tackleberry2000
Installed a Troy TRX rail on my DPMS AP4 the other day and had to run up to 70 ft lbs to get it lined up for my gas tube. At 30 l s it was half way between holes. Did I over tighten it?
Robocop1051
No worries. On a decent upper, you can crank up to 120#. Having 35-90 is normal. Some guys like to be on the extremes of those weights.
tackleberry2000
Thanks. Was a bit worried. Wasn't sure if it would mess up the depth the gas tube sits in the receiver. My ar-15 I was 40 ish for alignment.
StainTrain
I had the exact same issue with my TRX. I emailed troy and they said not to exceed the usually reported 80ft lbs because you run the risk of damaging the upper. I loosened and tightened the nut many many many times with lots of moly grease. I ended up with a final 65 ft lbs of torque for alignment. It sounds like you are almost ready for some range time. tackleberry2000
Had it to the range a few months ago. Got it zeroed at 50 yards and was going to go to 100 when all the idiots showed up so i packed it in. The TRX was added because I didnt like the solid rail from DPMS and was hoping to shave a few ounces off the rifle.
Rsquared
<thumbsup> about when the ranges get crowded with morons. As with anything, there's always the few that can spoil a good day at the range. That's when it's time to go back to house and drink....and clean the rifles.....and drink a little more.....and well, you know. HA
tackleberry2000
Oy you know it! Its funny I went in the morning and there were three older guys there. It was all relaxed having a great time. Then the gunstore commandos showed up with no brains and just walked out onto a hot range. Didnt want anything to do with that stupidity.
