DMK
Paying $300 for a quad rail and then buying special tools to be able to change it seems crazy to me. Has anyone had DPMS install the one they sell (About $189??)? Who makes it? I’m wondering how much additional they would charge if I just send them my 308 AP4 upper and had them change it.I’m thinking I could sell my rifle and buy a new one with the rail for less than this project will cost. (If I could find a new one with the quad of course.)
imschur
Personally I wouldnt go directly to DPMS for anything unless your a very patient person. I have not heard of anyone going to dpms for this. The DPMS is proprietary and relatively new in it's current configuration. Not sure if they manufacture it themselves or farm it out. You wont find the exact one under a different brand name.If your stuck on having them do it be certain you have the part in hand to send with the weapon. If you plan on sending the weapon and having them pluck a quad rail from the shelf for installation you will be setting yourself up for frustration.I like DPMS products as long as I can buy them elsewhere. They make things in long runs with focus on military contracts and such. Weapons and parts for consumers trickle out steady but slow.I know this isnt what you want to hear.An alternative plan would be get the rail and go to someone else who does custom work. Im thinking maybe ADCO. Probably worth a call.
survivalshop
Find a gunsmith that does this kind of work & buy the rail you want & take them to him or send it some one to do it .You will find it is a very straight forward procedure to do your self , if you want to take on some thing like that .Having the special tools to install one your self ,means that later on ,if you want to change the bbl. , you already have the tools to do it your self . 7.62fan
I totally agree on getting the tools and doing it yourself. I purchased a DPMS 4 rail for my AP4, and bought the sight tool, combo wrench from Brownells. It's pretty straight forward. If not sure, study several videos to get a feel for how the weapon works. The one I use most is Midways AR-15 video, but you can use the free ones offered by Brownells also. Just pay attention to how things go together.
