Im thinking the nuclear regulatory commission probably prevent the sale of that stuff to individuals, seeing as how its radioactive. I know its not weapons grade uranium, but radioactive materials on the regulation lists usually dont come off that im aware of. There are a couple companies that will install the capsules for you in whatever sight you wish. I feel ur pain, and hope im not 100% correct and you actually find a vial for your use. Russ

Lemme know how it comes out. Im thinkin thatll be my first ar15 build (the 6.8 on a mega billet set). Right after i get this pair of 1911s im about to start building done. Hope they eye healz up quick Russ

Wash: Doesnt she just take it and shoot it? Or was that someone else that ends up having to build/buy something to shoot after the intial purchase becomes spoken for? New rule submission for approval "first to the door gets right of refusal on the weapon/accessory/ammunition!!!" <lmao> Russ

I have the jp low mass bcg with silent captured spring. Impressions are great so far, but having not shot it yet (its getting its cerakote while i wait on the upper action block to come so i can torque the barrel on) (yeah, forgot to order that until last week). I owe a review on my scope to another topic here, will add as objective of an evaluation (plus some sure nuff biased opinions i imagine ;D) as i can manage to here if itll help in your decision. Russ

The handguard unscrews from the barrel nut, (a good strap wrench worked for me when I helped a friend with his handguard replacement and then put it on mine). Once you're left with the barrel nut, i recommend the barrel nut wrench for the 308 dpms barrel nut (strap wrench doesn't have quite the bite to get that loosened). Most freefloat hanguard options out there use a barrel nut that's different, and will likely come with it's own wrench. Just make sure whatever you pick out is for dpms 308 pattern threads. Grats on the good deal, and Welcome :) <thumbsup> Russ

If the man above doesn't buy it all, i could stand some. I'll buy as many as 300 if you end up with that many. Russ

I don't know why anyone would need it...

If they made it would you have gotten it?
tolbndfishin replied to usspfnorman's topic in .308AR Parts
If i wanted a regular gas block, yes. without a doubt. For my 308, Im going to keep the gap for now because i'm waiting on a syrac ord adj in .850". What i would prefer is that midwest ind starts making a dpms 308 thread barrel nut for my mega 308 so i can mount the 15" ff ss hand-guard to cover the GB altogether. Since that's not an option, i would prefer a gas block that didn't have the gap, that isn't cost prohibitive. Not gonna happen on the 308, though. For future builds (like the three ar15s im about to start looking for parts and then put together), yes, I would buy it. It's an annoyance that doesnt REALLY matter, but bugs me enough I'd have to do something about it if i could. ;D Russ -
Gas block with rifle length maten mono rail
tolbndfishin replied to usspfnorman's topic in Building a .308AR
I havent done what i'm about to suggest, but we're brainstorming, so why not. To cover the gap (cause i'm completely with you there lol) you could get something manufactured that actually extends your handguard a bit. With the correct size Aluminum tube, and turned to fit inside of the existing tube with some way of expanding the fit (for a tight friction fit), or recessing a couple screws through the monolithic tube into the extension. You could probably get that manufactured long enough to cover the gas block, or even play with the shapes a little, if the machinest is willing and capable, so it's a sort of "cradle" for the gas block that might not cover it on the top, but obscures it on the sides and bottom. Just trying to get the creative imagination going. Russ -
I agree with wash. Don't make your first foray into hunting be a self guided hunt on public land. If you dont have any trustworty friends to take you hunting, go guided to get a feel for how you'd enjoy it. Im sure with a little looking, you could find the right hunt for you. Russ

Played with a MIAD, very nice. I have a command arms G27 (unfortunately discontinued now) and it is my favorite. My next purchase will be the interchangeable one they make: UPG16. Not sure about the new model, but the G27 doesnt quite fit flush where it meets the trigger guard on some lowers (but not every one), it leaves the corners of the trigger guard to rub/aggravate your finger. On my MATEN, if i look for it, i can see it, but it fits better and i cant make it rub in normal shooting. I'm hoping the UPG16 fixes this problem, but even if it's identical, i won't care. I really like the Ergo grips as well, but the command arms is my favorite. Russ

I bet they're both pretty good ( i know the rcbs is). My first reloading was done on a friend's rcbs, and he still uses the same one 10 years later. If he's replaced parts, I can't say, but he hasn't bought a new single stage to replace it. I started with the Lee kit (MY first press). I used it for about 1500 rounds or so over a couple years with no problems, and haven't done much reloading since, because I've been using military ammo in a military weapon for 80% of my shooting in the last three years, or shotgun for ducks and doves the rest of it. I pulled it out about a month ago, just haven't put it back on a bench yet, because my wood lathe is in the way, and it's getting close to duck season again :P I need more days in the week <dontknow> Can't speak to the Hornady other than reputation, but i bet someone here will chime in with actual experience to try and help. i think you're all pretty nuts, so nowhere <lmao> Seriously though, it comes up in conversation on a halfway regular basis, have a couple friends that lurk but havent joined yet, and two more that intend to join once they get off duty from all this Isaac mess. All four were inspired once i sent them a pic of my 308 Mutt build. Work, range, and shooting practice, 308ar.com get's brought up. Russ

