Thank you! The information I've gathered will go into my build notebook. I am amazed that it took me so many years to catch the bug...but it has definitely been caught. Finding [quality] parts has not been easy and I have amassed a boatload of vendor links, along with the knowledge passed along from y'all.

**Update**. Had a blond-moment (apparently) when I was buying my charging handle. I thought I had selected the AR10 style Radian ambi charging handle. Unfortunately, after opening up the package and reading AR15/M5 on the handle, I did a facepalm on myself (LOL) and started scrambling to find an AR10/LR308 compatible charging handle. Fortunately for me, Aero Precision had an ambi charging handle in stock...so with my veteran discount, I saved a bit of money and have one en route (they even managed to process and ship out same day). Once the charging handle is in, I'll have all the parts. Now I just have to wait for the cerakote job to be done, then I can begin assembly! Big shout out to all y'all for the tips, suggestions and knowledge! Between reading a gazillion posts on the forum and watching a slew of YouTube videos, I have a bunch of notes to keep my build on-track (hopefully). I do have one question that I hope someone has knowledge to support: The Aero Precision Lower Parts kit I bought was without a grip (I bought a Hogue pistol grip). As such, my lower parts kits doesn't have the pistol grip screw & lock washer. Does anyone know the tech specs for the pistol grip screw?

My brother has built quite a few guns with them...but we'll see how my build goes. It's my first go-round and it's what I want to try. I may find out it's more effective the run a standard buffer & spring!

Still awaiting a few parts, mainly the upper/lower that were supposedly 'in-stock' when I ordered, only to find out that the vendor had incoming stock. "Should" be in within the next few days then shipped out to me. Here's the latest BOM for my build:

Greetings all, Moving the conversation of my first build over to this section, to keep the discussion in-line with where it should take place! I've been shooting for 50+ years; qualified rifle in the military (M-14, then M-16) as well as pistol (19110 & shotgun (Remington 870). Currently have a few rifles in my arsenal (M4 5.56, Lever Action 30-30, Remington 700 [.308]), but not a AR/LR platform in .308. I have been pondering a build for quite a while, and finally started the procurement of items last weekend. I'm sure there will be hiccups along the way, but the main goal is to make a "DMR" rifle. If I'm missing anything or any suggestions on items that may be a better fit, feel free to chime in (I'm no snowflake! LMAO): - - 308USK

Thanks! I had a blond moment (lol) ... As for the adjustable gas block, that is intentional as I do plan to suppress. Learning curve? Oh crap...my noggin might be headed for trouble. :P

LOL yeah my brother has amassed a rather large collection...after building up a few M4 SBR's, a couple 300BO's and his 'tactical' 308! I have 2nd AP M5 lower/upper combo that I might pickup (just have to pay for it from seller on GunBroker.com) ... who knows. Guess I should focus on THIS build first (rotf)!!!

:) Guess I have to figure out if I want collapsible or not (I'm assuming a rifle extension will equate to fixed stock). Options a-plenty! LOL

Okay, that helps. :). I have this Aero Precision barrel en route: Aero Precision 18 Inch .308 CMV Barrel 1:10 Twist Rifle Length Gas 5/8×24 DPMS LR308 Pattern QPQ Corrosion Resistant Nitride. Also, I am still pondering 'which' stock to purchase...accuracy for long range, but still have portability as much as possible.

Would I not want a Rifle length tube & buffer kit? (again, my first build, so if this is an ignoramous question...be gentle [LMAO]).

Greetings everyone! I am by no means new to firearms! Qualified rifle (Expert) with an M-14 many many moons ago. Also qualified (expert) with M16A2 and a lowly 1911. (LOL) Nowadays, I have a nice collection of pistols (Sig P366XL's, G22, G23, G43) and a few rifles (M4, Winchester lever-action 30-30, Remington 700). My best friend has a really interesting LR-308 and i've been pondering building one of my own for a while now. Earlier this morning, I purchased the lower, upper and barrel. Will be procuring other parts as I find them (some are still in-research). But, for now, here is my build list (minus scope...haven't figured out which scope I want yet): Since this is my first "build" ... I am 100% open to suggestions, advice, etc. Definitely want this to be a good long-range rifle. - - 308USK (aka Pete)
