  1. Also - The fact that I was getting shallow primer indentations with a different rifle, using the same ammo, tells me something. I won't call it light primer strikes anymore. If I had a better camera, I'd make a video of how tough these primers appear to be - Maybe I will when I have more time, There are still things about this that make very little sense to me. Thanks for the helpful information to anyone who contributed
  2. Here's another pic of 2 LC cartridges vs 2 of my handloads with CCM primers. I originally had a lighter tension hammer spring in there, but not the lightest available - Then I tried a hammer spring with more tension and It dented the primers deeper but didn't do what I expected on the LC primers. The 1st one closest in the pic is a LC with the lighter hammer spring - Barely dented - about 20% of those were Fail to Fire The 2nd one was LC primer after I changed the spring to a heavier one The 3rd one is the indentation on a CCM primer And the 4th one is a CCM primer with the stronger spring. Thanks for any suggestions solving this problem
  3. This is Lot # SMO2OE305-037 Lake City Ammunition Co It seems odd to me that there would be a box of ammo that has primers that are too hard, but consistently that's what I am seeing. So it's either that, or another issue somewhere
  4. Is there a spec for FP protrusion ? I have a set of Go/ NoGo gauges and a cartridge length checker and the unfired Lake City cases are within spec by comparison to other cases and checked in headspace length to be the same as the gauges... But that doesn't mean there couldn't be another measurement error that I've overlooked. Not sure what BTO is
  5. About 1 out of 5 shots is FTF with the LC ammo I get no FTF using my handloads. The one on the right in the pic was one that was a FTF and I pulled the trigger on it a second time. I got poor primer indentations using this ammo with another .308 as well. It just seems really odd
  6. The Lake City case is on the right, I'm not sure if the pic shows the difference. I actually re chambered the spent brass and re struck the primer a second time with the stiffer spring in there and those primers are obviously harder than the primers I reload with Thanks - Feedback Appreciated
  7. I see this is the Ammo Forum but all I see here is Reloading - So I'll post here and see how it goes. I have some Lake City Ammo that I'm seeing light primer indentations with. And with my handloads using Federal, Winchester or CCI primers the primer indentations seem fine. But I thought I'd try a stiffer hammer spring since I have one in my parts box, and even with the stiffest spring (.048 wire - not sure about the rating) I still get shallow indentations using the Lake City Ammo - I don't think it's surplus ammo, the primer pockets aren't crimped. Is this common with Lake city Ammo ? I was also getting ignition failures at the range with that ammo Picture coming - Thanks in advance
  8. Hah ! I visualize 98 as a guy going through a crowd with a bullwhip. All you need to do to not get hurt is get in line and do it correctly. And to those who stay in line - problems will be solved
  9. Good to hear - I haven't ordered one yet because I had to move and deal with all the address change business and complications. I don't want an order to go to my old address. Probably will order next week. Thanks
  10. That's a long list of red dots that are supposed to be good for astigmatism I'm surprised that the Sig Sauer Romeo was on there. I have one of those and I'll find out whether a PA 3X Prism sight is better, when it gets here. I wish that there was a local store that carries all those because it would be great to try them out before making a decision. I just have to go by online articles . I like the Sig Romeo but it's on my shotgun now because there may be situations when I don't have my glasses and if I have a SHTF rifle, it's my .308, so that's where my 3X Prism sight will be.. If there's any improvement, I'll post after I've tried it.
  11. There are just times when I'm okay without them and I've broken them a few times so I sometimes would just rather not deal with them But sometimes I like wearing them . when I drive, for example.
  12. I'll do that - It's available
  13. Got it - Thanks - I'm about to order a Primary Arms SLX 3X Micro Prism Unless I change my mind for some reason and get the P.A. GLX
  14. I created another post before this one on the topic of headspacing. I've only fired a few hundred rounds through the barrels in question and now I have a bunch of brass that's fireformed through chambers that are too loose by .002" or maybe even bigger.... So we'll see how this plays out.... Reloading that brass is going to put this through the acid test . I do have one Barrel / Bolt combination that headspaces correctly using the gauges I have - Clymer ... But Gosh Oh Golly... Wouldn't you know it, the gas block position is out of spec on that one . So I'll see how it shoots and if it's accurate, I'll dig uo a longer gas tube . Thanks to anyone who contributed to the discussion
  15. I'm thinking the Sig Sauer Bravo 3X24 may be the answer. Anybody have one of those? They claim unlimited eye relief, but in the reviews some guys say it's not unlimited.
