Welcome from FLA.

'Preciate that shooterrex! I've looked at the attachment point 3 times, and all I can see are the 2 horizontal ones on the bottom. After I posted the questions, I got impatient and removed the screws - no dice, wouldn't budge. Give the dead blow a try,or?? As to the gas block, 0 carbon - I'm waiting on the new buffer and spring from HeavyBuffers to get here, so it remains unfiredโน๏ธ๐ญ I can hear it pleading with me to get it to the range - so sad!๐ I'll give the tube a try when I have some more time. Thanks again, Y'all take care, Mike.
-
Edit to above: I meant to say the Birdcage/muzzle, not just the muzzle. Apologies!
-
So..... forgot to ask earlier, but this is my 1st free float handguard - a Magpul M-Lok. I'm presuming that dis-assembly is straightforward, and to remove it I need to take the 2 screws on the bottom out, and then use - what? - maybe a plastic dead blow hammer to give a couple love taps to the end of the muzzle while pulling the handguard/rifle towards me so the stock is clear of the floor?? And 2nd - gas tube replacement how to (it's too short)? Tried the search function, but my search fu is apparently outta whack๐ Pointers?? This isn't an adjustable gas block, either. TIA, Y'all take care, Mike.

Absolutely agree about Doc's fix๐ I'm not convinced that I need any help at all spending my $$๐ค I seem to have a knack for doing that, although I do appreciate the advice that y'all have given! And, even though y'all are very helpful on the $$ part, that indirectly helps spend the time also. I can pretty much guarantee that if'n I drop some $$, I'm gonna spend some time learning about the object of the $$๐ Also, since discovering this site a few days ago, I figure there's at least 15 tabs open in the browser, so there's a lotta time there, too. Y'all take care, Mike.

Thanks, edgecrusher, 'preciate the input. Dam glad to know that I made a good choice - although I did read a good bit about his products before making a decision! I figured since it's my 1st AR308 that it'd be a good idea to go straight to The Man for a recommendation๐ I seriously doubt that I'll be disappointed with my choice. Not gonna change anything else until I put some down the tube. I'll most likely have to address the ejector face (it's squared) and the gas tube (it's short - nowhere near the center of the cutout), though. Can't hardly wait to do barrel break in, and make some empty brass!๐ I can see where these builds might be a PITA, but the way I see it, I'm getting an edu-ma-cation!๐ Y'all have been a BIG help in a short time! And most importantly, it gives me something to work on with my hands, since I'm retired (due to injuries). But - I can still build 'puters and shootin irons!๐ Y'all take care, Mike.

That ya did, Doc, that ya did. Then again, I can be a stubborn sumbitch - or so I've been told!๐

EDIT: Clint @ Heavy Buffers recommended his 6.5oz buffer and matching spring. Order placed. MANY THANKS to those that recommended HeavyBuffers.com!!! $%&(*^% - I KNEW y'all were gonna cost me $$๐๐

Howdy all. Didn't find this thread to begin with - just overlooked it. As for any of my previous posts that were off topic - my apologies!! Shoulda looked closer and found this thread to start with. Anywho - Here's what I've done so far - and I've already learned of at least 2 changes to make, those being the buffer (too light @ 3.8oz), and the ejector (squared off face). Also, the gas tube appears to short - nowhere near the center of the cutout. So.... I used an 80% Arms lower; a CMMG LPK, with an added JP Enhanced Reliability 3.5T spring set; polished the friction surfaces on the trigger, hammer, and disconnector; used an Aero Buffer Tube kit with a too light buffer (see above) which I'm researching now, already emailed Clint @ Heavybuffers - tube measures a hair under 7&1/16", buffer measures 2&1/2". Stock is a Magpul CTR 6 position - I've used this stock on all of my own AR15 builds. Stock and buffer tube kit are mil-spec. Added a Magpul vertical grip to the handguard as well. Used a BCA upper (maybe not the best choice with hindsight - I'll find out for sure at the range, as their quality seems to be either hit or miss with their uppers from my reading) with a 20" SS SOCOM profile medium weight, straight fluted barrel; Magpul M-Lok free float handguards; Rifle length gas system; their BCG & CH. Added a Magpul QD sling mount on the handguard; Magpul Pro BUIS front & rear; and after break in and sight setting, the Vortex 4-16 side adjust scope shown (just there for the pic). Y'all take care, Mike.

