pokey
Does anybody have any experience with blackhole weaponry polygonal barrels? How do polygonal rifled rifle barrels compare to standard rifling? I know that some pistols have poly rifling, and it seems to do good. Is it easier to clean, more accurate,or last longer? Thanks Pokey.
Robocop1051
Is it easier to clean, more accurate,or last longer? Yes. The lack of lands and grooves helps in this. Only problem is you shouldn't shoot lead cast proj's. Not so much a problem with rifles in comparison to pistols. No. There's a reason why ALL competitive shooters use stainless. Same for snipers or anyone else that demands absolute accuracy. Don't let that detract from poly barrels though. They can be pretty damned accurate. Poly barrels are known to increase bullet velocity. meh... In theory. You're talking about a number that totals in the thousands. Quality ammo prolongs your barrel as much as barrel quality. If you're just going to shoot shitty ammo, why waste money on an expensive barrel? If you're going to buy a quality barrel, do you really want to shoot crap through it? StainTrain
If you're just going to shoot shitty ammo, why waste money on an expensive barrel? If you're going to buy a quality barrel, do you really want to shoot cap through it? This should be the warning label on shittty boxes of ammo as well as stamped on barrels sold worldwide. Robocop1051
Honestly. If the majority of the ammo you shoot is steel cased, corrosive, 3rd world mil surplus... don't waste more than $150 on a generic CMV barrel. I built my 7.62x39 with a cheap barrel specific for this use. Burn it up and throw it away when I'm done. I have my stainless steel, carbon fiber wrapped, barrel on my .308... besides a little NATO surplus, and a handful of Bubba's handloads, it has only had a healthy diet of Hornady match and FGMM. I have a metric shit-ton of some red block communist, 7.62x51, steel cased, brown lacquered, garbage ammo (that I way over paid for, to a widow trying to make ends meet). I have a new rifle on the way, just for this ammo, because I'll never put it in my CF wrapped barrel.