Another option would be to give Dave Branson at BBshooting a call, he usually has some in stock, and will discuss them a bit with you. Great guy to chat with, and to help you go broke lmao. About to purchase more parts for a third black rifle build from him :cookoo: Btw, the cheaper ALG is also pretty doggone nice (installed it last nite for a little dry firing) and it's 15 dollars cheaper. I still think the ACT is a better option of the two, but if the budget is really tight, don't for one second think you'll be disappointed. The ACT breaks a little cleaner (could be my choice of springs though, if i change them to compare apples to apples, i'll let ya'll know). They're both nice and smooth. Russ

I consider it a great trigger, but it's not something i consider a replacement for the Geisselle, per-se. If you have an actual budget, it fills the role very nicely (it's quality, for sure). For the money it's much better than other less expensive triggers I've tried and gives you a bit more money to spend on other stuff. The 3gun is definitely a better trigger, though, and worth the pennies if you can spend them. You WILL notice the difference. Just my experiences and 2 cents... Russ

Definitely worth the 60 bucks. I, like george, put a jp spring kit in it (12 bucks). I'm giving it a thorough run through in my Maten before I put it in my father's ar15 build. For now it's waiting for it's first range trip. I used the red hammer spring and the yellow trigger spring, but i think I'll go to the bronze for the trigger spring when i move it to the 15. It has a VERY smooth take-up, and the break is so clean <thumbsup> It's a stark contrast to my competition rifle, which has to be a stock M16 (like a bag full of grits or sand permanently molded to the trigger :cookoo:) :P. I also have the basic ALG (the $45 dollar one) and upon close inspection, seems to be quite well crafted too. Definitely a recommendable trigger. Russ

Geissele Super 3 gun or Geissele Super Dynamic 3 gun ?
tolbndfishin replied to jeffreyC's topic in Triggers
They are both awesome, and if you are a trigger snob (i consider this a good thing, so those of you that are, dont take this negatively ;D), you'll develop a preference of one over the other. If you genuinely don't already care btwn two stage or single, straight or curved, it'll be a toss up. I prefer the SD, tbh, but promise i would not pull the other out of any rifle i had it in to trade, cause it's just a good dilemma to be in to have to choose btwn those. <thumbsup> I have shot them both, but not recent enough with either to say much in order to clarify why with details other than I love the straight trigger of the SD, and will not be dropping that kind of money myself on any curved trigger again. I consider that a personal preference, and know one of my shooting trainers hates straight triggers, but still shoots mine because of the quality of the trigger. Russ -
M110. KAC-produced 308 with a 20" semi-heavy barrel. The profile is .875" at the gas block, not .936" as with true heavy barrels. I just bought a krieger in this contour, but havent assembled yet to shoot, only to check fitting of everything. I consider it a bit heavy for a hunting rifle barrel, but isn't unbearable. Lugging it through rough terrain i might think different, although that isnt the primary purpose for this rifle, so no worries. Russ

Thanks. Gotta love hurricane alley. I've been on some semblance of 18 hour days since this thing was about to hit. Everything's kind of winding down right now, but there's still a lot to be done. I'll never understand when people are told there's going to be 8 feet of water and it turns out there's 8 feet of water, why it's someone elses fault and responsibility to get them out while right in the middle of it. (I only refer to people perfectly capable, just too stubborn to leave). That being said, i do feel bad that they have to go through the trouble of losing their houses in the first place and have to rebuild. But it's the way of life when you live in areas where it happens so easily. Thanks again for the well wishes. Russ

whats your opinion of the swfa 20x scope
tolbndfishin replied to blwn99x's topic in Optics & Mounts, BUIS,Sights
As soon as I'm able, will get as useful of an evaluation as I can manage (Im not a scope reviewer, only a shooter, which I find usually gives better practical information anyway). Likely to be three weeks before I get out and put some real time in (assuming no issues with the cerakoting/building). I don't have any high dollar scopes to compare to either beyond PAST experience with various leupolds, so the evaluation will be based on what i find with it's function through my eyes. Russ -
whats your opinion of the swfa 20x scope
tolbndfishin replied to blwn99x's topic in Optics & Mounts, BUIS,Sights
Purpose for the rifle? Thats the scope I have on order, but itll be a couple weeks before i can hope to use it (hurricaine screwed up my next two weeks). I know the 10x is a great piece of glass, especially for the money. I have not looke through the 20 yet at any range past 60 feet, so cant say anything about that. If you ever plan to do anything with it besides punch paper and steel, 20x might be a lot of scope, maybe even too much. As far as the brand/model is concerned, i cant find any objective information that makes me want to buy something else. Russ
