like stick together without pins in tight. We pride ourselves on holding that tolerance and you can expect that quality when you order our set. You can order in gray cerakote or black. We can have custom cerekote colors done as well but you'll have to call in to order something custom. Attached you will find HG dimensions for the 308 tranny. You can order the Tranny and set together but you'll have to call in and speak to someone to order. Yes you can make the money order out to Falkor Defense for the total that we'll discuss on the phone. We will need you to let us know the FFL you want us to ship it to and we'll contact them for a copy of their FFL paperwork. Let us know when you are ready to order and we'll get started on getting your parts ready.Thank you,Josh ClarkExecutive DirectorFalkor SID, Inc. ------------------------- I included the same file he sent me. Seems like it is a decent receiver set. Saving my money for one. Unsure if anyone else has this setup so far. Thinking that 16" tranny handguard with that 308 mirrored ambi receiver set. Oh, sorry for all the whiplash and "seasickness" to anyone whom may be suffering from my flitting desires! Thought I would share this to anyone else whom may be intrigued by this company. it seems to me.. the two heights are .150" and the other is .200 or .210"? The floating guards will be designated as 'high' or 'low' profile for dpms. midwest industries makes both. I think troy, jp and a bunch of the other 'big name' handguard producers will make in both patterns. NOW... asking me why dpms does different heights.. *shrug* Have no clue. It may have to do with some of the differences like direct impingement and rod driven operating system. **edit** As far as who sells them - a lot of people 'vend' those receiver sets.. just, it seems over the last few weeks almost everyone is showing 'out of stock'. mayhaps.. due to the loonies out there trying to be mass terrorists... passage of the sword.. *shrug* All I know is, firearm sales are at a record high.
-
Will keep in mind blue109. If I opt to not go Falkor.. May go matrix. Seems like the best bang for buck if not wanting to get all that 'wild' with the non-milspec billet lower. That tension detente seems nice. I know some people will slip thin pieces of soft plastic in their receiver to perform the same task. I bet it was exciting - that telephone build party. The rush, seeing who gets finished first and comparing results after everyone has a few range sessions. C= well, I am glad to see everyone here is so darn nice. Thank you, everyone - for the warm, almost smooshy feeling of less than razor's edge responses. Some places can be pretty hard to clique in. You all have been pretty alright!! Who cares what them poodle shooter .22 crowdspeople are saying...
-
True! Seems like the matrix blemish set is almost the way to go. Heck, two cans of cerakote rattle paint.. *whistle* Lemme wait a few more days, then find out more from Falkor about this bad thing. ... Back to tuna with granola bars spread out by some mac and cheese...
-
Nice barrel, survivalshop! Funny story.. Josh from CBI left me voicemail today because I called yesterday asking about information!
-
Thank you for the support, shepp! Way to shove me more into that fire.. Like I needed any more prodding. I am unsure if it has any way to 'tighten' the lockup of that take down pin, like the matrix and mega do however. I really think I want the falkor.. Just - I like money as much as toys. =C
