Comps vs Brakes

This was kind of touched on in another thread. I was going to respond there, but it wasnt the right place to jump on my soap box.

My intention isn't to argue, but dispell any misinformation. These two devices are apples and oranges and the intention of your build should dictate which you choose.

Someone made a comment about using a Battlecomp while prone. The Battlecomp series of compensators (v1.0, v1.5, v2.0 & BABC) do not have exhaust ports at the 5 o'clock to 7 o'clock range. Thus if you were prone, and your rifle was at a perpendicular angle to the ground, you should have no reaction from the dirt. Additionally there are several Costa videos that demonstrate shooting while laying on his side. Even then the reaction with the ground is minimal.

Comparing a Battlecomp to a PWS is like comparing a sports car to a luxury car. One is a comp and one is a brake. Use comps for battle and competition, when follow-up shots matter most. Use brakes for sitting by yourself on a bench saving your shoulder from unwanted punishment.

There are hybrids out there that have crossover functions. Although they never really outperform a device designed for a certain function.

Whaaaaaaat? I think you must be thinking of something else entirely or perhaps you're mixed up in your thinking.

Both the BABC and the PWS are compensators; neither of them are brakes so it would be considered as comparing apples to apples. That being said, they work better than probably most of the top brakes on the market in reducing recoil.

Comparing apples to oranges would be comparing either of the two aforementioned to a Surefire brake, AAC brake, or a Badger Ordnance FTE brake. Entirely different in performance and looks.
