  1. Have a standard M1A which shoots the iron sights great out to the 400 yard range, about the limit of my ability see way the hell out there. now the SOCOM isn't much good to me past 100 yards. The front is almost like having your thumb out and sighting something in. That front blade is just to damn fat. Really kinda disappointed Springfield Armory doesn't offer an alternative set of sights. Putting any type of optic on that forward rail is awkward. Recoil on the SOCOM is really soft, easy to re-acquire the target after each round. The rifle is fun to bang away with, but not much past the 100 yards. Rifle is pricey for range limits it has in my opinion. But, what are ya gonna do.
  2. Had the required bolt action 308's. Had a heavy barrel Savage Model 10 and the Remington model. Never could shoot it the way it was intended. The great sub MOA groups never happened. So if figured I should have fun shootin a 308. Sold the bolt actions at the Crossroads of the West Gunshows and then got the semi autos. First was the M1A 308. Have the standard and a SOCOM. Fun to shoot and do pretty good exclusively with iron sights. Felt and tasted the Daniels Defense DD5's , the DPMS Gen2 and so forth at CABELAS. Daniels Defense felt sweet, but I had the guy at the range whip out his new DD5 and proceed to click, click, click on his first attempts to shoot the thing. I am sure he did not clean or lube the BCG or any other part of the rifle. So anyway, I got cheapest one I could find, which was the PSA version of the AR in the 308. So after 1500 rounds of mostly surplus Hirtenberger 308 with zero misfires, zero fail to fire, zero failure to feed I find the PSA to be a good deal. All the rounds through the PSA AR in the 308 have been iron sights, if Magpul flip ups count as iron. Today I got the Vortex something or the other in the 6.5-20x44 size. Will see what kind of special groups I can produce with this optic and rifle. After shooting a 308 AR a .556 just really feels paltry at best. But with 20,000 rds of 556, 223, and 5.45(for AR) I guess I'll still shoot them.
  3. Never met a blemished PSA part I didn't like. For that matter I never met an Adams Arms blem I didn't like.
  4. Have a $219 blem lower from PSA. Then a 18" melonite upper from PSA $549. Doing the math that is $770 pretty much. Have some Magpul flip ups front and back. 200 yards I can put 18 of 20 rounds from a box in the 9 ring on a 200 yard standard military target. Pretty good for a guy wearing glasses to put the sights in focus and using surplus Hirtenberger 7.62x51 ammo. 1500 rounds with no failures. I was looking to buy a AR-10 for few months to go along with my M-1a. Was at the range few months ago and the guy next to me pulled out his brand spanking new Daniels Defense DD5. He loaded up and aimed down range. "Click" rack, "click" rack "click" after a few minutes of muttering he packed up his $3000 AR-10 and left. That did it for me, I was going cheap. If I wanted a $3000 or $5000 AR-10 that is what I would buy. I went cheap and I am not disappointed. I did put a Daniels Defense stock and a Magpul grip on the PSA. Now to the untrained eye, other shooters may believe I have a Daniels Defense DD5 rather than the scorned $770 PSA AR-10. Believe it or not, choosing between the M1a and the PSA AR-10 to shoot ain't easy. Both are funner than hell.
