Where would you start, if using the load data given above? I was thinking of loading a few groups of 39.5-40.5-41.5 and going from there.
-
My hunting load is 155Amax on top of 43g of R12. Since that powder has been discontinued I need a replacement. I picked up some Varget and IMR4895 from my lgs. Looking at the load data in the Hornady manual the ranges are Varget. 35.9-42.6 and 37.6-41.8 (service rifle) IMR 4895. 37.7-43 and 37.6-42.2 (service rifle) This data was obtained over the phone from a friend's manual, not sure what edition. Ive checked other manuals and for 150-155g projos the max loads seem to be higher. I'm pretty sure my gun will like these loaded toward the upper end of the range but these seem to low. What am I missing? Or this old data?

CAR-10 Buffers - BLEMS - Discounted While They Last
.308LiteHunter replied to Slash's topic in Heavy Buffers
Just wanted to send out a huge thank you to Clint for helping me out with my order. I purchased one of the blemishes buffers without doing my due diligence. The buffer was the wrong one for my gun. It clearly states that all sales are final, but Clint didn't want me to be stuck with an unusable buffer and went above and beyond and offered me a discount on the correct buffer. Thanks for being such a class act! -
For home defense I go with the Astra Cub...packing 6 rds of fear inducing plated round nose .22 short bullets. My plan is for the intruder to laugh hysterically at the sight of it, which will gain me the few seconds needed to shoot out his family jewels. Ill need to do some balistics testing, Im sure it will penetrate at least one layer of cotton but Im going for double that. Waiting for some Hornady TAP... :auto:

Thanks for the link. I think I'll grab a few 3 inch rails, I'd like to put on a front site, a bipod and have a place for a sling attachment as well. Love my CF handguard, backed over it with my pickup, still good to go.
-
The rails look like they turned out great. I have a very simiar handguard and would like to add the PRI rails as well. I couldn't find the rails on there website so I contacted them to point me in the right direction. How have they held up, and do they mount secure enough for a bi-pod?

CAR-10 Buffers - BLEMS - Discounted While They Last

Ill take one if they are still available? -
I challenged myself to make fire, and you are right it is hard. It is also very rewarding and worth trying. I used the bow drill method and it took me close to 6 hrs and a lot of sweat. The second time took about 30 minutes. It's something you have to do, you can't just read about it. I'd like to try the hand drill method soon, and I'm going to notch the top of the drill and hang some paracord off of it to make thumb loops. If you use it this way you can spin the drill without running your hands up and down it and get blisters (supposedly).

Putting "the shim", or a shim? Don't think one came with mine. What do you use to shim?
-
That makes sense. Although it's hard to believe it wore down so fast. I call Lee and see what they say. What is causing the pin to wear down, the friction against the bottom of the case?
-
Good to know. I picked up a set of RCBS AR dies to reload for.my lr .308 and it uses a SB die. Out of curiosity, any one used the RCBS X dies, supposedly they eliminate the need for trimming brass even after several reloads.
-
Got it, thanks.
-
Ha, I wish I had someone to blame it on... I bet that's what happened with mine. I took the rod out and wiped it off, probably loosened up the expander ball allowing the pin to get loose in there.
-
Not the pin, the actual rod bent where the expander ball screws on... No worries RCBS is shipping me a new one, no questions asked.

I was referring to this post from earlier when I mentioned the brass lengths being different. Hdbiker1, What are you suggesting that I measure, and for what purpose? Thanks for the input and help.
-
Thx, that sounds like a good explination. The lengths of the brass are all over the place, some don't need trimming, and some are 2.025 so im guessing some were definitely fired from a machine gun. On a side note I bent my decapping rod while sizing and de-priming a piece of LC brass. Should I be depriming first and then running them through my SB sizing die? It worked fine for several hundred but was definitely harder than brass without a crimped primer.?

My lee case length trimmer started off good. I even have 2 cutters, the metal one that tears up your hands after a while, and the nice wooden ball handled one. Both cutters started trimming down to 2.005 and after only a dozen cases or so they now trim to 2.000. I'm wondering if the cutter blades wore down some? I'm currently looking for a more accurate trimmer this style. I like to put the brass in a drill chuck attachment and use the lee trimmer, but I'd like better results. Probably get what you pay for....

Good to know. I checked the head stamp and all but 2 of the cases with lines were stamped LC 11 (I've found about 30). So far only one case that is definitely scrap. I've been getting great accuracy with 155 A max and 43grains of R-12, Win brass. Ill need to work up something new since R-12 is not made anymore. I was looking for some R-15 but ended up with some IMR 4895 and Varget if anyone has any load recommendations for 155s. I'm also going to try some 180 Sierra spitzer, and also a low recoil load with 125 Nosler ballistic tips. I was happy to see the other topic on reloading less powder in military brass or not, I had been wondering about that myself. Thanks again gentleman!

I purchased 500rds of once fired LC brass and while sorting through them I noticed that many of them have a shallow line right at the bottom of the shoulder where it meets the main part of the case. The "line" only goes half way at most around the case and some are worse than others. Anyone seen this before? Are these still good to use? Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the link. I was looking at this on PSA as well, is it a decent deal? PTAC 16" 1:9 A4 Upper w/ YHM Diamond Rifle Rail, BCG, and Charging Handle http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ptac-16-1-9-a2-upper-w-yhm-diamond-rifle-rail-bcg-and-charging-handle.html

Build them both, and which ever one your wife doesn't want I'll buy for "my wife" :D Edit- Went back and re-read some of the posts I had been following and ran across my comment ^^^^^^ I obviously skimmed this post way to fast and assumed you were joking about a build for the wife. My bad, I feel like an idiot.

That is badass buddy!

I found some good stuff on there as well, thanks for the info!
