Copy on leaving gas tube alone! Will locate a proper Carbine buffer @ H3 weighted and 3.250" long. Will locate either of those buffer springs. As for gas port diameter, I may have to disassemble and use the #'d bit method I read in one of the many posts to ensure proper diameter. Once I get pieces-parts and check gas port diameter, I will go to the range, open the AGB wide open and give the rifle a whirl. :) THANK YOU!!

I've built my rifle and it "should" work just grand. But it isn't cycling...(note: I can manually cycle rounds from the mag [safety on] without issue). GRRRRR My build: Aero Precision M5 Upper & Lower Aero Precision 18" .308 CMV Barrel, Rifle Length Rifle length gas-tube (from Aero Precision) Superlative Arms Adjustable Gas Block (.750 Low Profile) Magpul Enhanced Receiver Extension (7-3/4" internal length) JP Rifles Silent Capture Spring (JP SCS2-10) Aero Precision .308 BCG (black nitride) I do wonder if my gas tube is 1/16 to 1/8" too long (see attach pics). I've tried a number of things to troubleshoot, but feel it is time to 'go back to basics (get the rifle built to normal specs, working properly...then fine-tune with things like JP SCS, etc.). That said, I need to order a proper buffer spring and buffer weight, which is where I need y'alls help. I have read a bazillion threads, know that the AR-10 platform typically needs a 5.40z buffer weight and a proper spring. Saw a thread where that info was posted, but cannot find it for the life of me. Once I get the info needed, I will order a spring and weight, get those put in the rifle and go to the range to see if that will have the rifle cycle. I'm feeling pretty dumb right now, but know that y'all will have the knowledge to help me get my rifle right and working!! Thanks in advance! - - Pete

Nice! Got me thinkin about another build (bank account withstanding).

@NightStalker, with the SAFETY ENGAGED and 2 rounds in a mag, can you manually cycle rounds with the charging handle?
-
Dang...I thought I was the only one to fall asleep during my build (LMAO). At least it wasn't difficult to flip around!

Thanks for the kinds replies! Couple more pics after I got the bipod and scope flip-caps installed. Still have to camo the scope mount, scope, bipod and flip-caps, but the rifle is pretty much there! Weighed the rifle once done: 12lbs 2.0 oz

After way too long a wait (had to wait for a dimpling jig and a carbide bit)...I have finally assembled the upper/barrel/gas system/handguard/muzzle device. The build is 99% complete. All that is left is the bipod, Objective & Eyepiece flip-caps from Vortex and it's done! Overall, I'd say this was a complete success on my part! Learned a number of things along the way, for example: 1) If using an adjustable gas block, make sure you open it wide-open before you start working the installation of the gas block. Make it easier to do the 'blow test' (lol). 2) Make sure have your work area well lit. Sometimes, the little set screws can be a real PITA to find unless well lit. 3) Pay attention to direction of things as you install. If you're installing a "Bad Ass Pro Ambidextrous Safety," for example, it is an easy mistake to install upside down (especially if you're working fast and not in a well lit environment). 4) Make sure you have all your tools needed laid out and ready. Just makes the job easier... 5) Plenty of other observations Now I am ready to get it out to the range and start fine-tuning! More pics once I get the bipod and flip-caps

I totally hear ya...but I had never built an AR before I built mine! I did my research (this forum rocks!!) and found some YouTube / Vimeo videos for some of the more detailed steps...but really, it's not that difficult!! Best wishes!!

This is said with all due respect: "build one yourself!" I am building my M5 for a myriad of reasons, but primarily because I feel the more I know about putting the weapon together, the better I can diagnose issues OR repair/tweak when necessary. I've put the lower together and am awaiting a jig (SLR Rifleworks Dimple Jig), so that I can dimple the the barrel for securing the gas block. The jig will be here tomorrow, but with a road-trip later this week to deliver our youngest Son his car at Camp Lejeune, I won't be able to finish the upper until after next weekend. So far, the process has been pretty straight forward, sans a serious blond moment when I put the Bad-Ass Pro Ambidextrous safety selector devices on upside down (ROTFLMAO). Probably the hardest thing to install was my Geissele trigger, but in all honesty, I felt like I had accomplished something when it was installed and I tested it (making sure to NOT let the hammer fly loosely). Plan on building another upper with either a 22" or 24" barrel chambered in 6.5cm, so I can swap out the upper if I feel like reaching way out there!

The Cerakote job came out nicely! Looking forward to assembling the upper and finishing the build.

Job done...3 minute fix!! I can't believe I did that...but, glad Bad-Ass Pro Ambidextrous safety is a quick n easy fix.
-
Well shizzle. Good thing it's a Bad-Ass Pro Ambi safety selector. That's an EASY fix (LMAO); can't seen the forest through the trees! I must've been overly frazzled at losing the pin detent (which I just found as I walked into my kitchen this morning).
-
Finally....Cerakote job finished!! I started the build today after work! Learning experience for sure. I am actually pretty happy with how things are going; installation of the Geissele G2S trigger was a little tough, since I've never done that, but after using a little brain-matter, slowly & methodically I was able to get everything done for the lower! (Takedown pin isn't installed yet; detent pin fell out of my hand and despite my flashlight being 600lumens, I couldn't find the damn thing. My brother has spares (as will I, soon enough! ) Colors used for Cerakote camo: Mil-Spec Green (H-264) Sniper Gray (H-234) Flat Dark Earth (H-265) Progress so far:

Official word from Aero Precision: 1/4-28 x 7/8". I haven't been able to hit any of the local stores to see if they have stock. Working 50-60 hours per week is frying my brain (what little is left).
-
Thanks! If local supply doesn't have what I need, I'll reach out!
-
Much Appreciated. I'll check my local stores first...and if necessary, I'll reach out. :)

Sadly, the grip (Hogue, which I really like and fits my hand well) states right on the OEM packaging "mounting hardware not included." (I didn't see this originally). UGH! Fortunately, the peeps on this forum ROCK and provided the info I need to procure a proper screw and get on with things (once I get everything back from vendor doing my Cerakote job).
-
I was thinking the grip "should" come with the proper screw, but I've looked high & low where I opened the package and no luck. What I plan to do is take the lower to Lowe's or Home Depot and try the 1/4-28. BUT, if I feel even a hint of resistance...I'll remove and try the 1/4-20! I appreciate all of the knowledge you have passed along!

Yes indeed!! That IS my game-plan (pieces for 5-6 if I can swing it. )
