    MA-Ten Multicam Krylon

Thank you for all the compliments For the most part I kept it assembled to make sure the pattern flowed throughout the rifle. The scope/rings were removed but I kept the scope in the rings/level Also kept the UBR closed I did open it and spray it only after the rest of the rifle was complete/dry I did wrap the barrel/brake in wax paper and put the FFtube back on. Before I started I already made the decision that the barrel/brake/bipod were going to be some shade or shades of green so I did those last After everytime I sprayed it I would hit it with a heat gun set on its high setting being carefull not to keep it to close but I would make sure it got damn hot Then I would let it dry for at least 5 days and in that time I could lay out the next design in my head.......That was all that was on my mind for a month or so...A little distracting but fun as hell to do. I used MinWax Fastdrying Polyurethane (black and gold aresol can) for the final finish I used a whole can just on the FFT and a whole can on the rifle almost a hole can on the scope and rings and I used alot on the mags as well. I let all that dry for another 5 days then I assembled it. I stuffed alot of toilet paper inside to protect the barrel and upper and mag well. Whatever overspray I got in the magwell was easily removed with Acetone. The only problem was with the mag release on the left side It would catch just a bit from the buildup of the polyurethane but that was an easy fix. A couple light passes with some 200grit and it functions flawlessly. Anymore questions just ask. I learned alot from this project I have 2 more projects I plan on doing and they should look even better. AL
  3. I posted this on SH figured it would be appropriate to post it here as well. My first attempt @ DIY camo I traced all the patterns from one section of my Tab Gear shooters mat and tried to lay out the patterns the exact same way on the rifle. I used 12 colors to try and get it right and lots of polyurethane to finish it off. Did my own design on the brake, barrel, bipod & bikini covers. Hunter Green Italian Olive Hosta Leaf Avocado Almond Khaki Sand Brown Espresso Brown Boots Ballet Slipper Pink Dark Taupe
  4. I got a chance to really test the brake and I cant tell the difference between the two. I do like the cooley brake better because of the looks. The tank brake just seemed to get uglier and uglier everyday. The cooley brake is actually heavier and larger though. AL
  5. "Sweet"... <thumbsup>
  6. Eberlstock X3 Lodrag (multicam) AL
  7. Looks Awesome I like it AL
  8. Sounds like a good time. Very Cool AL
  9. Thanks for clearing that up Looks like I have a 18.5" NM Med Douglas then...cool with me cause it shoots lights out. AL
  10. I like it looks good. A Douglas barrel matched to the BCG? Did you send your barrel to Fulton or did you send your bolt to Douglas? AL
  11. Tab Gear rear bag (multicam) Tab Gear shooters mat (multicam) Spyder mesh (light green) Blackhawk Hellstorm elbow pads (od green) Crye Precision boonie hat (multicam) AL

  13. BT 10 Atlas bipod version 8 Have a GGG now cant wait to compare the two. More 175's from Southwest Ammo is a given I gotta learn to reload... <dontknow> AL
  14. Thanks for the compliments Havent had a chance to try the new brake. I have to wait till next weekend, waiting on ammo. I will report back on the difference if any. JP says that there is very little difference between the two. AL
  15. Yes 30mm <thumbsup> PM sent AL
  16. Just a little update Switched out the JP Eliminator for their B Cooley tact brake sanded it and timed it myself no washers needed which Im pretty happy about. Plus I went with the Tubbs CWS w/ Flatwire spring. No problems with the CWS installed and shotgun break as reported by others. Also switched out the Bobro qd mount for XTR med rings so that the scope would sit lower. Just more comfy for me and I wanted to get as close to the barrel as possible. But I havent go to shoot her with the lower scope postion. I now know I can go with a 50mm obj with no problems with these rings and still be nice and low. Thought I was going to have to stick with a 42mm obj. not that thats a bad thing was looking at IOR 3-18x42 but thing have changed... Now if deciding on the right scope wasnt such a hard decision. CWS w/spring,enidine buffer and JP adj block combo works like a dream. I cant believe how eazy she is to drive and how gentle she is on brass. I actually have to spin the spent casing between two fingers to feel any kind of ejection scuff because there arent any visable marks. Im really happy with the way she is set up right now. Updated pics AL
  17. This is the QD mount Bobro makes and SWFA puts their name on. SOLID AS A ROCK. You can cary your rifle by the scope with this mount. It locks in even on out of spec rails. Only reason Im selling is it sits just a bit high for me (UBR stock) and I like to be tucked in nice and low. I switched to XTR med rings. There is a slight mark towards the back because the rear focus of my ss16x42 rubbed on it. As soon as I noticed it I fixed the problem. I tried to get a good pic but you can barely see it anyways. The mount was used for 120 rounds. I dont have the original box but it does include the wrench. Track # will be provided First I'll take it PP for payment Here is the SWFA description http://swfa.com/SWFA-Precision-Optic-30mm-Mount-P48134.aspx Pics of it on the rifle http://308ar.com/forum/mega-arms/lets-see-your-ma-ten-builds/15/ Pics Thanks AL