  16. I have a Sig Romeo and I liked everything about it, except for one thing... If I wasn't wearing my glasses, the dot was distorted and fuzzy. So I put that on my shotgun and I'm shopping for a different type of Red Dot - It looks like there are some designs out there that are astigmatism friendly judging by their reviews. I want one that has long eye relief, like the Sig Romeo and if possible, some magnification. . . So firstly, I'm interested in finding out if there's any such thing as a Red Dot that has magnification 3X max and also has long Eye Relief, and which is also astigmatism friendly. . . There may be no such thing ? If I'm understanding things correctly prism optics are the variety that works well, if someone has astigmatism.... Correct me if I'm wrong about that Thanks in advance for all help - Enjoy
  17. Thanks for referring me to that information - I'll have fewer questions after I've studied that - It'll take awhile
  18. I was going to go do something else, but it was eating me up, and I had to find out... So it's 9 11/16" And I'll go with the Red Spring I posted last month and you told me use the Armalite EA-1095 or the Sprinco Red. But when I inquired I was asking about a 16" barrel. I had to do a bit of searching to find one and nobody was there to take calls. But it's 9 11/16" per spec and I'll run the Red Spring. The spring that came with the stock/buffer tube kit is significantly stiffer. I'll get to that reading tomorrow, before I ask any more questions.
  19. Got it - 9 11/16' internal length - I'll get on that tomorrow - Thank You for the reading material as well - I'm about to head out for tonight
  20. 9 5/8" internally
  21. 10" is the external dimension, 9 58" internally
  22. My AR .308 is chambered in .308 Win / 7.62 - 51mm and i've been getting into working out some of the details to getting it running really well It has a 20" Barrel with Rifle Gas and a Fixed Stock with a 10" buffer tube So I asked for advice earlier, on buffer spring replacement and a Sprinco Red Spring was suggested . I ordered those about 2 weeks ago and they showed up about 3 days ago. I got a text from someone on the staff that orders were running late due to bad weather in Texas and I just ordered a few springs, because I have another rifle and it may be good oo experiment. I tried calling Sprinco and for days, all I got was the answering machine, so I bought a Red and Blue and Green, because that was all they had in stock, and all the places that stock Sprinco were also out of stock. I looked at their product info and most of the product description was directed at AR 15 platform applications, using carbine gas, with shorter buffer tubes. I'll probably get on the phone with their tech dept and see what I can learn. but I'm inquiring here just to find out what anyone recommends. I also have a Tubb flat wire spring - And an Adjustable Gas Block - And a Heavy Buffer - And a Standard Buffer So I've got a bunch of possible combos to experiment with and I'll try everything. I haven't fired it a lot and so far it seems okay but there's room for improvement. Is the Sprinco Red or Green Spring a good choice for Rifle Gas System and a Fixed Stock ? Or how about the Tubb Flat Wire Spring ? Thank You In Advance
  23. Thanks - I'm familiar with a some of the basics of metallurgy and manufacturing so this all makes sense to me. At least - Now I have a bolt / barrel combo that headspaces correctly so I'll go with that Double post
  24. Thanks - I'm familiar with a some of the basics of metallurgy and manufacturing so this all makes sense to me. At least - Now I have a bolt / barrel combo that headspaces correctly so I'll go with that .
  25. I have three BCGs and two of the bolts are marked with MPI and the other is marked with MP. I'm not sure whether that indicates the manufacturer or some other spec. I do get correct headspacing when I use the MPI bolt with a particular .308 barrel, When testong it with GO / NO-GO Gauges. But the bolt that works with that Barrel isn't the one that originally came in that Bolt Carrier. It seems to be a proper fit, though. I have a couple side charging BCGs and the other is a rear charging so swapping the entire BCG is out All feedback appreciated
