Thanks for the info guys, I looked into those sources and didn't end up getting anything. Its pretty sad that thats all there is out there.

Just wanted to know if anyone has had any luck finding any brass lately. New or once fired. Can't find anything, thanks.

Awesome, thanks for the info! I knew joining this forum would be a good thing. Its priceless to be able to tap into a vast wealth of knowledge. The tests that were performed, and the amount of data provided is incredible. That would have been a fun test to be part of! From a cost point it does show that it would be cheaper to shoot steel and buy to new replacement barrels compared with shooting brass over the same amount of time. However, since I have a tightly chambered DPMS lr.308 I will probably stick with brass since I hear they don't like steel anyway. Anyone else no this to be true? How does this stuff shoot, Prvi Partizan 168gr HPBT Match? Again, thanks for all the info, this is a great resource!

Thanks Matt, So since steel is a harder metal it would overtime produce more wear and tear inside the chamber? That makes sense I guess, any idea on how significant of wear that is? I mean is that going to reduce the life of your chamber by 5%, 25%....?

I searched this on the forum and came up with some steel vs brass talk from last year. Im not trying to rehash any of that. I just want to know if any of you use/ or would use these bullets in your .308's. I know Hornady has a good reputation and I have used and like there other bullets ( even if Im not supposed to run them in my lr.308, they worked just fine) so I would hope these bullets are decent. Thoughts?

Hornady Superformance Ammunition in Gas Operated Firearms
.308LiteHunter replied to imschur's topic in Ammunition
Thanks for taking the time to explain that. I'll carry on with my plan to get both. Wish there were a few more options for a railed adjustable gas-block, Ive only seen a couple. -
Hornady Superformance Ammunition in Gas Operated Firearms
.308LiteHunter replied to imschur's topic in Ammunition
Why can't you run a heavy buffer with an adjustable gas block? If you adjust the gas down to low it negates the heavy buffer? Im just curious because I was thinking about purchasing both but sounds like one or the other. And BTW you pic is damn distracting! -
Well I took 98Z5V's advise and turned my scope mount around, and the charging handle work just fine. Got some good range time in and got the scope somewhat close to what it was. Not real concerned since Im working up a handload for it and will have to fine tune it then. Shooting off a bipod was very nice and that MOE rifle stock is awesome!

How does that PRI compare? I have a Miculek on mine, loud as all get out but seems to work well.

Thanks. Federal Fusion 150gr.

Hey Wash- That is a sweet looking rifle. What kind of brake is that on it? I could lose weight with a lighter stock, but I gotta say I love the cheekweld on this one! Hey Magwa, I was wondering when someone was going to ask about that shot... It was the end of the day and my buddy and I were driving down this road just about to leave the area we were hunting when we saw these 2 goats crest a hill and come down it about 50 yards. They stopped when they saw the vehicle, and I said to my friend " How far do you think that is?" He says " About 500 yrds" and I said "bullpoopy thats 400 tops" Obviously we have no range finder. Well the goats continued to stare so I said " I think I can make that shot" I got out and walked toward them a little ways and sat down. Now I have a long range recticle that has a couple mill dots under the cross-hairs so when zeroed at 200 the first dot is 300,the second 400, and the third 500. Well the goat is facing directly at me and I figure, I have head, neck and chest to hit depending on bullet drop. I place the third dot just a little over its head and pull the trigger. It drops like someone kicked its feet out from under it. So, if you read that correctly I placed the third dot just over its head, however I thought it was only about 400 away so I really should have used the second dot. So, thats the story. I used the wrong mill dot and got a head shot <thumbsup> The only reason I actually know how far it was is because my buddy had a gps in his car and we plotted a point were I shot it, drove up to the antelope and read the distance, otherwise we would still be arguing how far it was.

