  1. i am not sure if they make then either , but if they do.. I want
  2. I opened safe to get upper and barrel out. FF tube rolled off shelf came down and hit safe frame , bent tube just before threads. I got it straight but now I will need to re-do black. Good side is I have the barrel installed . took 70 lbs of torq to get it to align the hole for gas tube. everything is on order or in bound, except the BCG . who will I order from is up in the air. JSE, Does BCM sell BCG for the DPMS 308. if so I will order from them. need fullauto BCG. even if you are only shooting semi-auto use the full auto BCG. it cycles better ,slower with less feed issues. it is heavier I have them in all my AR15. it is legal, 100%
  3. I hope everyone know that no matter how well equip. they are no matter how good a shot they are. no matter how much they train.. they can not stand alone for long. everyone has to sleep, or get other work done to survive, the TV mountain man type is not real, most can not deal with solitude of being all by them selves. and every person added to the count has plus and a minus. more food more people to work to grow food. most grocery stores have 3 days supply on shelves at any given time. Just fro the record I am not preaching that the end is near. I just believe you should be-aware of the big picture of what could be coming with all the people out of work. there are allot more than what there was during the BIG depression era" and then families took care of each other. that is not so now day.s and just in for your self mind set will fail.
  4. NATO head spacing and ammo was designed so all 7.62 X 51 ammo will fit and work in any given weapon. other maybe adjustment on a gas regulator. this is so a invading army can use ammo from the country the just conquered. the 308 actually is rated for higher chamber pressure than the 7.62 X 51 NATO round. it is a argument that has went on for a long while. http://www.303british.com/id36.html or this " there has NEVER been a single documented case of a blowup or other catastrophic failure from ANYONE firing EITHER surplus 7.62 in a .308W chambered rifle OR ANYONE firing surplus 5.56 in ANY .223 chambered rifle. When actually measured, The actual pressure differences in these rounds are either ZERO or 2-3000 psi. Most of the confusion arises from the differences in pressure data between CUP (copper units pressure) and PSI. if you can give me a actual case in which the problem has happen please inform me. not something that a Friend of a friend once heard about this happening to someone who knew someone once some third world country I don't believe any of it. I have shot bot in every weapon I have . and I only use weapons that are NATO round. except the 22LR
  5. black with 308 Brownell on bottom
  6. midwayusa has them in stock . 18.95 each they always go fast update they are no longer in stock. as of 3/12/11
  7. the SHTF could just be the fed. gov. making ammo hard to get. my worries are some people on UN employment, Ohio had a drop of people drawing unemployment just this last month,, the drop was families unemployment benefits ran out, they didn't get a job.. now as that happens across the nation, states don't have the funds to carry them, there are NO new jobs for them. what will happen when everyone on unemployment has run out. no money = no food for everyone,, I am not alone, in worrying about what will happen as more loose unemployment, food kitchens don't have the food for all. and there are what 30 million or more on unemployment. it is going to get bad in all over.
  8. how much ammo should you keep on hand, in a safe place not to be used but should be rotated to keep as fresh as possible. figure shooting anywhere from 500 to 1500 rounds per month each weapon of choice.me I keep only NATO calibers , most weapons without ammo area very poor club. how many primers and how many Lbs of powder, bullets, either cast of plated. do we have anyone into survival skills, yes I fall into that category. I stock enough to take care of my small family. what does your bug out bag feel like, can you grab it on the run or do you need help putting it on your back. would the weapon you have talked or wished about on here be your primary battle rifle, it Is not what you would call light. or do you feel that everything in our country is great and no need to even consider this decision.
  9. I am confused,, are you talking about having someone else build a rifle for you? you pick out all the parts they put it together or are you going to build it yourself? it is possible to hand chamber a weapon without lathe, check cost of having one built and cost of buying tools that you can re-use and see which is best, Me I want to building everything I shoot. brownells sells the tools and has allot of video's on how to proceed on a build.
