cyclepath
I am starting to spec out all the components for my SASS build and need some of the expert's opinions here. I was looking at the JP Bennie Cooley compensator and was wondering for those of you who have first hand experience, does it add a lot of weight to an already heavy upper? I do most of my shooting on the bench but sometime like to shoot off hand so I would like to keep the weight down as much as possible. Also, I was considering re-profiling the 18" SASS barrel behind the gas block. Is this a good idea to shave weight and still maintain barrel integrity? Thanks for any feedback. TacBlade
I had one on my .223. It does not add that much weight over a standard Flash hider to be noticed. I took mine off, as I sometimes pull up and shoot a coyote without hearing protection. You do not want to shoot it without hearing protection, as it is very, very loud. Now, I know some of you might be thinking that hearing protection should always be worn and I agree, as I have hearing loss from some loud noises I heard in IRAQ. But, when you are out driving, and a Wiley Coyote jumps out, you don't have time to plug your ears. Also, the back blast hits the shooter pretty good. As far as recoil reduction, It works very well. 98Z5V
It's one of the best compensators made (designed), and it does a great job on recoil reduction. Echo what TacBlade said, but I've never tried the thing without earpro on. I have a hearing aid for my right ear, and I earned that thing. No more of that for me... <dontknow> ;D
