I got addicted to vicodin while fighting an abscess tooth. When it was time to quit taking it, I quit taking it. There were some urges and uncomfortable feelings but nothing THAT bad. TBH, I really don't understand what all the fuss is about. Just draw a line and don't cross it. Works for me.
