Public Service Announcement - Public Shiit on Public Lands

Time to be sitting out on a hill and really scaring some turkeys with well place rounds as they try to leave their poop behind. Happend to step out into an end of road carpark @ 10 years back to find couple of retards trying to get into my vehicle. I was armed - they were not. They visited the nearest police shop in the trunk of my vehicle . Road was rather rough and was a hot day. Hate this sort of poop. -
Duct tape cant fix stupid, but it sure can deaden the noise.

Thanks Shep - this whole AR thing is very new to me - wore my old Rem mod 742 out finally and grabbed this off a guy desperate to pay for his wedding - awesome rifle but wanting another shorter/lighter barrel to scrub hunt with. Will keep looking.
-
OK - I have (pictured) G2 with 24" Bull Barrel and am looking for a 16" upper assembly that I can change over to for short range scrub stalking - be a bit lighter to lug around and quicker to snap shoot deer. Looks like it may work on mine.

Will this fit a G2 DPMS Lower?

Why are US lawmakers afraid of suppressors?
broadbillodin replied to broadbillodin's topic in Rifle Suppressors
hehe - i think if Hilary had of won - your mate Bill would have been president of the UN in short order and it would have been the end game for the enactment of the UN's Agenda 21 (look that one up and be afraid for your children). In electing Trump, I believe that US citizens have done the entire western world a favour and a massive debt of gratitude is in order. As for Aussie gun laws, well lets just say Hillary's mates have been very busy there. Semi autos banned because one Tasmanian nut job went loopy with one 20 years ago. I am aware that an act is before your house to make suppressors legal (have US friends complain about the time and money involved to get the tax stamp) - looked up your 1934 law - cant believe that the polys have had their heads in the sand on it for so long, yet been so liberal in other areas. Also interesting that in US that the states who have the strictest gun laws coincidently have the highest levels of gun crime. We also are not beyond stupidity down here - take my DPMS LR - it has a bar from the stock to the pistol grip, this makes it a Cat A (std) firearm - remove this bar and it becomes Cat E (military style) - still the same gun. I can only carry a 7 rnd mag for it, no 10, 20 or 30 ones - yet there is no law saying I cannot carry 30 x 7 round mags - mind you for hunting never have more than 3 in the rifle - in the bush you are never going to get more than 3 shots on a mob, rarely more than 2, so common sense dictates what I carry. -

Why? You can buy handguns, you can conceal carry. How does a suppressor make a rifle more lethal - if anything it slows a round taking shock power away from it - in my book that is less lethal. -
What size upper is that reitsma?

Measuring Headspace on an Armalite AR-10
broadbillodin replied to imschur's topic in Building a .308AR
I am told that my G2 DPMS can shoot both. The 24" Bull barrel is stamped 7.62 x 51(? - without pulling it out to look) Have not tried 7.62 in it to date, only .308. Am thinking of getting another upper assembly with 16" barrel to convert to a good bush gun (24" is too heavy and cumbersome for 95% of the hunting that i do), but this whole AR thing is a steep learning curve and I am not sure if other manufacturers parts are compatible with the DPMS stuff. Any help would be appreciated along these lines. -
If what I am reading i understand correctly, there is a rather expensive and time consuming process in the US to obtain a suppressor for your firearm. Am having trouble getting my head around this as we can walk into any firearms or hunting store and buy one over the counter - no different from ammo or anything else. What is the big deal about such a simple tool up there?

To be fair man - my mate was doing the adjustments, not me - he was all excited about the new rifle and trying to get me to spend big on optics by taking me to the range to show me what the rifle can really do with good optics on it - I really didn't want to screw with his expensive optics in case I cocked them up, so what you are 'quoting' is really a figure of speech. If he did one click, 3 clicks or even 5 clicks, I could not tell you for sure, can ask him if you feel it is so important, but really not into pissing contests. We started with the scope bore sighted in his workshop, then at the range he made it shoot from memory 1 1/2" high at 25m, he then stepped us out to 200m, 300m, then 500m - only reason i actually got this gun was to replace my old 742 Rem 30-06 that I have had since I was 18 - the action has finally worn out. The ranger scope on the DPMS is off this rifle, and to be honest range shooting for me is like watching golf or paint dry - I am a meat hunter. If i put a round at an animal and it tips over all is good - food is on the table. Dont really care what moa etc is.... Am simply asking for advice on a platform that is very new to me - if you are wanting to hijack my question, there is really not a lot I can do to help you. Again - can a DPMS G2 take other makes of upper assemblies or does it have to be a DPMS one?
-
That is shooting prone on a range in perfect conditions - no wind, low humidity, @ 200m above sea level - would be happy to be even hitting target at those ranges actually hunting. Is .308 24" bull barrel and using 130gr hand loads that a friend has done for us - he reckons they are doing @ 3200 ft/sec at muzzle. Scope pictured is a shitty Ranger off my old 30-06. What I was at the range with was a mates Kahles - went up to 24 mag from memory loaned it to me for a few days to get me to spend some coin on better optics than what I was putting on it - reality is though, I cant justify $3K + on optics I am going 'bush bashing' with. Slip down a bank and hit a log or something and I have a $3K paperweight. Picture is some of the stuff we stalk in. With the DPMS LR 308 G2 are other AR10 manufacturers products inter-changable. ie - can I get another upper assembly - 16" (complete) and interchange with the existing 24" one?
-
Here is target from 500m - top 3 first group. A couple of clicks to wind in and a very happy second group. But in reality the 24" I would only really use for really long range stuff in open country. Most of our bush shooting on deer and pigs is 10 - 70m - you just usually cant see further, so a lighter barrel is tops for snap shooting i think.

Odin from NZ Searched on Mr Google for a AR10 forum. Just purchased a DPMS LR .308 G2 with 24" Bull Barrel to replace an old mod 742 Remington 30.06 that I have finally worn out. It is shooting really nice and barrel has settled in good. Am thinking of getting maybe a 16" upper assembly as the 24" is not really suitable for bush stalking. If I have both setup with dedicated optics I see it as as a quick field swap between uppers as the situation dictates. 16" for under 200m - 24" for over 200m. Am I on the right path? - this whole black guns thing is a very new learning curve to me - am liking the easy break down for cleaning though.
