I don't understand the use of the term "suspended fire" in the article.  I'm assuming they mean extended or continuous or fully automatic fire.  Also hard to figure why you might build a rifle that fires full automatic, then say it shouldn't be used full automatic.

Where is Henry Gibson ("Laugh-In") when you need him?   Nazi helmet....."Vellly interesting...."

 Did they add this " Tin Cover " in the field , was it tested with it for field trials ?

    They are correct that sustained full auto will heat up any barrel , same problem with the early M16 & its pencil BBL.,  its why the MG 44 & many other SAW 's have a changeable barrel . Burst fire was always taught in firing the select fire M 16 , just wasn't adhered to in combat ( like someone expected anyone to do so) . A heavier Barrel would have given better results then & probably with the G36 ,as a heavier barrel has been changed on the latest version of the m4 for this reason.

The article I quoted above may be a little shaky.....  They are saying the polymer composite barrel holder (whatever the hell that is) causes the problem.  They also say that it starts to soften at 23 degrees celsius....which is about 74 degrees Fahrenheit, I think.  That sounds wrong.  And they claim 50 cm of impact change after 60 rounds of ammo, at 200 meters, which is about 20 inches, give or take.  That's a lot.

You'd think somebody along the way might have realized mounting a barrel in "plastic" just ain't a good idea.  I'm a long way from an expert, but I'm comparing this to the questions and answers and comments I've seen here about barrels, barrel nuts, different uppers, fitment, barrel nut lubes, etc. etc.  Maybe the kraut procurement guys should have been reading this forum........

  The article reads , HK said they troops in the field were adding a cover that was not on the procured & field tested rifle & that was the reason for the extra heat that was altering the Plastic Barrel holder .

 60 rounds , that would have shown up on trials & not only theirs , a lot of others are in the field all over . Makes you wonder .

Damn articles raise questions they don't answer.  New rules!  The courts, the krauts and H-K all have to begin playing by our forum rules.  Pics or it didn't happen!    I'd like to see close up photos of the parts in question, just for funs.
