Well the bolt catch cracked in 1/2 anyways. Then the set screw wouldn't come out because it too was a POS and was stripped out. So I have a new stainless set screw on the way, but still deciding what to do about the bolt catch. I'm guessing CMMG will replace it, but do I want to put another piece of junk bolt catch in there. I mean It didn't even last one round! Ok that and the grip, I mean it has one but I don't like it much, I want something wider but not sure if I want one with a shelf.
  2. Is the A-Series the one I want then? I don't know which armalite would work. I just read the Si defense is about $78 WTH! edit - they don't even make them anymore... Ok, so for the armalite Bolt Catch, its $31 because it's $15 to ship the $16 part... Damn...seems pricey, and does not appear any different than the CMMG one I used in the area where it broke (the narrow area between the lever and the catch.
  3. I have an M223, but I would get the Viper PST and learn the mill system if I could do it over again for my 223 ar. Nikon will work for 100 yards no problem though. Actually I'd be looking at picking up a Bushnel so I could have the G2 reticle on both my scopes, it's just out of your price range though at $800.
  4. I love the 35mm Addmount but decided against using spacers, and their 34mm version is just ok. Still a good mount by all means but there was allot of improvements to the 35mm version. I doubt I'd bother upgrading at this point because I am very happy with the JP mount. Here' a picture of the JP mount I ended up with. 308_7 by Glamisduner, on Flickr
  5. I was thinking it was a bad ass Keychain accessory / conversation piece. If anyone has one would it mount well to a Keyring via the hole? They I could easily mount my keys to my AR too such that I don't lose them. lol Or would that me mounting my AR to my Keys hmmm.
  6. what is the hole for?
  7. I'm afraid to post on facebook from work. maybe I can find it on my phone or something though.
  8. I have 5 pmags on backorder for 3 months not, no idea if I will end up with the old or new ones. Right now I'm using ASC 10 rounders. Reviews on brownells are hit and miss. One guy says it will not fit right on his DPMS style AR, but worked fine on his mega. http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/bolt-parts/bolt-hardware/bolt-releases/ar-15-m16-ar-style-308-extended-bolt-release-prod31943.aspx
  9. Well I want to use pmags, but this is an LR 308 rifle not an armalite, so still not sure which one to choose. Will it hold up though? Is it worth it? This is more of a bench gun that weights 16.5 lbs..
  10. Nice, I will call SI tomorrow. Where can I get an armalite bolt catch? I see them on armalites website but they have 2 versions. Which one will work for me? http://www.armalite.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=10203100&Category=93c41860-4ca2-43ee-8ca9-dc09b1a5bf2c http://www.armalite.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=11203100&Category=93c41860-4ca2-43ee-8ca9-dc09b1a5bf2c
  11. Finally completed my LR308 style rifle, ill post pics somewhere I guess. I took it out and broke it on the first shot. I loaded one round to test fire and the bolt catch broke in 2 on the first shot. it was a CMMG bolt catch. Then I went to remove it and the head on the bolt catch set screw was stripped out :( Got it out with a broken bolt extract and a wrench. So now, do I request the 2 replacement parts from CMMG or is there something better? Especially the set screw, I don't want that to strip out again I freaked out when I wasn't able to remove it, and it stripped out super easy when it stripped. I only used 2 fingers to tighten it...
  12. I like my RRA 2-stage, but I have only had it for about 4 years now and only fired probably 4k rounds though it. If it ever fails and becomes a single stage I'll try to warranty it but it seems like a good value for the money to me. I sent my CCMG 2-stage back to be modified, it is still way way stiffer than the RRA, but I haven't actually fired it yet, its about the same trigger pull as a mil spec.... I think I paid about $60-$80 for the RRA 2-stage since it came with my parts kit and IMO it is a good value. No it is not as nice as the SR-gold but I could buy several of them for the same price too. When I purchased the RRA trigger I was aware that some day it might have problems, but most of the posts online seem to be about people asking questions about the "problem" rather than experiencing it. I'm sure it will eventually wear out but so far it has been great, and I wouldn't hesitate to get another. I expect my barrel will get replaced before the trigger.
