  1. It won't even hold back if I hold the lock in position, release the bolt then release the lock. It will stay unroll I releas the lock. Doesn't look like there is much for it to catch on the bolt.
  2. My bolt recently started not staying locked back on a empty mag and also it won't even stay back manually. Any ideas out there? Thanks.
  3. Seating depth the same. 2.790 just under mag length. No crimp. This time I tried the same xbr 8208 powder that pushes the smk's. Before with the strait vld I had tried varget and h4895 all with multiple .5 gr increments. The best so far is that .75 group. They were usually around 1.5 or so. They did not like near max load. You change sample packs of them 12ct from "bullet proof" retailers. That's what i did for the hybrids. Wish I knew about them when I ordered the boxes of the vld, now just an expensive paper weight. :)
  4. Group size. I don't think it's the weight difference I believe it's the shape of the bullet. The "hybrids" are a mix of a secant and a tangent ogive. So far they seem to shoot just like there normal vld out of my gun. For what ever reason it likes the more blunted nose of the smk. Only have a few of the hybrids left to try but still have a couple hundred of the vld. Tried them for there higher bc, but if it don't shoot it don't shoot.
  5. I've now tried some berger 155 & 168 hybrid. Can't get either to come close to my smk.
  6. The good thing about the versa pod is if yoy want the rifle more compact all you have to do is remove it. Fast and easy loosen the "cant" tension knob and push the release button, put it in your pack and go. I have two one for prone or bench and one for sitting. Great product.
  7. Those are sweet. A modern tommy gun <thumbsup>
  8. I was unaware there was sucha thing Robocop. Will defiantly look into. ;D
  9. Thanks guys. Definitely leaning towards the Skinner rear sight. I like the blk/gold option, and go whith skinners "shoot and see" if the frt site needs replacing. Dad is getting to be a .45 cal hoarder. Rossi ranch hand 45lc, ruger Blackhawk w/.45acp and .45lc cylinders, a tommy gun .45acp, smith & wesson stainless revolver .45acp, colt 1911 gov't commander .45acp, derringer .45acp, .45lc/.410
  10. We been going to gun shows since I was 8-9. Once I got the hang of shooting I was beating him at the range. It was and still is being able to beat dad at something. He is not ashamed to admit it either. Looking at Skinner peep sight now. Might go with a fiber optic Frt to help give him as much aof an advantage as possible. 8)
  11. I just swapped out the factory weights for high density tungsten powder I got off eBay for $20/lb. Original weight was 4.625oz and after the swap it weighed in at 7.5oz filled to capacity. Not as heavy as what you buy (9oz) for my RRA LAR-8 but pretty close to try out. cheap alternative. Still need to het to the range and give it a run.
  12. My dad recently bought a Rossi ranch hand and he has tri focal lenses and can't see the small slot in the rear site. He has asked me to decide what to get and let him know. I told him I can use the sights fine, but he still wants me to research for him. Does anyone else have tired eyes and could reccomend a good sight options for a lever gun? Thanks from me and dad
  13. I have a lb coming. Will see how much fits. Empty buffer weighs 1.25 oz, full of weights and spacers 4.625. Shooting for 7.75-8.0 oz of added weight.
  14. I am going to try using original and adding heavy tungsten powder I got off ebay. Will keep you posted on how ot turns out.
  15. I would be trying to make it heavier like the "heavy buffers". Reducing recoil.
  16. I was contemplating taking my buffer apart and getting some of the tungsten powder and trying it out. Read about that in a thread here.
  17. Yes it is.
  18. Bought it, very well made and quite stable for one having about a nickel sized contact area. 8)
  19. JP "howitzer) recoil eliminator get my <thumbsup> <thumbsup>
  20. This past weekend I aided a friend into a purchase of a new LAR-8 VARMINT. Now he has to wait. The store in Texas ordered it in April this year, so hopefully not to long a wait. Gun show this weekend to help aid in his selection of add on's. I love spending other people money 8). There rodents seem to be many of us RRA people there.
  21. Haven't shot a lot off of it but so far <thumbsup>. Can't see any problems with it in the future.
  22. Good quality and great price. $189 installed. I sent my complete upper and they dissasembled, threaded, recrowned, cleaned and reassembled. Edward Arthur Brown company. eabco.com They are a company factory authorized and recommended by JP enterprise.
  23. Hey spaniky73, how does the heavy buffer compare to the stock one? That is one of the few things I haven't done yet. Did it help even without the shark on? I have a tubs flatwire spring and I can't tell a whole lot of difference compared to the original. Was told by slash they work the best with original style springs. Your thoughts?
  24. Hope these help a little. No signs of welding internally. Must be cnc machined, my guess.
  25. The break is phenomenal. It now feels a little more than a .223 to me. I had it installed by Edward Arthur Brown co. great work. The green thing is a b-square anti can't level. As for the stock adjustments, I have long arms and the charge handle clears with the cheek in any position. It is the version specificly for the .308 platform. The extension might be in the future mods.
