  1. I read his whole review but he lost credibility when he said he put the VG on upside down...
  2. I ordered some bulk 9mm today and snagged a DPMS mag on my order. Yes these are aluminium like their 556 mags. The DPMS is steel. They were only $6.99 more.
  3. I think we were talking about the baffles as the bullet first exits the barrel. The first hole it passes through is the largest then they taper down to the final exit point on the brake.
  4. You know, that's a good point. The others really didn't look "Great" either and they all feel VERY rough. I have some other steel AR mags and they feel smooth. This is like a hand dipped or sprayed coating. They are stamped "BROWNELLS" on the side and bottom. I think it said 1/14 or something. I should've taken a picture. yeah, overall, probably wouldn't recommend these. Should have just got two lol.
  5. I thought for sure the first hole was larger but it does look like they taper down. I wonder what the engineering reason is for that?
  6. So here are some pics. Luckily, the first mag i pulled out has a HORRIBLE coating job on it. the other two are fine. I sent brownell's these pictures and am waiting for their response. They load well and lock back on empty. I think this one is just a fluke. It looks way worse in person than the pictures.
  7. Can't run the drill straight through in a drill press? This unit is very precisely machined unlike most brakes I've seen.
  8. Looks like you'll have to drill the last two ports. First one is larger it looks like.
  9. I believe there is plenty of room to open it up. I can take a closer look tonight and PM you some pictures. I may have another pic, let me check.
  10. I didnt know they made the Gamma in 556 actually. I think the epsilon has some flash prongs added is the difference. I had a linear comp before and the difference is night and day. Shoots like a d@mn 22 now. I threw half a mag downrange at 100 yards shooting off a crappy plastic table just to see how it handled. It's sighted in at 200 yards so it's shooting a bit high of course. Pretty tight group for just squeezing them off. (18" 556 with VG Epsilon comp)
  11. what barrel length did you end up getting? Ive dabbled in the 18-20" stuff but go 16" on most everything now including my 308 build. FPS loss is pretty negligible going from an 18-16 and the 16"s have no problem at 500-800 yards. The added weight/length just starts getting old (not usually the case i know) As far as a muzzle brake goes, Im VERY impressed with VG Precision. Im running their "Gamma" on my Aero build. I liked it so much, i read dozens of reviews and watched countless youtube comparisons before ordering their "Epsilon" on my 18" 556. The Gamme isn't terribly heavy either.
  12. maybe it was a supplier issue or the first batch they received did not meet quality control expectations, had issues feeding etc. All sorts of stuff can happen when you release a new product. I wouldn't turn from a reliable, trustworthy vendor because a product was delayed. Pmags are great, i have a few of them but the purpose of these is to have a mag that won't degrade or chip. These will go back in the safe for a long time. Anyway, they should deliver today. Ill get some pics of them up tonight. Plan to shoot them this weekend and test function.
  13. I'd rather have them fix bugs but anyway,i ordered three and some of their 556 mags. I'll report back when I receive them.
  14. Yeah, i figured standard capacity mags will go away in the next decade or less probably. Just trying to get something that will last a long time. I do love pmags tho...
  15. Brownells just released some AL 20 round mags. If you actually read the reviews, the guy who rated them poorly was trying to run them in a Scout which doesnt work. I was thinking about getting a few metal mags to chunk back in the safe. Any thoughts/experiences with these? http://www.brownells.com/magazines/rifle-magazines/magazines/20-round-308-7-62-ar-magazine-sku078000200-71942-126449.aspx?sku=078-000-200&cm_mmc=Email-_-Spop-Email-_-lm_12013412-_-www_brownells_com_magazines_ri&cm_lm=miked.oneil@gmail.com&cm_mmca1=BR_ProductAlerts_062615_308Mag%20(1)&spMailingID=12013412&spUserID=Mjg4ODIyNzQwNTES1&spJobID=523920558&spReportId=NTIzOTIwNTU4S0
  16. I have no idea how i got mine so quickly. I ordered it two days into the sale i think. I did a lot of reading before ordering. Waiting for gun stuff is unbearable!!!!!! Now Im anxious to see how his build looks/turns out. They were out of stock of the NiB BCGs when i ordered otherwise I would've got theirs but i REALLY love this Cryptic Coatings BCG. It makes NiB feel like sandpaper. Plus i like the wet black look on this particular gun with the black accents/grip.
