  1. Welcome from the 2A pit of dispair. But i fear not! Enjoy this treasure trove of info and the folks who contribute.
  2. Will do today. Need to search for pic instructions. I'll start a new thread as to not hijack this one anymore.
  3. Hello @Albroswift - My AR15 lowers are Cerro forgings from Right to Bear Arms. I bought .308 billet lowers from 80Percent. I also have AR15 forgings from 80Percent as well. My AR15 upper is a gun show beauty boxed up by Durkin Tactical... I use the term "beauty" very loosly. I wanted to keep the AR15 build on the cheap side. I'm using and Easy Jig 2 kit for the milling. Works well. I'm not starting work on the .308 until my 556 is together and running properly...THEN...I'll be all over you guys 😀
  4. Sorry. Been away for a while. That was just poor English. I'm starting with an 80% AR build as a test for an upcoming .308 build. Finished the lower last week and dropped in a Anderson lower kit. Waiting on a Real Avid armorers wrench to finish things up. I started with the AR due to its mil-spec characteristics. I've already run into little things like the upper being a super tight fit to the lower. Safety fitting tight over the TCG. Just stuff that can be fixed with a file but I haven't had to go that far yet. Safety is loosening up just by working it on the lower block. The upper may be a different story. I'm could make it fit in minutes but I need to determine who's out of spec first (upper or lower). I'm whipping out the calipers today. Need to find the drawings with the specs...then adjust.
  5. No doubt. Here in MD there are MANY bills coming up this month and next. MD and VA - sad states of affairs.
  6. Unreal... Or OMG!!! Depending on your take. FKing sad for AZ.
  7. Spent the afternoon at the Outdoor Show yesterday and picked up a .233 Wylde kit. Looking forward to putting it together as a "test fit" for a .308 build. I'd like the .308 to be a premium build so i'll be reaching out for parts specs and stuff. My son picked up some optics and it was a good day. Get ready for newbie questions 😀
  8. Welcome from Marylandstan. Nice rig!

  10. Well now I'm going to start doing it with my M1A as well. If thats the way you guys were taught it makes sense to me. I'll probably never find myself in a firefight to foul things enough to need the smackdown but may as well be consistent. I have to coach my kids constantly to not push bolts gently into battery. Let the springs do things as they should. Smacking the FA or bolt handle after release seems like a good idea. They seem to have no problem hitting the slide release on a pistol minus magazine and rounds which pisses me off. Go figure.
  11. I'd have to agree, but my friends who have served pull the charging handle and then smack the FA in a single motion. Probably due to muscle memory and training. I started doing it just cuz. As mentioned earlier, if you have to do it it's most likely the last time you do it.
  12. .22, .223, .5.56, .308 - just a natural progression. Just like .22, 9mm, .45 in handguns. But i do have a sweetspot for my Ruger R1 in 45-70. Its a pig whacking machine.
  13. 98 - Thank you for pointing me to the long post. It should be a must read for anyone jumping in here. Unfortunately i now question my initial thoughts on starting with a DPMS patterned lower as it strays from Mr. Stoners original design and substitutes AR15 parts. I guess a call to Heavy Buffers is in my near future...

  15. Hello all - Stumbled across the site while internet dreaming about 80% lowers. What could be cooler than building your own firearm that you get to spec out? Well thank God I found you guys because what I've learned in a very short time is that you just don't throw a .308 together and expect greatness. Thank you all. I'm a Colt AR .556 owner after being chided by my wife to jump in. Now I really like the platform. I love to tinker and do some minor smithing on my own stuff (triggers, springs, etc.) and I found myself ready to to the 80% route. To that end I've purchased the Easy Jig Gen 2 (haven't received yet), 2 DPMS style billet lowers, a few AR15 forged lowers, and a CMMG AR-10 lower parts kit. Hopefully they will become custom XMAS presents for my boys and grandkids. My plan is to build a LR308 with a rifle stock and up to a 18"-20" barrel upper with forward assist. I like carry handles and BUIS sights, but not exclusively. So I will be bothering you guys with buffer tube, stock, sights, and gas block questions. My goal is to have a tamed (as much as that can be) LR308 that's capable of 1 MOA at 100 yds even if I'm not (well sometimes maybe). I think I want an extended mag release, at least the sales folks suggest this. So let the games begin!!! You can hit me with your favorite combos and any advice whatsoever. I can do this piecemeal or do a complete upper if that seems sensible. I appreciate the wealth of knowledge that you've shared to date and hope I get to add some over time. Patrick