  13. What scope are you going to use? If I had a 30mm or 35mm scope tube I would definately get the AAD mount. EASY decision for me. Because they do not have the updated model in 34mm my decision is much harder. Theres always the Spuhr but it is overkill for me and I don't want to spend $450+ on a mount. IMO the AAD as good or better than the spuhr for my use, I was set on using it too which I was going to get a razor HD. Now that I have a 34mm tube, my options are not as good (although there may be more of them). The Centerline changes per scope ring size with the ADM mount. For a 34mm tube it is 1.55". Also there's different heights of various uppers, and for me I don't have that rail sticking up in front of the upper either, which would allow me to get even closer to the barrel if I desired. All things someone should take into consideration. I was about to get the badger 1.30" centerline mount, but ended up ordering the JP one piece 34mm mount. Apparently I also accidentally ordered the ADM mount but I think I will send it back.
  14. So I got my SR gold installed. I must have done it wrong because I didn't need to modify anything? I can't wait to try it out!
  15. Ok so I thought the ADM was too high in the 34mm variety because the centerline is at 1.55". Contacted Bobro and they informed me the centerline is 1.620" I know Larue has some lower profile models, so that is certainly something they have going for them. The JP is tall too at 1.5" Now I'm trying to decide between Larue SPR-S with a 10moa cant and a Nightforce non QD mount with 20moa cant that both have only a 1.44" centerline. The Larue is cheaper even though it is a QD mount. Maybe a Badger mount, but I don't know if they are aluminum or stianless yet. They have one that is 1.3" which will work perfect if it is aluminum.
  16. Yea, it was from a popular online scope store representative. Said they have to much side to side play when it came to heavy scopes (Maybe he meant when re-mounting?) I was kind of surprised too so I started to search. Only thing I found was one guy said that when adjusted as per instructions his scope would shift from side to side, so he simply re-adjusted it super tight to the point where it is no longer QD, and that solved his problem. I have a couple larue mounts for a bipod and one for a FTS magnifier that work fine but it did concern me since this is my first large scope (over 2lbs). The problem I'm having now is that the JP mount is only $160 bucks, for a little more I can get the larue QD mount. then the price jumps $100 for the Bobro, at which point it is only $75 more to get the Sphur. Other people suggest I simply buy a 20moa rail and then pickup some rings in case I want to use the scope on another rifle later. I can't decide, but only $160 for the JP mount...only $160 bucks compared to other solutions, and I don't know how much they buy me. QD is nice for me when storing in my safe, but not a required. I won't be running BUIS on this gun.. Bolting a rail to a rail and then rings to that rail does not seem like the most secure option, but I bet it works perfectly fine. I'm feeling QD is really over hyped but the Bobro is a good fit now that they put the studs on the top, otherwise how to you torque them down properly? I believe you, but is it $100 better than the Larue? It could easily cover the cost of 2 JP mounts as well. I wish I knew what the centerline height over the rail is for it, but its not listed on their website.
  17. I put a syrac on my AR15 it works great, I like to not have to use locktight. I swear that once adjusted my brass was coming out at the 4-5 o'clock position though, but it certainly seems to screw the brass up less, and not send it flying away nearly as hard. For my AR though the barrel is .936 diameter so the syrac isn't even close. I don't know why they don't make them in more sizes :( I also wanted the adjustment on the front so that I would not have to screw with my 15.5" handguard that covers it up. Wilson Combat had just the thing. Very similar quality to syrac in machining, materials and finish, but I will have to use locktight once I figure it out (I'm not even sure there would be room for a detente the tolerances are damn tight (maybe that's why syrac hasn't come up with one yet?). It isn't the preferred clamp on style, but machined well enough that I'm hoping to not have any issues with the bolt on kind. It just BARLEY clears the JP handguard, I don't think a clamp style would work for this anyways because they are typically larger.