  17. I just ordered a few boxes of gold match. Sadly, it will probably be two weeks before i can put them through it. After i ordered everything i read a few mixed reviews on the aero stuff so i was nervous at first especially when the first rounds were moving around but Im really happy with how it's shooting now. Aero has a really great value on this build. I was able to put a lot of quality components (SSA-E trigger, Cryptic Coatings BCG) etc for about what i would've bought a stock gun for.
  18. I went with the Anderson Manufacturing 308 buffer tube kit from Primary Arms. I'm going to get a JP silent captured spring for it next. I just wanted to get it running 100% before i started tinkering. did yours finally come in or are you just sourcing the last of the parts?
  19. Ha, guess i was little a blonde yesterday. Lot's going on at work. Thanks for the shooting tips. Hope to put a few more rounds through it in the next few weeks. That Cryptic Coatings BCG is the slickest thing I've ever felt! Makes NiB feel like sandpaper.
  20. Yes, it was tightening up with each mag of 20. It's going to get a very thorough barrel cleaning tonight. I got some 25 round mags but now i wonder why... i ALWAYS shoot prone lol, was just trying to get better grouping with the little table, go figure. Thanks for the tips guys. I think considering i was shooting off a bipod/table, it's going to do d@mn good. I'm happy with it.
  21. Just shooting prone you mean or bag it up some? Im trying to decide between a caldwell lead sled or some shooting bags. Looks like the rifle will perform well for an average shooter such as myself. Some people had said their Aero's weren't putting up good groups.
  22. Ah, my bad, i usually shoot steel. Ill do that in the future. thanks for the heads up. Build list: Aero M5 16" upper 1/10 twist SS barrel VG6 Precision Gamma 7.62 muzzle brake BCM Gunfighter mod 4 CH (had to file it a little bit for clearance on the lower) Cryptic Coatings 308 BCG in mystic black Burris PEPR 30mm scope ring with sightron 6-24x50 scope Primary Arms Keymod bipod mount Aero M5 enhanced lower Aero LPK Geissele SSA-E trigger (big improvement over SSA which is on my RRA gun) break is much lighter Magpul 1.1 MIAD grip (definitely easier to use than the 1.0) Magpul STR stock in FDE Anderson 308 buffer tube kit I have just under $1600 in it when I took the ammo/mags out of my order cost. Not bad considering all the components are top notch stuff (except the scope mount, need a better one). Ammo was just PMC bronze or whatever it is. I have some federal gold match coming. I was more just trying to see the ballpark i was in. Im going to order a rifle rest too.
  23. So I built my first LR308 or AR10 whatever the technical name is not to long ago. I was able to put a mag through it the next week in the pouring rain at my dad's farm but haven't been able to shoot it since. Finally got out there again last weekend. The gun.. I don't have a gun vise so this was just shooting off a cheap plastic table, bipod and using my rolled up shooting mat as a rear rest. 100 yards, hot as **** out, some south wind (shooting north). The Geissele SSA-E trigger is just amazing. Such a crisp break. It is described as a candy cane like break and i would say that's very accurate. My first groups were jumping all over the place. I was aiming at the bullseye and one shot would be 1-2" bottom right, the next shot would be 1-2" top left. It was EXTREMELY frustrating. Anyway, they started tightening up. It's no Larue OBR but I think it will get better and I'll get more used to it. Ill start stretching it out next time. Overall, I think I'm pleased for what i have in it. Cleaned the bore, next group tightened up a little.. did it again.. and last group was tolerable considering how i was shooting. My 18" AR15 for reference, i just put a mag through it, not trying super hard. It has a White Oak Armament Barrel and just added a VG Precision Epsilon Comp and wow... cuts the recoil to nothing. It's sighted in at 200 yards so it was shooting 2" high.
  24. why is this still a thread?
  25. very cool, thanks!
