I've been reloading 7.62 brass and found that using a standard sizing die doesn't work for my gas gun. I do check the cases with a Lyman case gauge and they check out. A SB sizing die does work the brass a bit more than a standard sizing die, giving that 7.62 brass has a thicker wall, I doubt this should cause a problem. I have seen a 308ar SB sizing die offered, but states not for use with bolt action firearms. My question is why, does the AR sizing die work the case too much? I don't want to invest in both an 308 SB sizing die and 308ar SB sizing die. Anyone know the difference between the two sizing die types, if there is any.

Had another delivery of 5# powder and a brass catcher for the gas guns on Tuesday. $925 for both orders combined. Retired, no mortgage, no car payments, leaves more $$$ to spend on my hobby.

Not on order, this arrived today. Now I can get to reloading and have some ammo for the range. They didn't have 308 small base dies in stock so the LC 7.62 brass will have to wait for later.

Runs my reloaded. 308s just fine, wouldn't cycle the reloaded 7.62X51 rounds. I bought a box of factory loads today and will see what happens Saturday.

Only have one .308 semi, didn't weigh it stock from factory, web site claims 5.9 lbs. In the photo it's 8.6 lbs with full mag and the 2-7X32 scope.

My 1st safe filled rather fast after starting to accumulate semi-autos. Having the room, bought a larger one last year and had it delivered. In hindsight, I should have spent the $$ on a taller safe the Barrett is still in great nephew's safe.

Having AR-15s for a while, fun to shoot, decided to step up to the .308 platform. Purchased a factory built one a few months ago. 1st time at the range it wouldn't cycle 7.62X51 reloads, but ran .308 ones just fine. Looking into the problem now. Wanting to build my own, but after reading a few articles on here, they aren't as simple a build as the 15s. Hopefully, by this time next year, I'll be testing my .308 build.

Primers! Primers! Primers! Especially small rifle primers, I'm totally out, have the brass, bullets and powder.

@jtallen83My reload recipe is as follows: 7.62X51 LC brass, Winchester LRP, Hornaday 150 FMJBT, 42.5 gr. VARGET, C.O.L 2.695" this should push around 2600fps. The .308, which cycled fine, mixed headstamps, Winchester LRP, Hornaday 150 FMJBT, 44 gr. IMR 4895, C.O.L 2 698" primarily used in my 110 Tactical bolt rifle. Never fired steel case ammo, the range sells it, but you can't fire it there. As shooterrex suggested maybe have the chamber redone with a 7.62 reamer? @AlbroswiftI agree, military brass is sometimes a PITA to resize. 5.56 NATO was troublesome until purchasing a carbide die set, I still lube the cases before sizing though. I have standard .308 dies, probably need to invest in a carbide set, down the road.

This forum came up when I was doing a search for .308 rifle barrels. Checked a few articles and reading some of the responses, decided to become a member. So far I'm enjoying the adventure.

Thanks for all the replies, since my initial post I've been surfing the forum, lots of info to be read. @shooterrexI trimmed all the 7.62 brass to 2.006" same as the .308 brass, after running them through the sizing dies. Some of the 7.62 were sized twice. I believe the brass was fired from MGs which made sizing difficult. BTW, I'm in Cowtown, Ohio. Lol!

I've only been on one other forum, invertebrates, which I rarely participate anymore. I little about myself, Vietnam veteran, served in both U.S.M.C. and U.S.Navy, avid shooter, retired, and been reloading 40+ years. I've been around firearms my entire life starting at age 8, hunting rabbit and pheasant with my father and his brothers using a 20 gauge single shot. I recently gotten into the AR-10 platform with my first purchase 2 months ago, a POF Rogue in .308, it's okay but can't cycle reloaded 7.62X51 LC ammo a little disappointed by that. In the future I'd like to build one that is capable of cycling 7.62 since I have several hundred cases sitting in a bucket just waiting.