Howdy y'all. I know I'm resurrecting this 3 Y.O. thread, but I just found this site. I've already increased my 308AR knowledge by a large amount! Built numerous 556 & 223 AR's, but this new build is my 1st 308. Dang!!! I wish I'd found this site sooner!!! Ah well, cain't win 'em all. At least I can learn - a bit late is better'n nothing๐ I'm a bit south of O'Ville. Y'all take care, Mike.
-
Many thanks, 98. In the middle of reading it now. A most excellent post, sir. I was planning to experiment with the weights, but now I'll be starting with the H3. Gotta get one ordered immediately! Y'all take care, Mike.
-
Thanks shooterrex. 'Scuse my lack of knowledge, but how would this affect it without being fired, just manually cycled?? Y'all take care, Mike.

Discovered this site kinda by accident while cruising the 'net. Anyway, I've just finished my 1st AR308 build (I've already done numerous AR15's) - haven't fired it yet - hopefully on Monday!๐๐ We shall see. I'll report as soon as I do. I can already see that y'all are gonna cause me to spend a lotta time here!๐๐๐ Y'all take care, Mike.

Howdy edgecrusher, 'preciate the input. Since I haven't run into this before, I'm curious what makes you think that the buffer is bad (I like to expand my knowledge every chance I get - hope ya don't mind me asking), and I don't have a problem doing so if needed?? I know it's no guarantee of things being good, but the buffer, spring, and extension are all part of a new Aero kit. Forgot to add it in the first post, but it was also difficult without any ammo or the mag by itself. Seems to have loosened up somewhat after manually working it a bit. 'Preciate any info. Y'all take care, Mike.

'Preciate the reply, Mike8623. VERY glad to hear that! Best wishes on the Beo! Sounds like an interesting - and fun - build. My AR308 feels pretty tight - y'all get yer minds outta the gutter๐! Charging handle is fairly hard to pull back with a round charged. The upper was test fired before it left the manufacturer with no problems. So, I'm attributing the difficulty to it's newness. My buffer tube assembly is an Aero kit with a 3.8oz buffer. I believe it'll smooth out with break in. We shall see!

Howdy Brother Unforgiven. Worked in Indiana more times than I can remember. Good times๐ As I mentioned, I have fought pipe in 45 states๐คช I'd rather be working, though. Other than that, I'm definitely digging retirement. Spent a lotta time around Tin Knockers, too. Apologies fro the hi-jack. Y'all take care, Mike.

Howdy from another Mike, you've got 4 on me - I'm 68๐ Man, I'm envious of your place! Been in your neck of the woods several times for work, worked in 45 of the lower 48 at least once - Pipefitter by trade, and retired due to injuries now. Just curious, have you had any problems with your BCA 308 build? I just finished an 80% one as well - no problems yet. I've done several AR15 80%'ers, too. I REALLY like these 80% builds! Y'all take care, Mike.
-
Howdy Vermonter. As an FYI, I just finished my 1st AR308 build. My lower is also an 80%, but made by 80% Arms - https://www.80percentarms.com/products/black-anodized-billet-308-80-lower-receiver/ My buffer assembly is an Aero, also from 80%Arms - https://www.80percentarms.com/products/complete-308-ar-10-buffer-tube-kit/ . BTW, the buffer is a 3.8oz buffer. I also use their Gen 3 Multi Platform Jig - https://www.80percentarms.com/products/easy-jig-gen-3-multi-platform-ar-15-ar-9-and-308-80-lower-jig/ . Again, NEVER a problem. NO problems whatsoever. I've also built several AR15's as well. All I've ever used is 80% Arms lowers - NEVER had any problems with any of then, either. They also have many other goodies, too. Great customer service, too! For this build, I used a BCA 20" SS straight fluted, rifle length gas upper - https://www.bearcreekarsenal.com/calibers/308-winchester/308-complete-uppers/308-20-ss-mid-weight-barrel-1-10-twist-rifle-15-handguard-rc-sp-nrail-spiral-flash.html. Flash hider might vary, depending on stock supply. Hope this is of some help. Patrad. PS: Yes, I know the scope is at an angle - it's only there for the pic.๐