  18. the flutes do look cool though I like it... <thumbsup>
  19. Heres mine Manatee Gun Club about 1hr 20mins south of me. Shaped lik a V and they let you setup targets all the way down both walls to the 1k mark. Was there last Sunday and someone brought their own metal 1-20" gong setup on the right side berm @ 565 and a torso silhouette setup a little further down the right side @ 600yds The left side @ 565yds has 4&5" round swingers and the right has 4" square swingers also @ 565yds About 25yds in front of the right side they had maybe 20+ clay pigeons setup in the dirt which was pretty fun. The 1k targets are a 3 tier setup with 8" gongs and there is a 30" square plate w/a 10" circle cut out with a gong behind it setup on the right side
  20. Put a scope on a AK and shot some shotgun shells at 100yds one day at the range and that was fun as hell. Then I thought what would it be like to shoot to 1000yds? AWESOME!!! So I decided to build an AR, compared the 2 calibers and then looked for 1k ranges in my state and found one only 1 1/2hrs south. That was the deciding factor. AL
  21. Ordered a couple boxes of Brian Litz's Applied Ballistics 308 175 Tactical Ammo. My ammo from Southwest hasnt come in yet spoke to them and they said sorry for the delay we will send an extra box...definitely worth the wait. My CorBon 155 scenars came in today. I cant wait to see which one works. I want to hear something go GONNNNG @ 1000yds AL
  22. Just ship them UPS/FedEx to yourself a day before your flight. 3-4 days later they are on your doorstep. Either way its good night. Is there enough meat on the bottom of the strike plate to drill/tap? The sling loop plate seems too narrow. There is a cnc shop close by Im curious to know what the cost would be to splash the strike plate and have them ad the pic rail. Bring in the 2 pieces and have them cut it from one block of aluminum.
  23. JP Rifles JPGS-8 adj block Just 1 box of CorBon 155 gr scenar to test against some FGMM 168s & 175s to see which ones she likes best. Tab Gear rear bag AL
  24. Names AL from Trinity/New Port Richey FL Ive posted a few times so I figured I should introduce myself. Just started shooting a few months back but Ive owned my Global Trades AK for 6 years now and just finished it this year. Ive cut and chopped alot of things off of it and had it reparked looks like a Krebs kTR but w/ a Ace Ultra Lite stock. Couple months ago I picked up a used CZ75B and also tinkered with that (comp rear sight w/fiber optic front sight, stronger springs, drop free, removed fpb, comp hammer, converted from da sa to sa w/flat trigger and polished all the internals I could) I can never leave well enough alone at least thats what my girl says... <dontknow> Researching/learning & building my MATen was a blast along with researching scopes and learning how to use MOA and a Mil reticle was fun now what am I going to do?................. Reloading sounds cool..... ;D I like the fact that shooting, be it LR or pistol requires so much technique Plus Im lucky enough to have a 1k range 1 1/2hr from me. I actually researched this before I decided to build a 308 otherwise I probably wouldnt have built it. All my info for assembly came from this forum Thank You for taking the time to start this website and to those of you who post and pass on your knowledge so that beginners like myself can learn how to do it the right way the first time around. Not a single malfunction... 8) so far. Anyways good to be here AL
  25. Thank you I like the UBR but I think I am going to mod the rear sling plate by fiberglassing on a 2" pic rail so that I can use a monopod like the PRS. Or just get a Red Tac Gear Rear Bag and be done with it. The range is called Manatee Gun Club in Myakka FL about 1 1/2 south of me. The range actually goes out to 1018yds where they have 8" gongs. You can put targets anywhere youd like for the most part all the way out to 1k. At the 1k to 1018 there are several gongs(various sizes) and a 30" plate with a 10" circle cut out with a gong behind it. The targets are set up in a 3 tiered format so that the metal at 1018yds is the highest. IIRC it goes 1k,1010 & 1018 something very close to that. Ill take some good pics next time out. Its shaped in a giant V so no one shoots straight out they allow you to shoot cross range because of the layout. They are real cool/friendly there. Practically had the whole place to myself maybe 10 shooters there. They have alot of benches Cant wait to go back. My Bobro/SWFA mount came in and she is done......for now. Alot lower a much more comfy head/shooting position Moved the bipod back cant wait to try it this way. As of now it seems as though I can load the bipod more and there should be less flex from the handguard since the bipod is moved back. There is a tiny tiny bit of flex at the very end of the handguard. Some finished pics....
