Already have a pistol grip, didnt remember the model or i wouldve listed it (was left over from a friend's build). Chargin handle came with the receiver, gonna see how i like it before i worry about another one. Have the complete bcg from jp, krieger chambered to that bolt specifically, and the bolt carrier is the low mass one. Have three pmags coming with the stock from dave. Supressor may come in the future, hence the adj. gb. About the apex: your opinion on the texture? It wont be to much of a carry around gun, more to satisfy my 700+ fascination, but ive wondered if that grip ends up feeling cheap with that pattern. I hear nothing but good things though. Thanks for the input, i still feel like im forgetting something. <dontknow> Russ

New Suppressor Manufacturer - Tactical Armz
tolbndfishin replied to imschur's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
Welcome, Kind Sir, look forward to one day seeing if what you have to offer can handle my ability to break things just by looking at them. ;D Seriously though, Nice to have you here. Might be trying out one of your offerings in the future Russ -
Allright guys, I've talked about it a little, Going to finally list out my parts, and once this hurricane is out of the way and I can get home to work on it, will get it cerakoted and assembled. Only the stock and rec ext and scope still in the mail. Everything else is at the house. Mega MATEN set (upper/lower) Kreiger 1/10" M110 contour, 20" length (this thing was a headache to find an adjustable gas block for (.875"), just using a regular one until Syrac Ordnanace gets that size made) Troy Low pro gas block, .875" and rifle length gas tube DPMS FF handguard (Apex or MI handguard will go on eventually, in 15" length, once I decide for sure which one I want) JP low mass BCG including the enhanced bolt ALG defense trigger (Geiselle SSA-E on the wish list, I wanted to test out the ALG for my father's AR-15 build, so putting in my rifle for now to break it in ;)) Magpul PRS for 308 (still on it's way to me) Full length receiver extension/buffer tube JP SCS buffer (fully contained spring, this thing is almost odd with the quiet :o) Harris bipod on the work bench waiting for it's new home some 168s and 175s waiting to be slung down range SWFA SS 20x Mrad/mrad with mil-quad reticle in the mail, tps rings for now. (larue or american defense mount will be last purchase for this build) I just want to say Dave at bbshooting is the absolute MAN <thumbsup>. Any of you guys need anything (and i know it's been said here many times) he is one to call/email. Jason at Mega answered quite a few questions for me as well without hesitation, to help me make some decisions. And lastly, I need to thank you guys, cause i have found many of my answers here if i was confused about something, or needed inspiration. Will continue this thread with pics once the process gets continued. Russ

Waiting on my PRS right now, have a JP SCS buffer/spring to put into it. Havent completely assembled yet, aas I didnt have the tube/stock yet. Will be doing a writeup of the build once we get this hurricane out of the way (in the natl guard, so am sitting in central LA right now waiting to see what's next). I have opened a buffer and added weights to my service competition rifle for practice sessions, but that's 223, and it worked fine. Not sure if it'd be ideal long term, only put a couple thousand r ounds through it with that midified buffer in it. Used a combination lead/bismuth shot (for reloading shotshells, had it lying in the shop) melted into crayons so it was a solid slug. Just layered it into the buffer, with a lot of shot, and a little melted crayon wax. Easily removed if it doesnt work out, or if you want to adjust the weight. Just a thought. Im by no means an expert, and some of these guys have a LOT more experience than me, and might have better options for you. Russ

I tend to always try and give the benefit of the doubt, but that's enough right there for me to never deal with them, buy any product they produce, and to discourage my friends and acquaintances when they ask for opinions. They apparently don't need my business. I have received nothing but good information and CS from Jason at Mega, and from the guys at SI. No reason to shop elsewhere. Thanks for sharing your experience. Good luck with getting your build complete. Russ

I actually use olive oil, or creole mustard. I grill my pork chops coated in creole or spicy mustard, so ig u do get flavor from it, you wont be disappointed. The only reason you dont see mustard is because if my inlaws see i used it, theyll never touch it, regardless of whether or not the flavor is nonexistent from it or if it tastes good. They dont see any of the other stuff, or they prob wouldnt touch it at all :cookoo: All that to say yes, mustard wont do you wrong, but because of picky eaters, olive oil is usually my choice on pork shoulders or roasts. I just noticed my % for the injection doesnt add up right lol. But yall get the idea. Anyway, the red wine is something i learned from brisket cooking, and isnt necessary for pork, but i like it. What i do ask, is if you do something different with it, lemme know how it turns out ao i can try it (always looking for an excuse to cook more, even though i dont actually need one :D) Russ

