  1. The gentle reminder to not be so slow has sparked me back to the range. I am glad to report that all of the advice and help has yielded me a very functional rifle. No more tuning was needed. Fired 7.62 and 308 from various manufacturers with no failures. I was more than impressed, didn’t even realize just how much a little machining could do. I am very grateful to everyone who helped me. Thank you all very much. The next one will be DPMS upper and M5 lower that was a salvage.
  2. Sorry that I am old and slow, so finally took the M5 build to the range and once again 98Z5V was spot on. Just couldn’t get enough gas though it took lock back on empty mag, didn’t even make it to cycling a magazine. I took the adjustable block off and machined it to .096, dropped the buffer to 5.1 oz. When I get off my you know what, get back to range and try, try,try again. Thanks again for the knowledge.
  3. Thanks everyone for the wisdom and good to go replies, off to the store
  4. Oooh that is very nice, good job
  5. Good day everyone, does anyone have anything to say about the Aero Precision phosphate 308, 6.5 bolt carrier group? It appears to have the rounded ejector, high pressure bolt and firing pin, etc. Looking for any issues or complaints with it, or any good feelings too, thanks everyone.
  6. Wow, that ended up being a lot longer than I thought it would take, but here is the finished product. I really do not want to go to an indoor range, but the weather is just not working out. So it used the Armalite rifle tube to get right in the center of the cutout, orange spring, Aero tube, and 5.4OZ buffer. So want to go shooting and see how it runs. Thanks everyone for the guidance and for 98Z5V pointing out what I had so that I did not scrap the upper. If everything works out, a scope may be in the future for it.
  7. I had plenty of the 5.56 while I served my time, and enjoyed every minute of it. But the M60 was my favorite, I wish i could have one of those. But when I was young my father and me enjoyed many outings hunting for elk and mule deer, our favorite was the .308 and .270, so this was my kind of longing for good times and my military times all rolled into one past time. And now my son is also getting hooked on the big boys, so more quality time.
  8. Thanks for the info. I might look into the “gift card” idea that might not be able to be tracked very easily
  9. I didn’t know that he had even made a book, or really even discussed his service time. Was also sad to hear about his passing. Had to find out from my daughter who was close to him. Strange how small the world seems at times. RIP and God bless him.
  10. Ok, sad to hear Pay Pal does that, I have never had any problems or issues, my Cabela’s and Bass Pro cards have treated me well. If I could I would definitely pay cash, if I’m buying local or even in a surrounding state most times I will. So I too being fully aged LOL, with appropriate equipment, still are curious about being safe from Big Brother alternatives. Brainstorm
  11. Ok, that seems reasonable, but not very much fun, sometimes you just need a tiny little project to keep you entertained.
  12. Does anyone think that using PayPal may be a way around the new track and trace concerns with credit cards or back to old times cash or money orders? Western Union used to be a thing, but I don't think so anymore. All of this government intrusion into everything you do is starting to become very worrisome, or I may be old and paranoid. LOL
  13. Oops, just realized that I put this in the wrong area, sorry
  14. Just out of curiosity has anyone ever tried to take the square ejector and make it into the round type or at least removed the edge enough to make a functional item? Maybe this is a bit crazy, just something that seems like it would be possible. Could be a really bad idea.
  15. Ok, just checked all three of my buffer tubes and thank goodness all of them are just under 7" . Really very close to the magic 6 and 15/16. At least with my poor Dewalt tape measure (seen some better days) There may be a chance that I'm reading way too much stuff and getting a little freaked at times.