  10. I deal with both of McMaster Carr and MSC. get so much email from MSC it not funny, but don't want to cancel . bad news is wrench wont go on barrel nut (yet) I knew better than to weld without barrel nut as guide. will repair or redo tomorrow. a challenge that I am up to. I deserve this as I was rushing things along instead of taking my time. photo is as it sits right now, 3/8 sq. hole not in yet and I will need to remove 2 pins
  11. very nice. would like to have some of that material. the link for this did not work for me. link THOMSON SHAFTING shows under construction
  12. most of mine are mad on drill press with good cross sliding vise. but will admit if I can use machines at work I do.
  13. yes and no .. re barreled a savage.. buy action cheap easy to re-barrel what are you wanting to build? you can pick up mouser on gunbroker around 100-150. use the action for a total build, but original bolt face will make you stay with in certain calibers. or do you plan on buying custom receiver? the hard part for most maybe having the nerve to go for it. and remember to post info as you build. I say go for the total build,
  14. I have a habit of making my own tools. in process of making FFT and barrel nut tool. will post see if I can post photo soon as it done. anyone else make any of their own tools ?
  15. but spoons did help rosie get fatter.. great post
  16. uh I always liked my weekends. still paying for children, and I once had a bank account 30 yrs ago. then I got married and just threw it all away
  17. I installed barrel on upper last before I left for work. only hand tight. after work I un screwed barrel nut, (still only hand tight) and I am unable to remove barrel from upper receiver. it fits that tight. but never had fit that tight on the little brothers, . is it normally that tight. I will need to use leather mallet to remove, " in my mind" tight equal accuracy
  18. can I get some measurement from someone else's upper receiver block. I will check and see if it is my upper out of spec, or the upper receiver block.
  19. I already have rail mounted sights. that the benefit of multiple AR's the parts cross over.. I have gas blocks but all are .750 . I know I want steel for durability, I will most likely pin gas block once installed, have never been one to trust set screws, and pining is not difficult with correct set up , drill guide and drill press plus taper pin reamer, I done 7-8 of them and have not ruin any barrels yet, doing good for garagesmith. first attempts years ago, would see drill bit warping and sliding off barrel. now us small end mill bit to make flat starting point(1/8) and guide. will need to make drill guide for 936 barrel. pre dimple barrel is great of location drill fixture. , some day I will post photos of homemade tools. barrel vise, barrel wrenches, more barrel wrench's , bolt extractor removal tool for FAL , etc, etc, why buy is you have the machines at hand to build. I would guess every machinest/toolmaker on this site has built their own tools. if cost effective
  20. I would like to look thru the CS scope to see if that retical blocks sight pic. at all. the time it would take me to use everthing there shot would be gone. I will try mil dot for first time on my next scope, and now all this. what happed to K.I.S.S.
  21. ye haw my barrel arrived this morning, missed the mail delivery and had to chase down mail lady, but I have barrel , its a DPMS 24 fluted bull Barrel, I put it on and it does not feel that heavy, I have a Olympic arms Ar15 with 20" heavy match that feels allot heavier. I only need to install a gas block/tube and get the bolt carrier group assembly,(this weekend) and it will be ready to shoot, I can wait for the stock as use the A2 that I have installed. gas block, what to use, low-pro type or something with at least 1 rail, maybe 2 for front sight if things break and rail to install bi-pod when needed. what would look better and work better, rail added to FF tube for bi-pod, that would keep me off barrel? or 2 rail gas block,? opinions please almost forgot, the plastic web that comes on barrel works great in safe also, protect both FFT and Barrel from dings and scratches
  22. all I want is a good scope that does not cost more than the weapon it self. I am going with Nikon this time. mil dot would be nice but all I ever learned was kentucky windage, to much of a hillbilly to change now.
  23. is the buy still alive or has happened and is long over
  24. I may have missed them but I did not find 308 port covers at brownells, some times my search does not do well
