  1. Weird, i thought i had ordered mine mid to end of sale. I know i researched it for a day or two before ordering. I ordered some shoot n see targets and plan to see how it groups this weekend. Ive got to get some bags or a mount. any recommendations on what is the best way to go?
  2. That's gotta be a serious boomstick!
  3. I used a 308 extension tube (not sure what the difference is) and the Aero LPK (i think they have one or two semi-proprietary parts). After all the weird stories I've read i just wanted to start with getting it running. I was pleasantly surprised. Ive had two mags through it without a single issue. BCG locks back with pmags. What is taking Aero so long with your upper? Mine shipped like two days after i ordered it.
  4. ^ This. Citizens and news were asking "why didnt they bring in the Guard to crush the riots?"
  5. that's not a hunting rifle, it's a sniper rifle!
  6. I think i paid $82 for it at primary arms.
  7. I was going to suggest the Cryptic Coating BCG. That coating on their BCG is downright amazing. I've got a few of the Lantacs with the new EXO NiB but the mystic black cryptic is harder and slicker feeling. Their customer service was also top notch too. Ill tell you what, I'd never seen a 308 bcg first hand. the Aero rep was telling me they needs tons of oil for the first few hundred rounds because it's a chunk o metal and man, they werent kidding. These things are a hunk of metal getting slung around in there. But you certainly cant go wrong with JP!!! Let us know how it runs. http://www.crypticcoatings.com/bolt-carrier-group-coatings/ shameless plug...
  8. I got to shoot my 308 this past weekend with the VG6 7.62 Gamma brake. I was really blown away by how little recoil it made the 308 have. Hardly any muzzle climb either. Very impressive brake. The machining and finish on it is top notch too and easy to clean unlike some other brakes I've had. I liked it so much, i ordered one of their 556 Epsilon brakes for my 556 18" gun. Good option for those looking.
  9. Small family... They should make moar babies...
  10. Who cares?. Unless you dabble in these, most don't know all the nuances.
  11. That price actually included $100 in pmags too so actual build price is about $1600.
  12. College what?. I've only got one small chillren. I just added it all up and I've got $1704 in it (already had scope and mount laying around). I'm pretty happy with that considering it's all high end parts from the SSA-E trigger, Cryptic BCG, VG6 muzzle brake etc. Those three parts alone are close to $600. So I could've done it for a lot less.
  13. i read these seemed to have horrible accuracy, something to do with the twist rate in most 308 barrels. Probably just stick with my hornady SST/VMAXs. That's a chuck 'o lead coming at them.
  14. I know it's overkill but it may turn into my coyote gun too lol... Sometimes they keep going after a 556 if it doesn't expand right. I think my 1/7 twist barrel is over-spinning the light little hornady vmaxs... I feel like they would not get up after getting smacked with a .308 147gr Hornady Vmax
  15. For comparison, here is the Cryptic coatings side by side with my lantac enhanced BCG
  16. I've been wanting an AR10 for some time and decided to try the Aero M5 16" upper. Im looking for a good hog gun that i can be consistent in the 400-600 yard range, maybe stretch to 800 on occasion. I have an 18" RRA 556 and don't like the longer gun for hunting and Ive read the FPS loss is pretty low on the 308 going from an 18 to 16. So here is the build list: Aero M5 16" upper 1/10 twist SS barrel VG6 Precision Gamma 7.62 muzzle brake BCM Gunfighter mod 4 CH (had to file it a little bit for clearance on the lower) Cryptic Coatings 308 BCG in mystic black Burris PEPR 30mm scope ring with sightron 6-24x50 scope Aero M5 enhanced lower Aero LPK Geissele SSA-E trigger (big improvement over SSA which is on my RRA gun) break is much lighter Magpul 1.1 MIAD grip (definitely easier to use than the 1.0) Magpul STR stock in FDE Anderson 308 buffer tube kit I know 308 builds can be finicky, especially during break in so i was anxious to get some rounds downrange. I went back to my farm last weekend to see my son, saw him saturday and thought, ill just shoot tomorrow. Of course, it rained all day sunday. Finally at 3pm i said heck with it and took it out in the pouring rain and put a mag downrange. I had lubed up the BCG with CLP pretty good, stuff was dripping out everywhere (per Aero's instructions). They said the BCGs are a lot of mass to cycle and they're right about that. Anyway, it ran flawless, no FTEs or FTFs and even locked back on the last round so Im pretty pleased. I can't comment on grouping yet. I was just trying to get the scope half dialed in but i had a few rounds that were pretty tight so I think it's promising. Im very happy with the VG6 muzzle brake. It is incredible on reducing recoil and muzzle rise. This thing does not shoot like a 308 at all, more like a slightly amped up 556. Here are some pics. I think my two complaints are the lower not fitting with the BCM CH, they need to shave .001' off it to fit and the color isn't true FDE. You can see a slight difference in it.
  17. Any coating/treatment makes BCGs soooooo much easier to clean. I picked up a toolcraft/cryptic coatings BCG for my 308 build and it's pretty d@mn impressive. Even the newer NiB coatings are better than the first gen. JP uses the QPC so it's gotta be good stuff. The mystic PVD coating is really worth checking out. It's the most impressive coating I've seen and i have a salient TiN BCG, two lantac enhanced BCGs with the newer exo NiB and some regular NiB bcgs.
  18. Wouldn't you say it's just semantics at that point?
  19. ha, glossed over that, sorry. i didnt know the lmt came in stainless/NiB.
  20. what BCG and muzzle brake are those? Looks sharp.
  21. I have a giessle GS2 on my long range 223 AR, big improvement over stock obviously and i prefer two stage for long range. I scored an SSA-E from primary arms on their memorial weekend sale for $192 while i was ordering some other stuff for my 308 build. Looking forward to seeing if i can feel the difference in the triggers. On a side note, i got a timney drop in 4lb and was blown away how fast i could shoot with it. Eventually got a SD3G after reading much into it and the tac-con 3 position. Honestly, i was disappointed with the SD3G. It's nice but not $280+ nice. Luckily i got it from PA on black friday for a lot less. I feel like the timney's are a better value for a single stage trigger.
  22. That's crazy someone bought it before you shot it. Im working on an aero build myself. Im liking my color choices judging by your pics.
  23. yeah, that always works... <thumbsup>
  24. Anyone running the VG6 Precision Gamme 7.62 brake? http://www.vg6precision.com/index.php?id_product=26&controller=product
  25. Mine shipped last week... Supposed to deliver to my FFL tomorrow with the lower. Everything else delivers thursday or friday. Here is to hoping my first 308 build runs right! 16" aero FDE upper VG6 Precision Gamma mUzzle brake Aero M5E lower FDE Aero LPK magpul MIAD black Magpul ACS FDE BCG Mod 4 charging handle Anderson 308 buffer tube kit Giessle SSA-E Cryptic coatings/Toolcraft BCG in mystic black (told me one month last week, called today and said they had a few come in) 100 rounds of PMC for sighting in 2-20 round pmags Gen3 2-25 pmags with window gen 3 I have a sightron 6-24x50 thats going on top...