  18. I stand corrected, I just received an email that Bobro already has created a 34mm mount with 20moa base. I think it's like $325 though.
  19. I really wanted the Aadland mount, but I would have to use spacers for my 34mm tube scope :( Now I'm looking at Sphur, but I need someone to convince me that it is worth the money because it is damn expensive. I don't care about QD I care about having a super solid mount. The Aadland with spacers is still an option, it just seems like I'm paying alot for something that requires a spacer....I emailed them and they told me they might be producing a 34mm mount in 6-9 months, but that is a long time to wait to mount my scope... I'm looking at the JP mount too it is under $200, I know it is not as nice but is it good enough? I don't think Bobro makes a 20moa cantelever mount with 34mm rings so I tossed them out quick. Other people have suggested Badger ordinance or nightforce mounts, but I'm not sure I like they way they attach to the rail? Or is their mechanism good enough? I guess Larue would be nice, I own a couple of their QD mounts but I' not sure I would want it marking the rail on my matched upper receiver. if I had a regular forged upper I would probably just get that because it would be more easily replaced if I so desired. Then again I have also heard that Larue mounts don't work well with heavy scopes? The American Defense mount is also an option, but I don't like the vertical rings, and heard some people dislike the latches. It also puts the scope up a little higher than others mentioned, and I want it as close to the barrel as possible. Then again I would like QD to make storing in my safe easier...Hmmm I can't decide!
  20. I just went through the same thing and ended up with a Bushnell XRS, I decided I would rather have more magnification as an option than illumination. I have never needed illumination before. I had my finger on the trigger to buy the Razor HD but I like the G2 reticle better, and after handeling a PRS (not the razor though), I liked the busnell turrets better and the excellent things I have read about tracking and holding 0 on it from people that own much more expensive scopes that have made the switch. The glass on the razor HD might be a little better but I decided Tracking, and Holding 0 was more important (not to say that the razor HD can't do this), since both offered good glass the G2 reticle won me over (its a scope not a camera or after all). I don't like the hold over dots as much as I like lines, and I like the .2 mill spaced lines instead of solid bars on the axis. So for the same price as a razor HD I get 4.5-30x FFP and a better reticle (to me), at the cost of illumination that I would probably never use. Now 30x might not be that suefull but its there if i want it. I heard the SS is good too, just didn't care for the reticle. Oh yea and they were $300 off on LibertyOptics right now which gave me the final shove in the Bushnell direction.
  21. Decided to cancel my order, because as soon as they become available no one would want to buy it from me and i would get stuck with it. At least I got screwed last time there was a parts shortage and ended up with an extra YM N/M BCG that I ended up selling for cheap. Rifle is completed minus optics now though :) Paid $100 more for the JP BCG, which other than a little weight savings probably works as well as any other. It cost as much as the barrel at MSRP which seems ridiculous. Oh well at least it easily headspaced I guess. For those waiting the Harris Tatical BCG's are supposed to arrive Friday, bummer their first order was damaged in shipping, but it is a good thing that they refused it.
  22. I'm putting a 24" HB on mine, I don't care if it is heavy...
  23. Just an update: I ended up going with the wilson combat adjustable gas block. The finish is nice and it hasa frontal gas adjustment screw so that the handguard will not interfear. That said I also picked up a syrac ordinance gas block for my AR15. The Syrac block is a work of art. The precision of the machining is amazing. The Wilson combat has a similar fit an finish to the Syrac, but I'm not sure abou tit because it only has a set screw option. I'm hoping the clamp on style of the Syrac block eliminates my short stroking issue on my AR-15 (Had a troy LP gas block on there before). It seemed SUPER secure. I hope I don't have any issues with the wilson block being a set screw style like the troy... I don't have the JP Handguard yet because they are backordered for another month or so still. But once I get it I will confirm that it fits properly.
  24. Cali :(
  25. Running out of room in the safe, and long gun registration starts next year so it seems unlikely. I'd probably be better off getting a bolt action or something. Hell I still need to fund the scope for this thing somehow...