What! More range time! Who wants that? ::) Yeah I should probably turn it around one of these days. I like your idea with the trigger I have heard great things about Geissele I will have to look into that particular one. I have a 2 stage trigger on it right now, 1st stage 1-3/4 pounds and 2nd stage is 4-1/2 pounds, I like it but then again I haven't tried a Geissele!

I found out after I zeroed it ,and had been shooting with it a while that it was on backwards. I don't think Ill change it because it shoots well now, and as Matt said it provides better access to the charging handle.

Hey all, When I first joined this forum about a month back, I was kind of all over the place asking questions and looking for info. If I would have taken time to view this forum a little more I could have started here. Anyway, I have talked with some of you already, and you have been a great help as I seek to improve upon my rifle. Which like the title says is a .308 Lite Hunter by DPMS. I feel this gun is awesome, but Im predjudice as the owner, and inxperienced as this is my first and only AR platform. I will say this, it has help me take down elk and antelope with no problem, being very versitile and lightweight. Longest shot to date is 586yrd headshot on an antelope. Im now learning how many add-ons there are to these weapons and all though fun and exciting, it can be overwhelming with technical data and what fits what platform so this forum is a Godsend! So I wanted to post a pic of my gun to date. I just added a BCM charging handle, Harris Bipod, and switched out my A2 stock for a Magpul MOE rifle stock. One of the purposes of posting the pic is to see what or how you would modify this gun. -Primary purpose is hunting -Hunting distance, as much as I can get out of my optic 3x9x50 Leupold Long range recticle -Im developing handloads and so Im considering using an adjustable gas block -I would also like to incorporate some backup sites -Loaded with a 4 round mag it weighs 10.5 lbs, like to keep it close to that Well, there you have it, and here it is.

DPMS308 FEEDING PROBLEMS
.308LiteHunter replied to charlie52usaf's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
I soaked my BCG in Slick 50. I picked up a new Gunfighter CH and everything seems to be working better, still would like it to be smoother but maybe this is as good as it gets. -

I like the idea of soaking in Mobile 1. So that would be the entire BCG, broken down or whole, and anything else go in the oil? -
DPMS308 FEEDING PROBLEMS
.308LiteHunter replied to charlie52usaf's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Edge, everything is stock. I have yet to build. Its a lr .308 DPMS. Robo, thanks Ill, give that a try. I know this is on the forum several places, but to save some time searching...what do you guys like for lubrication, and do you use any on the charging handle. ( Someone is going to have fun with that line ;D ) -
I've had good results with Hornady 150gr GMX on antelope and also a nice cow elk. I was also quite impressed with Federal Fusion which bagged an antelope at just shy of 600yards. Im working on some handloads with Hornady 168gr AMAX and some Varget, hopefully going to the range next week and can give some results.

short length of pull fixed stock options
.308LiteHunter replied to guidedmiscle's topic in Building a .308AR
So ditch the 5/8" spacer, use the shorter screw that comes with the MOE stock. If I want the A1/A2 receiver extension ( this is for LOP ?) I'll know where to pick one up. Is it noticeably heavier than the A2, and hows the cheekweld? Thats one of the main reasons I want to get one. -
short length of pull fixed stock options
.308LiteHunter replied to guidedmiscle's topic in Building a .308AR
Ive been thinking about getting one of these to replace my A2, hoping to get a better cheekweld. They are a direct swap for the A2 right? Has anyone tried the recoil pad on the MOE? -
+1 on Hogue

I got mine, and so did a friend, but have another friend who hasn't gotten his yet.

DPMS308 FEEDING PROBLEMS
.308LiteHunter replied to charlie52usaf's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
I have this happen on my gun as well, but it hasn't effected bullet accuracy at least when hunting (haven't shot on paper with them). I unseat the round when Im done in the field, move to anther area, spot an antelope, load up that round and bag some jerky. On a side topic, I think my CH (DPMS stock) should be alot easier to pull back. I've greased the snot out of it, and the gun only has about 130 rounds through it ( I've heard the spring needs broke in) but seriously its a mother. Any suggestions?
