Wraith3100 Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 Hello all, I'm new to forum and wanted to see if anyone here knows of any company making a 18" barrel using a carbine length hand guard and gas set up? I want it cause I want my rifle to be different. I'm not worried about dwell time since I will never be shooting full auto or anything crazy.
FaRKle! Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 DPMS 18", carbine-gassed barrel. That said, a carbine vs longer gas system will have a noticeable effect on felt recoil. It'll also wear more harshly on the bolt lugs. If you just want to be different with a short handguard, why not just get a short free float rail? Sacrificing handling dynamics and reliability for cosmetics isn't really my preference though.
blue109 Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 might be awkward on a bipod....certainly uncomfortable shooting standing up.
392heminut Posted November 20, 2014 Report Posted November 20, 2014 That is the barrel my rifle came with. That sucker is heavy! I had a machinist friend of mine turn mine down to .745 in front of the gas block and thread the muzzle and I re-parkerized it. It did make a difference. Those barrels use a .936 gas block and the barrel is about .930 from the gas block to the muzzle. The section behind the gas block is over 1" in diameter.
