Thanks for the reloading info on 175 gr SMK bullets - what muzzle velocity are you getting from your 16" barrel? I've got a box of 500 (175 SMK) that I was going to reload for a 308. Since my 300 BLK AR is 10" barrel, not sure if 175 gr bullet will be of much use (e.g., too big for supersonic and too small for sub)?... (just talking out loud :).

Definitely need to look some more at those slings! Their On Point slings look really great to use with this type of firearm...

Finally got my 300 BLK pistol from a local dealer. Appears to be mostly Aero Precision parts (upper/lower) and not sure who makes the barrel (could be Aero). I keep on looking at it and wondering if it needs another cleaning :^) 10" barrel with 1:7 twist, Magpul MBUS and grip, and weighs about 5.9 lbs. Will eventually get a suppressor and red-dot scope (most likely a Trijicon MRO that is on another rifle). Also, I want to get some unique, different-looking mags for it so I won't mix up 5.56 and 300 BLK One feature I didn't know that the Aero lower had is a Tension Screw. Not sure I've set it up correctly, but there's very little play between the upper and lower (and I can still take out the pin). Hope to take it out this weekend!

I don't claim to know everything that happened in the Philippines, but they were having to put up with weird stuff from the Obama administration. Kicking the US out... I could only image. As for another caliber - I like reading what you guys bring up.

Thanks for all the great info - I'm feeling a little embarrassed for not actually seeing the 300 Blk forum There's a whole new world at the top of the forum hierarchy! The pistol looks like a reasonable choice to start with, then change the lower (if it's legal - someday)... I'll be reading the 300 blk forum soon :^)

I'm new here (about a month or two ago anyway); the new messages come at a pace I can handle, so I try to keep up with new posts. I'd like to build a 300 AAC AR-type rifle but need suggestions on where to start. Usage would be home/property self-defense (SHTF) so I hope it only gets target practice a couple times per year. Here are a list of questions that I would like more info on: I'm thinking a short barrel rifle, but I have no idea on how short... 8-, 10-, 12-inch? Is there a compelling reason to pick one of these lengths in 300 AAC? Hopefully the SBR tax /stamp/whatever will go away someday soon; otherwise, I'm stuck with 16-inch. What barrel twist rate? Will probably keep both super- and sub-sonic loads available, with preference for sub-sonic. Looking at Aero Precision upper and lower pair since they advertise here - does anyone have anything to add to that? Suggestions on sound-suppressor? (Another wait-and-see item) I should probably be asking more questions but can't think of any more. Thanks in advance! Scott

Plenty of sheepherders in Nevada - I'm guessing they're mostly Basque settlers... most of the northern Nevada cities have Basque restaurants that are a great experience (including their dinner wine that comes with the meal).

DNC - we could start up "Cameraholics Anonymous"! Hi, my name is Scott and I'm a cameraholic... I really feel for Californians - perhaps we can get help from the current administration to weed out the corrupt and illegal voting both there and in Nevada, but I digress into a topic that could lead to a lot of discussion that would be better in another place (and by people more savvy than me). The sickness: That's one reason I didn't go the full frame route (at least for now) - the "disposable" income wouldn't accommodate both cameras and guns. But, for sure, the disease is waiting to rear it's golden head! All of that aside, you know you have an Excellent Wife when she values the things she does! God bless her (and my wife too)!

BTW - my only child is 13, but 2-yr-old pictures are the best! Pull that camera out and you'll enjoy those pictures for the rest of your life!

You're a little deeper into the equipment than me, but a Christmas gift of a Gary Fong flash diffuser and some family activities brought some new life into that blatantly expensive hobby. I'm into the cropped frame Nikon side of the addiction (d7000) so things are a "little" less expensive (ok, a lot less expensive!). Seriously looking at the D500 Kit because of the deep discount on the 16-80 lens... We need to combine guns and photography to be really satisfied :^)

It used to be filled with lens envy, pixel peeping, and endless online discussions, but firearms overtook nearly all resources over the last 8 years (as you can imagine why). Now the DSLR body envy is gaining force that is difficult to resist because of all the new technology that blows away current equipment. Perhaps the only real cure is to make my own beer (not quite there yet)! Do I feel empathy and understanding from your question? :^)

That's the bulk of my fermentation too - mostly sauerkraut variations, kvass, pickles, a few other odds and ends, plus kombucha (my daughter just started kefir). Lacto-fermentation is really making a come-back. Gotta get me one of those mashers!... Good point about too many good brews readily available, but I'll eventually make some anyway. Looking forward to reading a bunch about putting a 308 AR together; there's a lot to learn! I've "assembled" a couple AR15s over the last few years - not that it's rocket science - youtube helped me a lot. My greatest speed is just above glacial, so I'm not really expecting to start anything for a few months (saving up before buying is a lot less stressful). Hobbies include reading about/making fermented food/drink, photography, and shooting. Thanks!
