  1. I appreciate the input, I really like the carrier I have, just needed an excuse to grab the jp enterprises enhanced. According to the extremely helpful folks at proof research, the enhanced bolt is the go to bolt for the barrel extension on their barrels. Then if I find an issue with the next level carrier, It'll be easier to convince myself to switch to the lmos.
  2. Hey everyone, been a while. So the rifle is done, no fancy scope yet. I'm still breaking it in and learning a little bit. I'm not sold on the jp enterprises gas block. I'll be getting rid of it soon in favor of the slr adjustable block. I'm ditching the nlx 308 bolt in favor of the jp enterprises enhanced bolt as well. The NLX 308 extractor isn't holding onto the brass any more. So far I have about 150 rounds down range and as long as the thread protector doesn't work loose, it's good for 1/2 inch singular ragged hole at 100 yds. Haven't done much past that because it's not operating flawlessly yet. It's continuing to improve and the only problem right now is the newly developed extraction issue. For the record, the only reason I'm replacing the gas block is personal preference. The picture shows my rockin' Atlas bipod, 10lb Burris scope mount, and cheap BSA 4-12 scope. Thanks for the help along the way, I'll bug you with more questions as they arise.
  3. Oh man! Been a while since I've posted, been busier than a cat covered in peanut butter. Thanks for the update. I ended up going with the POF enhanced finger placement. I guess I'm glad I didn't buy that trigger group. Hopefully the problem is isolated to the one trigger. Keep us posted!
  4. Good call sir, couldn't be happier!
  5. I decided on the rra grip, it's a carbon copy of the hogue over molded grip but fits my receiver better somehow. Either way, looks great, feels great, and didn't cost a dime. My last order of parts will go in this week. After that, I need to decide on optics. I decided that I'm using it for NRA mid range prone tactical shooting in some spare time so my limits are at 12 power. I'm leaning on the Burris XTR 2 2-10 variable for it. We'll see how I feel in the coming weeks after wrestling season.
  6. Oh oh, I gotcha, it's more of a question on personal preference. My price limit may be anywhere from $1k-$2k.
  7. $200 is what I paid for it a couple years ago
  8. I should be fair, the bdc was spot on for average hunting (within 1moa) using the trophy bonded tip in my vanguard. So very useful at the price point.
  9. I have that one for my hunting rifle and can't stand the thing. The clicks on the turret land between the etched marks, it has a bdc reticle, and the reticle freezes on adjustments. Aside from not working very well though, it's pretty tacticool looking.
  10. So I'm curious about all of your opinions on scopes. There is the new NRA mid range prone tactical division (is division the right word?) that limits the optics to 12 power max. I'm considering getting a dedicated scope for this as the rest of my rifle will meet the requirements. The range maxes at 600 yds. Just curious what your optics choice would be if you were shooting. I would think repeatable turret adjustments would be necessary. personally, I'd have to have moa adjustments. It's easier for my brain to manage. Any way, give me your thoughts on any 12 power, either fixed or variable.
  11. I'm quickly coming to that conclusion, no biggie. Learning is the second best part of all of this anyway. Thanks, I'll look into them. My final orders are going to be in two weeks. I may do some shopping locally tonight. Fingers crossed
  12. Yeah, I definitely won't turn anyone away from them aside from the grip on a .308. I imagine it fits an ar15 the way it's supposed to. I'm just chalking it up to learning experience, there's several things about these nlx 308 pieces that I'm learning along the way. All has been great until the grip issue. I think the way the receiver was finished has more to do with the way the grip fits than the actual quality of the grip.
  13. I don't think I ever named it, it is the strike industries enhanced grip. I can't help but feel like they dropped the ball on that one. Hopefully, for their sake, Steve over in quality control was just having a bad day. It was just surprising because I have their ejection port cover and that thing fits wonderfully. Looks good too. Any way, jp has a hogue grip that I'll buy along with the their new .875 adjustable gas block. It's not a bad price and doesn't have the extension over the hand. I'll buy them in a couple weeks.
  14. My grip fits like a square peg in a round hole. Turns out I'm buying another one. I'm going to get a simpler one. Fml this is a disappointment. At least it's a cheap part.
  15. I've never felt a bcg that fits a receiver so well. This thing makes my sticker peck out.
  16. Alright ladies and gents, time for an update. My barrel is in, holy butt sack it is sexy. I feel like my eyes are having sex every time I look at this thing. The barrel is at the smith getting a George Vais designed 3" reducible hunter brake. The smith is turning it down to exactly the same size as my barrel and matching the polish so it will be close to seamless. He's going to put it on free of charge since I'm buying the brake. My bolt carrier group and grip will be in this week as well. By this weekend, all I will have left is gas block, tube, and trigger. Then goodies like the luth ar stock and scope. I'm still undecided on scope and trigger but will be choosing shortly. Pictures will be up tomorrow
  17. I'm committed to the proof research barrel on this build even though it's a bit more pricey. I've been dreaming/drooling over these barrels for quite some time and have had nothing but great experiences with Mike and the rest regarding help and advice. Also, they're fellow Montana peepsicles and I feel great about that. Thanks for the advice though.
  18. Well I found a distributor that has the barrel for $799.99 and free shipping. I'm calling today to see if they're in stock. I'm hoping to get this down to just two more orders so I may not actually order from rainier. I will focus more on it after the barrel is onthe way. Thanks for the help.
  19. Why do you suppose they list the mid length 1/8" longer? I feel like they do enough business to know more about it than I do, maybe I'll call them tomorrow
  20. Okay guys, I have a question before I get the barrel on the way. Obviously I need a gas tube....my question is....With the .875 gas block on the 16" proof barrel and mid length gas port, will the standard mid length gas tube (11 7/8") be the correct tube? For some reason, with my enormous wealth of experience in building these rifles, I feel like it needs a slightly less curved gas tube. I base this thought on exactly zero evidence though so I just want to have my ducks in a row before I check out. Thanks gents
  21. Thanks! Barrel gets ordered in the next two weeks. This handguard is interesting, the barrel nut doesn't guide the gas tube at all. No alignment to deal with while torquing the nut. Just torque and move on. I don't know if that's too common but I like the idea.
  22. Handguard is sexy as hell....
  23. No pressure, I'm almost convinced on the pof trigger. It's getting great reviews anyway
  24. Did you manage to get a little trigger time with your jmt by chance? My lgs has a POF trigger that I'm barely resisting. I don't know how much more willpower I have
