  1. Hi everyone. I hope all is well. Strange times, dealing with Covid19 and having a life. My social deprivation has me building a 12.5" 308. I'm not sure which way I will go, Pistol, SBR, or Other. My 18", AR308 build went very well. Thanks to those who assisted me along the way. You know who you are. 😉 So basically, at the moment, I am building the upper only. The upper is going to be APM5. I am building from the KAK 308 WIN 12.5 INCH CARBINE STAINLESS BARREL, up. I still need to get the upper receiver, Adj GB, HG, Bolt, Gas Tube, etc-etc. Things are a little tight for me this time of year, but I will get there. I am hopeful with your wisdom, this build will be as flawless as my rifle build.
  2. I'm fine with that. I wanted something mainly to cycle the components, good to 3-400yds or so. There's plenty of surplus in Berdan Primed, but I'm not willing to mess with it. On the cheap, Boxer Primed, 80's vintage will do.
  3. 60 rounds down range. She runs like a well oiled sewing machine. 500 rounds of Hirtenberger (for break-in) on the way. Gotta save the good stuff for special occasions.
  4. Initial run, I tried wide open on the GB. Result was short stroke. Looks like I forgot to mention that. After opening it up, now it runs as it should.
  5. I never measured the barrel port. I went based on port size of the GB itself, and what should be happening (eject/load to battery). The BCG was traveling half what was needed. Given that and the GB was full open, and the fact the gas tube port was already larger than the port of the GB, drilling it out to 1/8 kept the flow significantly under. It works. After, I opened the GB to #5. It fired, but FTE. Opened to #7, all is well.
  6. Based on specs in the FAQ, port size should be close to 0.0960 I punched it out to 1/8". Will test at next opportunity. Still way smaller the the Adj GB.
  7. Yesterday was my first opportunity to get out to the range with my build. After a good coating of lube. I sent a Fed SMK down range, and was surprised. Very tame recoil. I attempted to send a second, and nothing. First shot, casing failed to eject. Thinking, new rifle, it's bound to have a quirk or too. I cleared the port, drove another home and fired. Same thing again, failed to eject. I figured things were tight tolerances, and dealt with what was happening. I fired 20 rounds, all FTE. I loaded a fresh mag and continued on. All 20 rounds (again) FTE. I thought about issues and causes. Considering I used the Armalite receiver extension, spring and buffer, and RL gas tube, I felt confident that was not the issue. I immediately considered the issue to be the SLR RW Sentry 8. I adjusted from all the way closed and the bolt would not cycle, (I expected that) to 15 clicks all the way open. It made no difference. All I could get by adjusting was short-stroking. At that point I decided it had to be one of two things causing it. The gas block is faulty, or the gas port in the WC barrel is too small. Guessing, my bet is on the latter. The rifle shot great, otherwise, but I was very frustrated. I still am. BTW, I read through several threads 98Z5V in the FAQ, to see if I missed anything obvious during my build. I did not. So my conclusion is I need to check gas gas port size, and adjust the opening accordingly. Honestly, I thought this build was going to be problem free, short of breaking it in. I plan to do some checking. I'll post my findings.
  8. I'm more fantasizing a trip to Texas, hog hunting from a helicopter. Rifle supported, 50rnds of knee dropping WHOMP. Spendy, but hell O fun. A Benelli Super 90, 3" slugs would also make the hogs bow.
  9. DOH!! That it does. I'll wait. Impatiently.
  10. Are they released yet? I'm not finding them in stock anywhere.
  11. For what they are, $60 for a throwlever, that I feel should be included with purchase of a new scope, instead everyone buys them. I found this one on ebay. $29. It's so close to the same style as Vortex, I figure it was worth trying one on my PST 6-24×50. It fills the need for $30 less, and is of good quality https://www.amazon.com/Lone-Star-Precision-Magnification-Adjustment/dp/B06XJYMRV6
  12. I went the MI-308SS15-DHM Thanks for the input everyone.
  13. Happy New Year to ME. Now I'm chasing tail of a 6.5G
  14. Good suggestion. Lighter too. I will look into them.
  15. I was leaning towards NO. As I was trying to read more into it, I was getting more and more confused. Thanks for clearing that up!!
  16. I can't seem to find any specifics. Does anyone know if this hand guard will fit the AP M5 upper?
  17. I added some battle worn in-service wear to the originals. Easy fix if it's not what I want.
  18. The SS Bolt catch, I also want. Which I did not mention in my OP. For reference, the Pivot Pin (shaft length) is 1-5/8" The Take-Down Pin (shaft length) is 1-1/16" The pins I've managed to find reference "extended" for length. I'm not finding measurements listed for said items anywhere. Thanks to all who've replied thus far. Keep the ideas coming!
  19. I doubt I would have stumble onto this. This is the type of niche info I'm searching for. Thanks.
  20. Not an option. I'm looking for stainless.
  21. Hey everyone. I'm hoping the group here can help me find some lower parts. I'm wanting the parts in Satin (no shine) Stainless for accent. I don't know where the best places are to find what I need, so if you can suggest specific places to look, I'd appreciate the help. I'm wanting to find the following in Satin Stainless. Take-Down Pins (For the Aero Precision M5E1) Extended mag Release Button Safety (Complete. No Ambi) Hand Guard Torx Screws (For the AP M5E1 Enhanced (8)) (I don't want to mix Titanium in with Stainless Steel because of the difference in color)
  22. I stopped by a gun shop where they usually have consignments. On the counter there was a rifle laying on a carrier, that a gentlemen was leaving. This is the carrier he had. For $50ea, and free shipping, I ordered two of them
  23. Thanks for the suggestion, BTW!
  24. You know, I just watched that video. Well, some of it. Sootch has a way of making what should be a short story a series. I think I fell asleep. LOL
