I recently ordered a 20” Shaw 204 Ruger barrel to try on an ar15. It was over gassed with can, so I got an adjustable gas block. Heavy buffer and spring weren’t enough. With metal mags it cycles great and is incredibly accurate with minimal recoil. I am very impressed with it and very happy that it works so good. I went midnight thermal hunting a couple nights ago and got a coyote at 175 and a skunk at 120. I have large frame 308’s and 22-250, small frame 556, 17hmr and now a 204. My son gave me a Geissele ssa-e x trigger for Christmas. It’s in the 204 and with minimal recoil it is fun to be able to see the impact have have the accuracy like that. Ammo is available locally too.

I got a great deal on a 20” ss heavy barrel 17 hmr upper awhile back and it shoots great and very accurate. It’s a blowback type and after I got it, I was reading stuff about out of battery discharge possibilities with a blowback system with 17 hmr. Now I am a bit nervous about it. Thoughts? I have had several semi auto 22s forever and never had a problem . A 17hmr is a bit more potent than a 22lr

Figured out today that the vortex crossfire was not holding zero. I put an old bushnell off my 10/22 on and it’s shooting great again. I should not have needed a follow up shot if the scope hadn’t messed up. I have not dropped the gun or handled rough.

I thought about moving my thermal from the ar10 to the ar22 but I like to have the 308 ready to go for coyotes that are common here. I have a thermal monocular too, that I spot with and just use a light and a glass scope on the 22 for around the yard and small varmints. Last week it was a skunk inside the barn. Last night was an opossum by the chicken pen. The weather was just right to not dissipate the cloud very quick for a follow up shot since I only crippled it with the first one. After dark tonight I tried some cci and Aquila and there isn’t a noticeable difference. There is a breeze tonight and last night was slightly foggy and zero wind.

Last night I had to shoot at a varmint in the back yard. I had it loaded with Aguila super HP 22LR. It was very dark with no moon. I flipped on the flashlight and took a shot at 35-40 yds. The smoke cloud looked like a black powder gun in the light through the scope. I couldn’t get a follow up shot because I couldn’t see for a few seconds. I hadn’t noticed that before with the cci mini mag. I will get some more and test it.

That looks like fun! What ammo do you like? I had some duds with the cci clean red tips, but the cci mini mags and the segmented hp have been working with no problems.

I do a lot of night hunting around the farm. The other night I was out with my thermal monocular and saw a weird ball in the tree in my yard. It was a huge swarm of bees. It looked like a lantern hanging in the tree with the thermal. Picture the next morning. It’s about the size of a gallon jug.

Mine was $550 at the LGS. I don’t know what they were before. I don’t have any rimfire suppressors but I put my 7.62 can on it for a few shots and it was awesome! I need to get a rimfire can. After shooting the tippmann quite a bit more, I am very happy. I tried a vortex venom lpvo 1-6x24 and hated it. The fixed parallax 100 yds didn’t work for me. I put a crossfire 6-18x44 ao on it and put the LPVO on my 308. The AO and 18 is much better for me on a 22. It’s a sub moa gun and I like it a lot

I borrowed the scope from my 10/22 just to see what it does. And to my surprise it is very accurate at 50 yds. Over 200 rds of cci mini mags and not a malfunction. Who would have thought that a $450 5lb rifle would be so much fun. The trigger could be upgraded, but otherwise I am very impressed.

I was at the lgs last week and picked up a Tippmann M4-22 pro. I really enjoy shooting it. I should have got one long ago. It’s identical in look and function to an AR15. And milspec trigger, handguard,stock etc. Quality fit and finish, metal receivers, 16” fluted barrel and only weighs 4.7 lbs. I don’t have an optic for it yet but it’s pretty accurate with iron sights and cycles great. Inexpensive to purchase and to shoot!

What is this persimmon prediction from this year’s crop?

