  1. Been a while since I posted about my build I had a chance to load some up and start fine tuning a load for it. I'm really liking the Faxon barrel. These were 168 gr Sierra Match over IMR 4064 on a very windy day @ 100 yds. 2nd photo is using BL-C2 and those worked well too. The last photo is of Barnes 155 gr MatchBurner. This rifle does not appear to like the Barnes bullet! I was aiming at the diamond same as the rest and you can see how far off they were! I'll work on the Sierras and see how tight it will get. I'm thinking I'll get sub MOA with this barrel.

    Success!

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the nice comments about the rifle. I really would not have been successful without the knowledge on this forum. I had no idea parts were not standardized as an AR15 is, I had to order other parts to replace ones I had that would not have worked. I had a good time putting this together, they're addictive! I'm in the process of working up more loads, going to see how much I can tighten up the group. Probably get to the range later this week depending on weather.

    Success!

Built a sweet shooting AR308. Thanks to the members here who have posted a wealth of knowledge, would not had the success I did without you. Specs: * 5D 80% lower and matching upper * Barrel is a Faxon Match Series, 20" heavy Flute, rifle length * VG6 Gamma 762 Brake * Odin Works BCG * LaRue MBT-2S Trigger * Aero Carbine Buffer Kit * Expo Arms Heavy Buffer * YH gas block * Correct Rifle Length Tube! * Vortex 4x12 Scope This thing performed excellent right from the first round. No problems chambering, ejecting, locking back on empty mag. Not sure exactly where the spent cases were landing as the bench had a shield but looks like 2-3 'o clock. Recoil is soft with almost no rise, basically straight back. I have a VG6 brake on an AR15 that works just like that so I'm a fan of VG6 brakes. I had some home rolled rounds, just guessed on the charge, took the middle road and loaded 50 rounds with 43 gr of IMR 4064. I'm very impressed how clean this powder burns. Ran those 50 through plus 20 factory loads and really didn't need to be cleaned. The target below is of the last 5 rounds, they're Sierra 168 gr Matchkings in front of 43 gr 4064. I'm sure the flyers are me but overall not bad. I think this will be a sub MOA rifle. All in all, I am very happy camper!
  6. Got my .308 Go-NoGo gages from Brownells today, got the correct rifle length tubes yesterday. Have the trigger on the way and due tomorrow from Larue s II should have everything to commence the build!
  7. Thanks for the tip. I called and Juan is the man! I have a couple of the correct gas tubes on the way.
  8. Be prepared for a long wait. I ordered one the end of January and it's supposed to ship in a couple of weeks. Maybe.
  9. Engines rooms for me. And motorcycles. And Rock N Roll!
  10. I looked on the website. I'll give them a call and see what they say, thanks. I'll check the others too. Appreciate the response.
  11. Houston, we have a problem. I did a quick test fit of the gas tube and found out 1- the Faxon barrel appears to be the correct rifle gas length and 2 - the YHM "rifle" length tube is short. Armalite has their gas tube as backorder, does anyone know who might have the correct length tube in stock?
  12. Thanks for this! Lot of good info, learned a lot just in the first paragraph! Question about gas tube length. I saw another picture somewhere on this site showing where the end of the tube lands about 1/4 vs the 1/2 you show in here. How critical is that 1/8"? Will the shorter length work with heavy bullets and short cycle with lighter ones?
  13. OK, so to sum up I was asking if parts I had on hand would cause a problem. Thanks to all who pointed out I needed a heavy buffer which I now have on hand. I am wondering why Aero would sell a kit marketed for a 308AR and have a buffer that is too light. Oh well, the light buffer won't go to waste as I have a couple of future AR15 builds to do. Again, thanks to all who answered.
  14. Thanks!
  15. I was afraid of that.
