survivalshop Posted January 12, 2017 Report Posted January 12, 2017 (edited) I got a couple of Ships hats for Christmas , one my daughter ordered for me is not here yet ( USS Guadalcanal LPH 7 , last ship I served on ) The USS Macdonough DLG 8 was a gift from my Brother who is no longer with us. I guess I'l have to order the first ship I was stationed on , the USS TideWater AD 31 , to make my set complete. For you history buff's , at the time I was on her ,The USS Strong DD 758 was the last ship still commissioned in the US Navy to see combat in WW II . Edited January 12, 2017 by survivalshop
AnOldBiker Posted January 12, 2017 Report Posted January 12, 2017 Hope you have something of her for your family history. Still have stuff from my fathers ship time in WW2. Plus my time in Nam. The grandkids have it now. I was surprised they cherish them. Thanks for your service brother.
Tony b Posted January 12, 2017 Report Posted January 12, 2017 That's cool ss, I wish I had hats for the ships I served on. What a thoughtful gift.
planeflyer21 Posted January 12, 2017 Report Posted January 12, 2017 SS, that memorabilia is cool! What would be even cooler, sit down with your daughter and make a video of your recollections being in the Navy. Far too much of that history is lost to those out of the service.

I think she has heard enough through out the years . A lot of stuff I did in the service is not repeatable to her, even though she is in her thirties , I don't even tell the wife the poop I did or was into . I just don't talk about it , to anyone . I would have never purchased these hats myself , but now my family has got these , I'm forced to get the last one .
EngrBob Posted January 12, 2017 Report Posted January 12, 2017 Thank you for your service. That can't be said enough to the folks who have kept this nation intact and free over the years.
