  1. The round is called a 308 Alpo. A necked down 444 marlin with a 40* shoulder, in custom cut chamber in my single shot. Once I have fire formed brass I load 55.5 grains of H4350 with CCI 200 primer. I've never run it over a chrono, but much better groups than the BT (bullet is only thing changed). My best group (4 of 5 shots) was a tiny bit under 1". Really does the trick on AL deer.
  2. I have a wildcat .308 round that I make that loves those bullets. Much better than the BT's.
  3. Welcome form South FL. Looking forward to read about your new rifle.
  4. Has anyone had any experience with the Redfield Counterstrike?
  5. Thanks for the feedback. I have a LR308B that is set up more for long range, but would like to get the Gen 2 Recon as my short range rifle. I'll keep following the feed back. From all that I have read it seems fairly decent, but like always time will tell.
  6. I haven't really read anything lately about the Gen 2. Anybody out there want to share?
  7. I guess I'm really anal, I have all the serial numbers saved, pictures of all my firearms ( both sides ) and pictures of the serial number on the firearm.
  8. I also use the Bore Snake, but in an actual cleaning rod you can't beat the Tipton. I have 2 (sizes ) they work great.
  9. The rifle shoots very well! I'm 25 rds. thru the break in, and happy with the accuracy. Haven't been able to get back to the range the last couple of weeks, son is getting married, really busy. I'll be back at it hot and heavy next month.
  10. For what it's worth, you have way more patience than I do. I would have gone a different route way before now. -Bill-
  11. DITTO to DNP :) -Bill-
  12. Thanks so much for the info.
  13. Hi All, What is anybody using, and pros and cons in a tactical type of sling? I'm looking for something for my collapsible stock. Thanks in advance -Bill-
  14. Got to the range today to start the break in on my new rifle. Fired the first 25 rds., cleaning after every round (as per DPMS). I was using Federal 150 gr. SP, whoever said to use everything else until you find a round better then this sure wasn't kidding. It fed well, and looks like my rifle likes it. I was shooting off of a shakey portable bench with a front bag and just into my shoulder in the back. This 100 yd. target was the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th round out the bore. It figures the 5th round would be the one to open up the group. I also got a 2 1/8" 3 shot group at 200 yds. Sure did have a good time with this rifle <thumbsup>. -Bill-
  15. Well my rifle got to the shop Friday evening, and I picked it up first thing Saturday morning. I got a LR308B, it checked out " all's well ". <thumbsup> I brought it home and mounted a Leupold Vari-X II 3x-9x in Warne QD rings. Everything went good with the mounting, really pretty straight forward. I also put a Stoney Point Bi pod on the rifle. I have a Harris Bi pod but was the next size up and a little to tall. Luckily I had the scope, rings and bi pods in the gun box, so that was great not having the extra expense. I'm going to try and get out in the next couple of days and start the break in process. -Bill-

    IMR 3031

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll knock the load down a notch and try it in my rifle, as soon as it comes in. With all I've been reading it sounds like Varget is the ticket for AR 308's. -Bill-

    IMR 3031

Has anyone used IMR 3031 in AR 308 reloads? I had a lot of luck with a load of this in a bolt action, clean and very accurate. I wondered how it will work in an AR? -Bill-
  18. I carried a S&W Md. 60 for a long time, but lately I've been switching out with my Taurus Md. PT 111 PRO. A little heavier, but way more shots!
