Since the scope in question is a vortex......I stand corrected. I guess the best thing to do is call the scope manufacturer for your particular scope and find out.
I've got some cheapo scopes. I'll try it with one of them. I'm still hesitant to put anything high end in the oven. I've asked some applicators about it and the response was the same. "I can do it but I'm not responsible for your scope."
Anyone else build one of these out yet. I've got about 600 rounds through mine with no issues. Just wanted to see if anyone has taken one past its limits yet.
Still have the leupold and I sold the razor after I got it back from vortex. Both companies have really good customer service. Leupold fixed the same scope twice. Scar 17 ate it 2 times so I switched to the razor.... when the razor wouldn't hold a zero anymore I realized it was the gun eating the scopes.
I like long distance shooting. Not really a group fiend so I don't take too many hole pics...not that kind of hole anyway. I didn't see a ladysniff thread on here so I won't post those.
The scar ate a razor hd and a leupold mark 4. After my experience with the lar8 and the scar I just started to build my own.
Yup... the pof revolution is a bad mamajama. They claim the 10.5" sbr weighs only 6.1 lbs piston and all. I guess I'll have to wait for them to come out with a small frame 80 before I can build one. Someone is making stand alone barrel extensions for the g2 so its coming.
The optic was tight. It was a Nightforce nsx with a jp mount. I know it wasn't a an issue with the scope because I use it to shoot 4" clays at 600 yds with a 223 and it's pretty hard to mess up mounting a scope with a jp scope mount. I thought it might be the shooter so I had 2 friends shoot it on a sled. One a better shooter than I am. He was a coast guard sharp shooter and they both got the same results I did. That was using both federal gold metal match 168 and 175. We came to the conclusion that this gun is just a dog. The match grade ammo showed absolutely 0 improvement over $9.99 a box Winchester 147 gr plinking ammo. The gun had a sticker on it that said not to use magtech ammo so we stayed away from it.
Almost 9 pound trigger pull with the standard rra trigger but the geissele didn't help it either. Not sure I want to spend any more on this gun. I understand it is not a precision rifle but this one is just plain sad.
I've shot everything from match grade sierra 175 and 168 down to cheap Winchester 147 gr. My century arms AK gets better groups with Tula ammo than this thing gets with match grade. Even put a good optic and trigger on it. No improvement at all. Its kind of an oddball gun weighs about 9 pounds and still kicks like a mule. Gave my wife a Nightforce ring around the eye. Gun has so many issues I never thought of replacing the barrel with another rra barrel. Seemed strange to me. I have an rra .223 upper on a gun that shoots lights out but this one is a total dog. The 223 rra got the nightforce and the Geisselie trigger and this one sits in the safe.
Like a dingo in a nursery. 1 leupold mark 4 twice and 1 vortex razor hd once. The turrets would just stop working on the leupold and the razor got to the point where it wouldn't hold its zero. It now sits with an eotech on it. Both companies have great customer service and fixed them but I'm lost as to what to put on it. Thinking maybe an swfa 3x15 ffp. They claim to be rated for 50 cal.
Anyone have any ideas on how to make these more accurate. I bought mine when I didn't really know much about 308 ARs. This one can't hit the broad side of a barn. 3 MOA all day long. Its my understanding you can't rebarrel it due to the FAL mag setup. I've never taken it apart but I hear the barrel extension is "FAL like". This thing has been taking up space in my safe for 5 years and is probably most effective if used as a club.
Thanx. Smaller, lighter, and out shoots my scar 17 by a mile....and it doesn't eat scopes. We'll see how the warrhogg lower holds up. Its got about 600 rounds through it with no issues so far.
A big howdy how y'all to everyone.
Exactly....pof not dpms gen 2. Dpms g2 has a special barrel extension that will not fit a regular 308 ar barrel. Pof may also have a shorter extension but I haven't found out yet so I'm looking for info on the subject. Just what we need....more stuff to cloud compatibility issues in the 308 ar world. FYI Adams arms makes one you can get for about 1500 bux. Piston driven too.
Does anyone know if there are any small frame .308 upper / 80 lower combos out there? Seen a few new .308 rifles that use a standard .223 ar 15 bolt carrier but would like to make one for myself.
Hoping to learn a lot. There seems to be lots of very knowledgeable folks on here. I've built a ton of smaller frame rifles but I'm kind of a newb to the large frame platform. I've built a few of them but they are all simple. All of my large frame builds so far have Dpms compatible upper and lower with jp drive trains. I would like to learn about other brands and components.
