  1. I finally have the rest of the parts needed to start building my lower receiver. However I don't have any armorer's tools. I expected to need to purchase a vise with upper/lower blocks, armorer's wrench, punch set, and a torque wrench. Can I get away without a lower vise block? How would you torque down the buffer tube without the lower in a block? Above quote is just my parts list. Buffer kit swapped with Armalite buffer kit. This is my first build so I'm trying to stay light on tools in case I discover that building rifles isn't for me. I doubt that's the way it'll go, but I don't want to overextend.
  2. AP also has a labor day sale.

  4. I only wish there was a way to reverse this thread to have newest post on the top.
  5. Nice find Tack!

  8. I thought it might be helpful to post stock updates here.
  9. Thanks for all the feedback! I greatly appreciate it. I forgot to mention that I do plan on putting a sling on it. I don't think that really changes anything. Unless I misunderstood the parts already have sling mounts. Next I have to look into optics.
  10. It's $5 cheaper too!
  11. An Armalite Kit is compatible? I though AR-10 products are a no-go on dpms high pattern?
  12. Part of this doesn't display as intended on mobile. The italicized text is supposed to be together.
  13. I've spent the past few weeks reading up everything, and this is what I have so far. This is tentative. Naturally things may be substituted as things come in stock or go on sale. This is my first rifle build, so any input is great. Purpose is primarily hunting SC game. I would like stay under 2k including optics. Thanks! 14. Hello from SC. This looks like a nice build. Similar to what I'm hoping for. I'm a novice so this may be a dumb question, but what made you pick a 15" handguard? I saw that Aero has 12" ones which threw me for a loop. After trying to dig up information yesterday, I'm still no closer to understanding what difference it makes. Presumably for SBRs? Also hoping you're still poking about the forum to tell me 2 years later.
  15. Is their any time to spend 3k on an air rifle?
  16. My twin and I were the youngest and life events that occurred forced me to grow up a little faster.
  17. I'm one of the kids, and I find diesel stacks perplexing. What does that say about me....
  18. This is awesome insight! Thanks so much. I have to add that I've never understood the bright colors that get put on some of these rifles. Looks awesome, but incredibly impractical.
  19. I've got my first question to deliver to the experts. I'm planning my first 308 AR (yes I know it's a bad time for it) and I have read differing opinions on cerakote and anodized. Which best protects the rifle in a hunting situation? Is anodized sufficient or is cerakote worth the extra $20-$30? Is it better to buy it already coated or to have it coated by another party? Lastly, are there other coatings I should be considering? Note: This is not in context of diy. I don't want to get into coating my own receivers. Thanks guys!
  20. So it was a part of the JROTC program. All I remember about the actual air rifles is that they had the circle-in-circle iron sights, the canisters of compressed air loaded into the stock, and we shot little lead pellets. I believe it was 20-30 yards with the target about the size of a quarter. In a match you shoot in prone, kneeling, and standing. 10 shots each, receiving 0-10 points per shot. The action of shooting wasn't particularly fun, but seeing the improvement in your marksmanship was. It was tough though. To be competitive you had to shoot a perfect prone, and atleast a mostly perfect kneeling. I wish everyone would do it. It was excellent for teaching how to handle a firearm and how to shoot one.
  21. Well I had an AM-15 from Anderson Manufacturing. I sold it and bought the handgun because my wife didn't feel like she could use it effectively if she needed to. So I would want a rifle to be viable for hunting SC game and defense generally. I shoot lefty so I would rather have something on the AR platform instead of say a bolt action. As for the building issue, I have no illusions about the state of firearms and ammo in our current political climate. I expect it to take a year or longer just to purchase parts.
  22. One could say I grew up behind the curve. I grew up playing SNES and watching 80s movies. I have what I like to call a healthy appreciation of Mr. T.
  23. My name is Joshua, from upstate SC. I'm 23 and certainly a novice in the world of rifles, with basically only a year of competition shooting air rifles in high school. I'm here because my wife and I are expecting a child, and it's time to step up my game! The M&P Shield in the night stand is no longer adequate! I'm interested in building an AR 308, and I'm ready to learn!
