survivalshop
I use clamp on Gas Blocks , but thats a personal choice . Some only use the set screw type & are happy with them . Your choice . Edited September 8, 2015 by survivalshop
Lincoln7
I highly recommend the set screw version as a more reliable mounting option when done correctly. IE: Install block and tighten set screws, remove one set screw, drill a dimple into barrel, install set screw with thread locker, remove other set screw and repeat. Ensure your gas port is lined up with the gas block's port before drilling. There is normally a gap between the block and the barrel shoulder (space for a handguard cap if used). EngrBob
I am really happy with my JP adjustable and it was quite a bit less expensive than the Syrac.

I have a JP Gen ll on one of my rifles but kinda recall those being pretty comparable in price with the Syrac's and SLR's of the world. I got it from Primary Arms on sale for about $10 less. I believe that even at MSRP it is $30 or $40 less than the Syrac/
survivalshop
I highly recommend the set screw version as a more reliable mounting option when done correctly. Ensure your gas port is lined up with the gas block's port before drilling. There is normally a gap between the block and the barrel shoulder (space for a handguard cap if used). Why is is more reliable ? Because you have a two set screws , set in a little depression in the Barrel . If you look at any clamp on type , you will notice the Gas Block contacts about 99% of the circumference of the Barrel , not so with the set screw type , there's a gap at the bottom portion of the Gas Block . When a clamp on is tightened correctly , its not moving . The best for a secure mounting is the std A 2 sight with tapered pins or the Geisselle Gas block with its spiral pin , which are not available with the Adj. blocks you are interested in . Also , depending on who makes the Barrel , that there is a provision for a hand guard cap gap . You have to check the Gas port location in relation to the Gas Blocks stop shoulder on the Manufacturers Barrel , do not take it for granted , that there is .
