  1. The Syrac is STEEL, it's adjustments have clicking detents, they sent a long tool that allowed me to adjust it from the front while it sits under a Troy free float handguard. Best $100 I have spent on my little 308AR to date!
  2. Well, I finally got around to using my new Flex-Hone and Flex-Hone Oil on my DPMS's chamber and the dreaded ring shaped machining marks are GONE. I used the 18v Dewalt on the slowest speed (450rpm) and lubed the Flex-Hone really well and slowly pumped it in and out of the chamber for 10-15 seconds. The case shoulder area still looks sharp and there is no visible dimension change or uneven spots but the ringed machine marks I could feel with the corner of my fingernail are gone. Apparently you don't have to run this tool for very long to get the desired result which probably means if you were too enthusiastic you might screw up your chamber instead of improving it. I was kind of hoping the finish would be a little more "mirror like" but this essentially looks like the chamber of any other production rifle where they don't try to run OLD REAMERS like DPMS seems too. Hopefully the weather will stay nice and I can give everyone a range report of how my brass looks now that the chamber won't be quite so sticky later this week.
  3. Shooting: I was shooting with my elbows tucked and my nose to the charging handle before cellphones existed. No need to teach a weasel how to suck eggs ;) JP Bolt: However on the JP Bolt issue I will admit that I just don't like the way the DPMS bolt scuffs/chips the corners of the lugs from just a few sessions of racking the bolt and I imagine that it has to do with the 8620 steel it's made from and that if I bought a bolt made from tougher steel then it's just one less thing I need to worry about down the road. What I would really like to find is an extractor that was less likely to crap out than the usual DPMS type. I have thought about having my extractors magnetic particle inspected by a buddy who does NDT work for power plants.. Ammo: I have a stockpile of Port, Hirtenberger, SA and LC Ball that I acquired in the days when MBR ammo was still $.13 per round. If I shot 500 rounds per month until Ragnarok I would still have enough LC Ball to shoot every Jötunn in Niflheim.
  4. That is precisely what I need. I have always run my ARs NTCH and my wrist had been killing me since 1989!
  5. I live in a desert, do you think the BCM grips will hold paint when I Krylon this rifle to a nice dusky desert brown?
  6. I am thinking that my next purchases will be.. BCM Gunfighter Grip Mo 0 SOG 5/8x24 Flash Hider Syrac Adjustable Gas Block JP Enhanced Bolt VLTOR iMod Buttstock(Milspec/Colt) KAC Micro BUIS(Front) Rainier Raptor 7.62 Charging Handle LaRue SPR-E Scope Mount(30mm) SWFA SS 10x42 "fixed" DMR Scope Larue Offset Mount(for T1 Aimpoint) Noveske TRX Bipod/Sling Stud I already own the Harris Bipod and the Aimpoint T1 for this project but if anyone has an opinions/experiences on my other selections I would like to know about them.
  7. Finally scrounged enough parts to get this together and I have yet to shoot it but I am hopeful. DPMS Oracle Upper CMMG Billet Lower Troy TRX Extreme 308 12.6 YHM Lo-Pro Gas Block Heavy Buffer Springco Orange Recoil Spring Colt Carbine Buffer Tube/Stock DPMS Trigger(Bill Springfield Trigger Job) KAC 200-600M BUIS Aimpoint T1 w/ Factory QD Mount I am still looking at grips, stocks, muzzle devices and a KAC front BUIS but the recent idiocy is requiring that I spend my build money on a backstock of 308 Pmags. Any suggestions from those of you who have built similar rifles? I
  8. My wife decided that she liked my LR-308 build so I am building a 5.56 caliber clone of it for her. The basic guideline is no extra weight or expense where it's not absolutely needed and spend the bulk of the money on the parts that matter(Barrel, Bolt Group, Trigger). The nice thing about a 5.56 AR is the variety of already configured uppers that are available. I was able to go to Bravo Company Manufacturing and select a top of the line BFH (16" forged barrel) upper and bolt carrier group for $690 and then go to the local gun shop and find a lower with a Magpul MOE buttstock for $300 and my wife loves it. The 5.56 AR with a 1 in 7 twist barrel using heavy 75-77gr ammo is a great compromise for a smaller framed person. It has a similar flight path to 147gr 7.62 NATO milsurp ball but the 90rds of ammo, 3 mags and the rifle all together weigh about the same as most 308 ARs with a single loaded mag.
  9. That kind of part is almost always case hard and not through hard. Military M16 BCGs are case hard.
  10. Put them in your renal system because your kidneys will probably be shot after ingesting all of that stuff long enough, lol
  11. Cayenne Pepper Capsules and topical creams like Capzacin. Also large doses of Omega 3(8-10 capsules per day taken 2 at a time throughout the day).
  12. I used a Redimag in the early 90s. I liked it a lot. The dropping both mags things doesn't really matter because you don't ride a spare mag on your rifle unless it's prepped for serious use or you have entered into some other "excitement". I would love a DPMS/SR25 type Redimag that specifically fits P-Mags!
  13. Currently I have on order(hopefully in the mail) JP Enhanced Bolt Geissele SSA-E Trigger
  14. How interesting.I just talked with Jeff at PROOF about an LR308 carbine barrel yesterday and about which blanks could be used. I still want the $1100 carbon wrapped barrel that weighs under 2lbs and is stout enough to be used as a sledgehammer but I may have to get an AP4 or Oracle barrel to tide me over until the mystical carbon unicorn shows up in a year or so. Nice Build Robocop!
  15. JP Low Mass Bolt Carrier JP Silent Spring/Buffer JP/Syrac Low Pro adjustable gas block Carbine Length Gas System CTR or MOE Stock (like Weaponizer) Lightweight Floated Forend(Lancer Carbon/Apex/Troy) Titanium Thread Protector(lighter than muzzle devices) Maybe those choices will knock a some weight out and compensate adequately for the lightweight components and being a little overgassed. I am not any kind of expert on 308ARs(n00b +25) but I am kind of heading that direction with my own build and I am very weight conscious due to a back injury.