We have a few farm animals on our 80 acres. My hands are too old to hand milk so I got a battery pack to make my milking machine portable. I leave the jersey out in the pasture with her baby and the angus cows. So, I go out with the side by side and milk her wherever I find her. She gets a bucket of her favorite food after so she cooperates

I don’t have a problem with my rugged Razor can on my psa 308 at all(sub moa), but when I put it on my psa556 with 18” BA barrel it sprays rds like a shotgun. And my 22-250 is not very good either. The can shoots great on my Ruger precision 17hmr also. But I wasted a shitload of ammo trying to use it on the 556. I gave up and put a flash hider back on and earplugs and started over. Frontier 68gr bthp match are best and Hornady black 75 are pretty close 2nd place. 50 yards testing. I put my thermal scope back on the 308 for now and the can. When I tried to put the thermal and can on the 556 I missed 2 coyotes shooting of a tripod that should have been easy. That’s when I figured out that I had a problem. I thought the gun was a pos or something was loose. I doubt that I will ever try to get a can for the 556 or 22-250. But I find it interesting that I had such bad luck using my only can on several guns.

I booked a hog hunt with a local outfitter. I took my 308 that you guys have helped me with. This was going to be a night hunt and I had a pocket full of batteries for the thermal. It Started out at 3:30 in the afternoon. A damn red wasp kept flying in and out of the blind. Luckily he didn’t land on me. Lol. At 5:00 a thunderstorm came through and it rained pretty good and really windy for awhile. The blind I was in kept me almost dry. I had my rain gear with me. I had seen 2 deer, a turkey and a rabbit so far. At 6:30 a group of sows showed up at about 75 yds. Boom! I had booked this hunt before my mom got really bad last week and I have been at the hospital with her. I almost canceled but I have been so stressed out I decided to go ahead. There is nothing like sitting out with nature and having some quality alone time just for me. My mom will be happy to see the picture.

My 22-250 did similar with the can. Although not nearly as bad as the 223 It’s a rugged razor 7.62 and on my 308 is not a problem at all. It’s sub moa even at 200 yds. I probably won’t bother trying to get a suppressor for the 22-250 or the ar15. When I first shot it today with the new ammo, I was thinking WTF! I thought barrel was loose or something. Then I took off the can and it came together.

Funny thing is that my 17 hmr almost same hole with that suppressor on it

all three new ammo were similar The Hornady black with the 7.62 suppressor best group The same ammo without suppressor. It knocked off the red sticky dot my 308 loves the suppressor but the ar15 not so much. I didn’t have any 55 grain ammo with me to try without suppressor. I guess I won’t be using the suppressor on the ar15

The LGS installed it for me, so I don’t know. At same time he put in the plastic wedge to stop any slop between upper and lower. It didn’t wiggle much there before that. I will try the different ammo before I do anything else

I had already made an order from sgammo before you posted that, and I got 3 boxes of black coming with a couple others. I am looking forward to trying these. The gun doesn’t have a great trigger, but I have the same one in my aero m5 lower and can shoot sub moa easily with it in my large frame guns 4.5lb Ruger trigger.

I will try to find some ammo heavier, and try that thanks for your input

What are some things that I can check to help tighten up groups? I have a psa 556 that is not very accurate. It had a 16” barrel and I changed to a 18” BA barrel and it really didn’t help. Both 1:7 What type ammo should be accurate in it? 62 grain green tips are about 3 moa. 55 superx soft points are over 1.5 moa. I put the thermal back on my 308 and it’s sub moa at 100. Put a glass scope on the ar15 and still no difference. The gun cycles perfectly and it would be nice if I could use it for coyotes. I have an ar22-250 and a 308 that are both very accurate, but they are heavy AF

It didn’t help much. I can 7 now.

I modified the follower in a Pmag 10 round magazine to let it tilt under the cartridges. To help keep more tension on the fronts since they are tapered so much. Cycling by hand it works great. I will shoot it when it quits raining. I also got the suppressor mounted and need to check poi I was only able to put 5 rounds in before because there was no support for the front of the cartridges.
