Moderate PA-10 build,Looking for opinions/Suggestions/Knowledge

Hi All,

So I took the plunge a few months ago and ordered a PSA PA-10.My first AR platform rifle..

I ordered a complete 16" carbine upper and complete Classic lower with intentions of just going out and target shooting. The more I've been researching the more I liked the nearly endless options for customizing the AR platform,Also found that PA-10s weren't as friendly with aftermarket parts if you will... .That being said Im not trying to rebuild the rifle(Hence why I ordered a complete upper n lower lol) But I scored a Magpul Hand guard and Foregrip and Center Point red/Green dot scope at a local gun show this weekend($50 for all of it brand new..Probably will buy a better scope later on.).I have a few other small things I want to do and am just looking for opinions/Suggestions etc..

1.)I need a riser or carry handle w/rail to lift the scope above the front sight..Or has anyone zeroed the scope in with the front sight?Which route would you go? Why?

2.) I like the look of the Magpul MOE fixed rifle stock...Pros/cons of your experience with fixed stocks?

3.) Bayonet lug mounted Bipod or the barrel clamp style?

4.)Seen that with a slight modification Geissele triggers will work, worth the money?

Thanks in advance....Also due to the tons of negativity surrounding these PA10s I'd like to say i have zero regrets purchasing it..My PA-10 functions flawlessly,No slop between upper and lower,No jams,She will reliably fire weather I'm single firing or Burning through rounds....Had an issue with it going into full battery..But I swapped the extractor spring with an AR15 spring and it solved my issue..

Giessele trigger at Botach. I picked up 2 of them for 125.00 each on the make an offer. It has the same trigger pull weight as the SSA which I have also and I cannot tell the difference. For the money I believe that is a good trigger but there are other triggers out there, that I am sure would serve your purpose. I would think a trigger upgrade should be at the top of your list. IMO

Thanks for the info,Had never heard of Botach before..As far as the list it's really in no particular order.Just things I'd like to get at some point..With 3 kids and a wife it's mostly whatever decent deal comes up at the right time lol..

With two boys still in College, I hear you on the deals. Botach.com has the G2s for $147.84. Last time I checked you could make up to three offers. I started my first offer at a 100.00. It never hurts to ask. Hopefully you will get some responses for less money and perhaps a better trigger selection. I saw several trigger manufactures at this years SHOT. Another possibility you may check out is the RRA two stage for around $100.00.

In regards to scope, there are more experienced on this site than I but I will give you my 2 cents. There is no need to put on a carrying handle, unless you want one. I just installed a scope with a 3/4" riser and it works fine with the front sight  still attached. If you go with a longer free float tube you could remove your front site and install a flip up sight with the gas block on the inside or outside of the tube.Spend a much as you can afford on glass. I took a chance and just bought a Primary Arms rifle scope. it is 4x14-44 mil dot reticle FFP scope It has 35 mil adjustment for elevation and windage. The glass is pretty clear. I saw a review on it on you tubes $1000.00, 1000yd rifle. For the money I figured it would worth a try, Check out cameraland, and euro  optics. Read up all you can and ask a lot of questions before buying.

OP, stay away from that trigger ^^^.  You can spend a little more elsewhere, and you'll be far happier in the long run - especially if the RRA 2-stage that you get fails.  FWIW.

Help others out. What other triggers would be good to stay away from? IYO

Google the RRA 2-Stage trigger, and you'll easily see why I suggested against it.

There are no other triggers out there with that reputation.  Well, unless you buy some bull$hit from Vulcan/Hesse/Blackthorne/Velocity Arms.  The Machineguns Of The Special Forces...

There are actually several threads here, as well as on many other forums, that are full of problems people had with that trigger specifically, on dozens of different platforms.

Thanks for your input,I originally wanted a longer hand guard but I found this one and got it pretty cheap so I kinda settled lol but it's comfortable so I'm pretty satisfied.I just picked up the cheap scope cause well it was cheap lol but also Most of my shooting will be done at 100yrds or less(convenience of Shooting in my backyard) so I figured it'd do the job until I could get a better one.I was curious if the risers would get the scope up high enough to clear the front sight or not,That's why I am looking at the carry handle option as well..Thanks again

From what I've found by simple google searches and browsing through forums and YouTube videos The Geissele Triggers are pretty good,Haven't found anything negative about them. And I seen that Geissele and PSA had worked together to find a fix for the issue with the bolt hanging up on the hammer,so if I was going to To upgrade that's where I was leaning.Just didn't know if a Trigger was worth $200+(They cost more than my complete lower lol) or if there was something a little more affordable but still reliable...I know "You get what you pay for" lol

Get the scope as low as possible to the barrel bore centerline, and don't worry about the front sight post - if that's your concern.  At 2 or 3x magnification, you won't even see the front sight post anyway - the scope is already focused way beyond that thing.  Won't appear in your vision, at all.

There is a group buy for a single stage Modular Trigger from "MechArmor Defense Systems here in the , I think Coupon section . A very good trigger & can be had for around  $115 to your door .

If you are going to a Rifle stock , you will have to get a Rifle Receiver Extension ( Buffer Tube ), the AR 15 rifle Receiver Extension will work ,  a DPMS type ,308 specific Rifle Buffer & 308 rifle Spring , since you are set up for Carbine stock now . I just installed the Magpul MOE rifle stock on a Build .

The AR 15 Extractor spring is too weak for the 308 & may work for a while , but will probable cause problems with an increase in round count through the rife .

Looks like you have a Red/Green dot sight on there , not really a scope , it may co witness with the Iron sights , as said , you will not see the front sight with magnification . Red dot type sights are nice for the range you plan on shooting . If you go farther out , Magnification is really helpful . I you get a rear flip up /folding sight for your Upper Receiver Rail , it should co witness through the Red dot sight , nice if the Batt. go south if in the field .

Yea I guess technically it is just a sight lol,But I plan on just staying inside the 100yrd range with this gun,I have an old 1968 Voere 30-06 bolt gun for longer range shooting. My 308 extractor spring is no where near the size of that one its exact same size as the AR15 spring I put in,And is also just a single spring w/Rubber O ring..It is extremely hard. When I released the BCG to chamber a round it wouldn't slip over the rear of the cartridge.Itd just push straight into the back of the cartridge and not go into full battery.I took the O ring off and it didn't didn't help.Swapped to the AR15 spring and it chambers great,No jams, stove piping or anything.Figure I'll at least get 500rds out of it,and at $1 I don't mind replacing it periodically lol...Thanks on the info about the rifle stock,Didn't realize I have to change all of that to use it(glad you told me so I know what to get).Is it pretty comfortable as far as length wise?
