Papa
Please let me know your thoughts on accuracy going from 24 to 20 inches. Also your thoughts on fluted barrels. Anyone look at the "honeycombed" http://forceproduction.com/page26/index.html fluting? Spiral or straight? I currently have a 24 inch bull barrel. I need to lighten the load a bit. Thank you in advance...
jeffreyC
Shorter barrels are stiffer for the same thickness, so accuracy usually improves. With iron sights on an AR the sight radius will be the same.A fluted barrel is stiffer than an unfluted barrel of the same weight, not the same diameter. Robocop1051
You'd be surprised at the accuracy difference between a fluted bull 20" vs a standard bull 24". Unless you are going to spend a lot of time at 1000 yards, the extra 4" are a waste. Spiral flutes, golf ball dimpling, and honeycomb are all gimmicks. Stick to the standard flutes. They are significantly less expensive and proven technology. With a decent barrel maker, you should be shooting sub MOA all day.
Papa
Thank you. I appreciate the info. I dropped it off to be cut, but not fluted.
