Schwansonite
I'm wanting to buy a magpul ACS stock. I have a 308 AP4 with a 6 position collapsable stock and I'm confused on whether I need to buy the commercial or mil spec diameter? I'm preety sure my research points to the commercial but I don't really know. Any ideas? and I dont see any reason why I cant use the old buffer, buffer tube, and recoil spring?http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=912037
Turbotezza
All you need to do is to determine if your current buffer tube is commercial or mil spec and then buy the correct ACS to fit. You can use the same spring and buffer in either type of buffer tubes.
6132expert
Get you a slideing caliper and measure the tube diameter. That will tell you what you need to know, also some commercial tubes have a slant on the end to where mil-spc is always flat. Also a true mil-spec tube is is machined from a solid pease of stock and commercial is not made IMO very well. They are all extruded ,the milspec ,because of its dia. is a rolled thread & the commercial threads are cut with a die . This is aways a hot debate subject & I finally got a manufacturer to explain the difference on another forum .Unless you have one custom made with 7075 alum. , they are all the same . I have both & can't tell the difference.
