JP Enterprises Barrel kit for a new build?
msoto80010 replied to msoto80010's topic in JP Enterprises
Thanks. One major problem I have run into is that the stock DPMS factory trigger is horrible for accuracy. It has a super heavy pull and loads of creep. Any advice on a precision trigger I can use for better accuracy? I would prefer something that isn't too complicated to install. Not that I am not capable but the simpler the less can go wrong. I was thinking maybe a geiselle SSA or the likes. -

DNP, It's time to make an appointment with you for portraits. As you can see above, I suck at taking pictures. Your skills are needed to make this thing look presentable. ;D -

JP Enterprises Barrel kit for a new build?

The masterpiece is not completed yet ;D The stock arrives on Thursday. I am debating on wether to take pics then or wait for the optics to arrive for a completed presentation. -
I went with a Gen X Raddlock. I works just fine. You do have to make sure to not adjust the screw all the way in or it makes it a little harder to work the release with a tool.

Thanks for the heads up. I was running it fairly dry. :o

I installed a JP LMOS in my build and am also using a JD matched set. I also concur that JD is very plug 'n play. The only issue I am having right now is that the action is short stroking. JP's instructions stated this might happen when using their adjustable gas block while the rifle is in the break in process so I am not too concerned about it yet. I will see if this improves as more rounds get cycled.

JP Enterprises Barrel kit for a new build?

I received the upper assy goodies last week. The stuff sure looks purdy and I couldn't help but get it assembled the next day. Still waiting on a stock and optics. I used the A2 stock off of my AR-15 and a cheapo scope off of my AR15-22 to "temporarily" completed the build. I was anxious to try it out and start the break in process that JP recommends. Can't really attest to the accuracy as of yet. Still breaking the barrel in and haven't mounted good optics. I was also using inexpensive ammo. The grouping started out wide and started tightening up as I progressed through the break in process. -

Still waiting on JP. They did say it would take a couple of weeks to get the stuff in. Anxiously counting the days. :( -
I have the lower and upper receiver assembled. Just waiting on the barrel, handguard, stock and BCG. The waiting is killing me. :(

One could say that the more you post, the more new projects you attempt. With that, I don't think I can afford to post a whole lot more. ;D

I have #365 and apparently they have all the bugs worked out. The LPK slipped into it perfectly. I know what you mean about the wife. Mine plans out my days off for me also. Some times she even lets me know a little ahead of time not to count on a day off. ::)

Count me in. A spare is a good thing to have.

To me it seems the .308 is a logical progression from .223. Kind of like when you buy your first dirt bike in 125cc and soon discover you need more power and upgrade to a 250cc. The problem with that analogy is that after a year or two you upgrade again to a 400-500cc (.50 cal?). ;D The ammo is abundantly available. The local Walmarts around here are sold out of just about everything, but they had .308.

Thanks for the heads up. I got the pins from Rob and also found out they come already tapped for the pin. As for preassembly, it is called "fit testing" and is a very good idea to make sure everything "fits" before committing yourself to the final assembly 8)

Try the South Bay Rod and Gun Club in Dulzura. Thay have a nice outdoor range out to 300YDS, a 100m range, shotgun range for trap & skeet, and a pistol range. Membership is $75.00 for the year(unlimited use included), or $20.00 for each visit. That is a no brainer :P The Range Officers are really nice. It takes me 35 minutes to get there from my house and the drive is relaxing.

JP Enterprises Barrel kit for a new build?

Thanks for the heads up DNP. I had read your post on the rear detent screw. Rob hooked me up with 2. One to use and one to loose I guess. I called JP to place my order and they were extremely helpful on the phone. I ended up getting the 22" barrel kit (which included the adjustable gas system & comp), heat sink for the barrel, Complete bolt assy, and handguard. They even threw in a discount. ;D Since I can't take a picture to save my life, I am going to have to hook up with you for some good pics once it is complete. You have mad photo skills by the way. JP Enterprises Barrel kit for a new build?

Went to JD Machine to pick up my matched set today. We have a 10 day (make sure you're not a psycho) waiting period here. I got to talking with Rob there. He is an ex Seal armorer that does all there custom work. He gave JP Enterprises good marks so I "pulled the trigger" on their barrel to try it out. The rest of the parts are on order and should start trickling in slowly. The waiting for the UPS guy is the hardest part. Will keep you updated and post some pics as the build progresses -
Hi everyone, Greetings from the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia. I just started my first .308 build and found this forum while searching for info. I am in San Diego like DMP. My first post was in the JP enterprises section. Should have started out here...sorry. Will post pics of this build as it progresses.

JP Enterprises Barrel kit for a new build?

Thanks for the answers so far. The planned use for this build is long range bench shooting. I would like to start experimenting with 600 - 1000 yard shots. The JP barrels claim to be supermatch, but a manufacturer can say just about anything they want. That doesn't make it true. That is why I was looking for actual personal experience. Thanks for the alternatives. I will investigate them. -
Hello everyone. This is my first foray into the realm of .308 so please excuse any newb questions. I obtained a JD Machine Tech matched upper and lower. They are DPMS compatible. My question is in the choice of barrels. I want to stick to a minimum 20" barrel. I have looked into an actual DPMS 24" bull barrel and a JP Enterprises 22" medium contour barrel. I have heard good things about the DPMS barrels but 24" is slightly on the long side for me. At 22" the JP is looking more appealing. I can't seem to find any reviews or info on the JP beyond what is on their web site. Any one out there have any experience with these barrels? Any info would be appreciated.