Lets see if i can get it typed up right (didn't write it down, like a moron). Im gonna list in percentages of total rub: 40% brown sugar 10%cayenne (negotiable based on level of spice preferred) 20%onion powder 10%garlic powder (or just chop some cloves and shove them into the meat) 10%chili powder 10% commercial rub (i like the weber kicken chicken or weber lemon pepper) injectable: 30% worcestershire 20% red wine or red wine vinegar 10% lemon juice 50% apple juice/white grape juice mix i only use about 6-8 ounces of this for an 8-10lb shoulder, and put it in the fridge after injecting for at least a couple hours I take whatever's left of the liquid and use it to mop about three times after about 3, 4 and 5 hours of cooking. Once it's cooked, adding some brown sugar to the mix without the redwine/redwine vinegar then cooking to boiling for a few minutes to thicken it makes a fairly good sauce. Times and temps are pretty standard. cook at the 225 til internal temp get's where you want it. I've done this in a smoker, but it's a propane smoker from walmart, so easier to regulate temp than when i used to use a larger pit. May be sacrilege to some, but the people eating won't complain :) Alternate sauces: ketchup, italian dressing, worcestershire (30-50-20%) Adding mcormick montreal spicy steak seasoning to your favorite honey bbq sauce goes well too with above. For a different spin, take the pork and put over some salty corn chips, add some nacho cheese and jalapenos, and some grilled onions. Just some thoughts Russ

Personally, my choice would lie on the heavier side considering your available twists. However, i take into account everything you've said, and try to look objectively at what you're asking, and that places my opinion to be strongly in the 155s. You've shot them, you like them, you have a solid reason for that weight (the similarities to the 147s mil-surp trajectory) so i say stick with what you know. I do think purchasing a box of the 165s or 168s to load up some before you use your awesome gift cert, just to see what you think as to the performance in each rifle, would be a valued evaluation. Anyhow, since you aren't terribly concerned with the longer ranges, i would imagine in your few shots at 4-600, you'll be able to make those 155s work well enough for your purposes with a little practice. I cant speak from experience in a 308 win load yet, but i have shot a box of 50 of them in my 300wsm a while back. I'll have to pull out my load data for it, just to give you some idea, but i reckon you're not that concerned with that info other than the velocities and consistency there. I will say they were quite a pleasure out to around 500 (didnt shoot them beyond that, that i can remember), consistent as the 168s and 190s (which is the load i prefer for anything beyond 600 anyway). I didnt load them close to max load, cause they didn't like that kind of pressure out of my gun. I might even have some targets in the binder too. All that rambling to say, it's a nice weight/bullet, I'll be loading some up once i finish the mega 308 build next week while i wait on my scope to be delivered so might have some more info to discuss in a couple/three weeks if things go as planned. Hey Ya'll, Great community you've got here. I appreciate the mutual respect that seems to float around here, and the wealth of information and experience you guys all share. Situated in NE Louisiana, near Ruston and West Monroe. Work for the natl guard, shoot for em too (competition/instruction). Thanks for letting me hang around. <munch> Meant to post this in the introductions section, if a mod would like to move it. If not, no worries, here is fairly applicable too :-[ Russ

Going through exactly what you are asking right now. No, the ar15 uses a different thread pitch than the dpms. If you could find a barrel nut for that handguard, i'd be all over it lol JP has some options, in various lengths. Apex has a couple. Daniel Defense has a couple ff tubes. SWS (superior weapons systems). And i havent researched them yet, but PRI makes some too. I made the same realization as you did this very morning *bangs head on wall*, and went down the road to a nearby gun shop. Turned out, they had a dpms ff tube without any rails for $10 that I'm going to use until i pick the one i want. Let me know what you end up going with, and how you like it. Good Luck Dan

What made you decide to move to the 308 AR/AR-10 Platform?
tolbndfishin replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
Have always wanted one, never owned an AR. I saw an armalite display about 10 years ago at a competition, and immediately fell in love with the 308 on the stand. Ever since, have wanted one, finally decided to start researching and put one together. It's been a long time coming. -
What do you have on order or in the mail?
tolbndfishin replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
Yep, It was finally time. My first 308 receiver set, MEGA ma-ten. ALG trigger (thought i'd give it a good test), and JP SCS buffer. We'll see if i have a shooter or not in a couple weeks. New here, wanted to say great community. Thanks for the information and effort you guys go to here.
