  1. Will a Redding body sizer die work for loading AR-15 and LR-308 rifles. I know that I will have to have one of each caliber. Use the body die to resize the base and neck size or full length size for the neck and shoulder. I can't find just small base dies for either caliber. I don't want to have to buy a complete new set of dies for each of them. Will I have to use the body die once I have fired the brass once in the guns? Steve
  2. I guess it would help if I gave the bullets that I have for each rifle. I have 55 gr. FMJBT and 55 gr. Pointed soft point BT for the 5.56. I have 150 gr. bulk FMJBT, 150 gr. Nosler Green tip BT, and 165 gr. Nosler Green tip BT for the 308. Also have 2 or 3 hundred old Hornady 150 gr. SPBT. from 20 years ago when I loaded 30-06 . I would like to try to use one powder for both AR style rifles and my Remington 700 bolt gun in 308. Hope that helps
  3. Anyone use Alliant 1200-R , 200-MR, or Reloder 10 for 5.56 and 308? Local gun shop has some of each. Which would be best?
  4. Monday night I knocked out 50 rounds of 45 Colt for a friend. Tuesday I had to rebuild the latch on my work shop. I think things should last more than 20 years without having to work on them. O Well. If it last another 20 years I won't have to worry about it. Received 500 LC 308 once fired brass Tuesday. Looks like it was buried in dirt for several years before being picked up. Man it's dirty. I will start de-priming and tumbling them today. Can get about 150 in my tumbler at a time. That will be the easy part. It's light rain off and on today so I don't have to work in the yard. 😊😊😊
  5. I almost forgot about my platform shoes. They are long gone along with my long hair. 😁😁😁
  6. OH.... The stand is ROCK SOLID. Love it, just may be a few inches to tall on my work bench, I am about 5' 8'' and have a tall stool with a Craftsman work bench. It is kinda tall.
  7. Lonewolf That is it except I have the quick change top plate. I have a Rock Chucker, Redding T-7. and Lee Classic Turret presses. Each on a quick change plates. Two wing nuts and I can swap any press I want. I store the presses under the center of my work bench. That T-7 is getting very heavy now that am well into my 70's. I need to trim 200 more 5.56 cases then bevel the mouths, prime, charge, and seat the bullets and will have 500 loaded rounds. I will get my LC 7.62 once fired brass the middle of next week and start on them. Boy, retirement is a lot of work.
  8. Looks like a good start. I like your mounting plate for the press. I used a Lee quick change plate for a while but changed to a In-Line Fab. raised quick change mount a few years ago. I still don't know if I really like how high it is. Wish my workbench looked as neat as yours.
  9. What happen to this forum? Looks like it died for a while. Just bought a like new very old DPMS LR 308 Heavy barrel rifle. I live in Abilene and rejoined the Abilene North Range Gun Club. Found 2 boxes of Armscor 147 308 while I was in Brownwood to watch my grandson play football for McMurry University. I will be trying to get to the range or go to my son-in-law's tank to try it out. The ANGC range has 50, 100, and 200 yard rifle and up to 25 yard pistole pit. If you qualify at 200 yards you can get access to the 400 yard range. Don't know if anyone ever looks at this thread anymore but thought I would try it.
  10. The load I shoot in the bolt gun is mid range on the powder. If I can do my part. I can get about a 40 cal. hole at 100 yards with 3 shots and when I am shaky I will pull one high and right about 1/16 of an inch. The gun shoots but I am getting very old.
  11. I had 7 stints and 3 different pacemakers and a LVAD pump before I got my transplant. If you ever need to go farther with your heart. Baylor Scot and White Transplant Center in Dallas TX. is the only place to go. I spent over 2 years waiting in line at another hospital in Dallas before going to Baylor. Baylor took 14 days to find me a heart and said sorry for taking so long. Can't say enough good about the care at Baylor. My wife was 24 and I was 29 when we meet in December and married the next June. Would not be here now without her taking care of me when my heart went bad.
  12. Hi My name is Steve Crawford. I am new to the AR 308. Yesterday I traded for a DPMS LR308. A2 stock, 18 inch fluted heavy barrel, 12 inch free floating hand guard, small by-pod, I don't know what the BCG is finished with but it looks like mat stainless steel. and a EOTech 553 sight. the serial number is 107XX, It looks like near new condition. I have a DPMS 5.56 base model that has not been shot much in a couple of years, I have a few others also. I am retired and have had a Heart Transplant in 2014. Married for 45 years in June. I like to reload ammo and play with guns.😁😁😁 Will try to post a picture in a few days. I am not good with posting pictures. I load 308 for a Remington 700 CDL tactical 20 inch heavy barrel. Do I need to get a small base sizing die to size the Lake City brass I just ordered? Guess I will just have to try some and see.
  13. Since I was replacing all the parts from the frame back I though that it would all work ok. I am on a quick learning curve about the AR-10 I thank you for the information. I withdraw my offer. Steve
  14. I just bought a DPMS LR308. Serial Number 107XX. The rifle looks almost new. It has an EOTech 553 on it. I did not know anything about the rifle or sight before I bought it. I have a DPMS 5.56 that seams to work ok Now that I am looking at the info here. I find that I must have a very early rifle that was a safe queen. It has a A2 style but stock, Heavy fluted barrel, free floating hand guard, and a operating handle with the extended release on the left side. The operating handle looks just like the one that I added to my DPMS 5.56 I bought new about 5 years ago. I guess I should have checked everything out before I bought it. It looked as clean as the new AR-15's they had on the wall. I have not shot it yet. I will have to load some ammo before I can take it out. I hope I didn't get ripped off . Any information about how old the rifle and sight is will be nice. I did find a sight to check if the 553 was a real EOTech and it is. Thanks for any help. I am new to this style of rifle.
  15. I was trying to get info on a used rifle and sight I traded for today. I know I should look BEFORE I leap. Ran across a link and just could not resist the urge to sign up and show how little I know.🥴🥴😕
  16. Just picked up a used DPMS 308 with a fixed stock I think is a A2 style. I stopped at a shop close to my house and picked out a fancy adjustable buttstock. They had to order the correct buffer assembly for it. It also had an EOTech 553 sight. I did not know ANYTHING about the EOTech. Found out it is out of production. Hope I didn't get took on this deal. If THORUD 74 is close to Abilene Texas I may be able to help with the buttstock swap.
